Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I know that this will be discussed at length during the weekly list of Demon's podcast, but I thought, would love to see a thread of what people thought was their main highlights from the game.

I might be going over it a bit too much - and maybe should move on - but gee got to celebrate the great wins!  Watched the replay yesterday, even better on second watch.

Anyway my top 3 highlights from the game:

1. The Trent Rivers spoil to stop a certain mark to Riewoldt.  Just the look on the face of Riewoldt, it was an act that I think captures perfectly the changing nature of this side.  It was almost as if Richmond just kept expecting us to fold, and in that moment Riewoldt expected it to come to him - think again.  This moment, plus the notable involvements of Dogga and Kozzy, excited me because it showed an "unburdened" young brigade coming through who know winning and don't have any baggage.

2. The Kozzy Pickett no backward steps - let's be honest, like the hawks last week, Richmond tried to bully the Dees.  We have always had a perception of being mentally weak (- for example when Port got after Max a couple years back).  I certainly have never seen us be the aggressor.  Nice to have an element of bully in our team as well.  Kozzy scares defences more and more each week, just opening up more space for Tommy Mc....

3. Charlie Spargo's tackle on Houli.  I could watch this over and over again.  He's quickly becoming a fan favourite.  Love it!

No. 1 with bells on. This from Trent Rivers killed off that Richmond thrust and was the first act in the sequence that led to Neal Bullen's goal. Amazing intercept !!

It will remind 'older ' dees fans of a horizontal dive on the goal line  by Sean Wight in a final in '87 to prevent what would have been a certain goal in that match.

When we start to get the ascendancy I watched on in awe at

the Dees desperation in the 2nd quarter. 5 minutes to go- tackle by Jordon then Spargo followed by Jackson then win the ball up and go forward.

Also loved the smiles all round after a huddle before starting the third quarter. The Tigers are renowned for their fighting spirit but the players weren't concerned. Out there to enjoy Jones 300.

With only the club website to go on (long story!...) my vote is for the chain to that 9th goal, starting with Rivers's spoil (missed it on my first few viewings(!) until seeing Goodwin's presser then the OP), then Hunt's length-of the-ground repeat involvement (with Riewoldt(*) in fruitless pursuit, LOL), and the cameo handballs along the way. Spoilt only by Neal-Bullen not being allowed to complete his run into goal or dish off the handball to Jackson for his third run-in goal of the night.

(*Lowlight of the night: Riewoldt, presumably running the length of the ground to do so, pathetically shoving Pickett after the tail end of the last-goal rumble)

Classic sore loser stuff...

Mine was from watching Tmac warm up with real intensity and focus to then bring that into the game. He has had a tendency to be quite lackadaisical at times but this was the most switched on I have ever seen him. Hunted every contest with intent and purpose. The other two talls breathing down his neck for his position is creating some 2018 style Tmac performances.

Secondly Spargo setting the tone early with his tackling efforts especially the one on the boundary in their forwardline.

Thirdly Gus' post match interview where he mentions 'when the rain starting coming down we were licking our lips'. Long has Richmond been the wet weather specialists but this Melbourne team with its elite contested football ability now loves to get stuck in and help each other out while pressuring the ball when not in possession. Love it.

A replay highlight is T Mac’s explanation to the ump as to why he slapped Grimes in the face off the ball.
“ Was just trying to get past him.” Then they showed the vision which made me chuckle. Good one Tom.

Couldn't agree more with all 3, especially Spargo's tackle. Was out of my seat in a flash.

No.2 was also massive in context. I honestly didn't care at the time what happened, who's free kick it was or what anyone said to hurt the others feelings but I just felt this burst of pride wash all over me in that moment. I said in the post game thread that we were here and we weren't going to be pushed over or intimidated.

Yeah I loved the umpire saying to Tom: "You hit him in the head" and Tom goes: "Yeah I know" ?

That is exactly how I felt - just proud, been so sick to death of the "meek" Melbourne - pretty winners mentality and culture that seems to have been around this club for so long.  Now when one of those cheap Richmond hacks put on a shot, there were players streaming in to settle the score.  And with Kozzy we finally have an aggressor and not in the Jack Viney way - we can hold our backs up straight and let's bully some teams.

1. Spargo's tackle

2. Everything Salem did

3. Rivers composure

4. Luke Jackson's agility

5. Hunt & ANB getting the best out of themselves

6. The ruthless and unselfish display from all players

7. The shear joy on the faces of all the demon supporters at the ground

Enjoy the ride all.  Enjoy...........

I think the Spargoat tackle on Houli was what changed the momentum in the first q and is my favourite moment of the game because of that.

The bit they didn't mention was; Riewoldt also said Viney ran over to him and said "That's not your job". Would love to know the tone and language actually used, LOL

I loved the bit in the last quarter when our supporters did that slow MELBOURNE .... MELBOURNE .... MELBOURNE chant.
The sound of glory.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
