Teams make errors dropping those low posession guys for scoring impact players.

The low posession guys make the team score more sometimes.

Anyway-PHOTOS.

On reflection, the right call.

Melk adds some real silk. Close to our best kick, off both feet.

And the opposition will have to man him to make sure he doesn't get off tbe chain.

I won't be surprised if he gets some midfield minutes either. If he can get the ball goal side of centre bounces then his kicks inside 50 are a weapon.

If it's the Melky of 2018 I agree with you, if it's the Melky of the last 2 years id rather get games into younger players. The no chasing and tackling down hill sking we saw of Melky the last 2 years sets a bad example. I hope the group is beyond this now

Given his ( lack ) of form last year I would have expected him to have to  smash the door down to get selected not merely knock on it.

Melksham at his best is pure quality, 2020 was poor from him but so it was for others who have been good over the first few rounds. Here's his chance at redemption.

Sparrow will be back.

When he got dropped early in 2018 after the failed switch to play as a half back, he came back into the side as a negating half forward - his first job was stopping JJ’s run off half back in the game in which Lever did his knee

He was outstanding at the role as he was able to complement his defensive intensity with forward craft - his use of the ball is a weapon both passing and kicking at goal, particularly on the run

I’m backing him in to play a role for us going forward

No idea but the entire selection committee has agreed so he’s in. I’m behind him and hope he dominates and if he doesn’t I won’t jump all over him and Goody as it’s only 1 game, he’ll need a couple of weeks. Come on Melky!!

i agree.  we just have to support him.

Does anyone have access to stats on

- pressure acts

- one percenters

- shepherds

- chases

If so, how does Melksham fit in with these?

And another stat - mates with coach 10/10?

Goody and the coaches have been pretty spot on with the team selection so far so I’m happy to take their judgment on this one.

Apparently Melbourne is the no.1 defensive side in the comp without the ball according to champion data, so we must be doing something right, and I can’t seeing Melky stuffing that up.

No problems with the selection. I would have gone differently and I may have has Jetta in the firing line. The selectors, I will give the benefit of the doubt to as I am sure they know a bit more than me.

With the way the results have gone this is a big game for us. A win will give us a two game break over a few of the fancied teams including WC, Tiges and cats.

The difference between Sparrow and Melksham as our 22nd player shouldn’t be the difference between winning and losing.

I guess the selectors needed to make a change at some point to keep the Casey depth focussed and driven. Thought sparrow was stiff though, I love what he brings.

I just hope the guys one and all show up and beat the living suitcase out of those handbaggers.

If our worst problem remains whether to play Melksham or Sparrow I’m a happy man. I would of given him a week at Casey but I’m a furniture maker not a selector.

Didn't know you had carpentry skills your Majesty, sorry for your recent loss, my sincere condolences. Kind regards,  AC/DeeC. P.S. Go Dees and smash the Cats!

I thought Sparrow was going well, how does Melksham justify selection.Must have some ripper pics of Goodwin

Melksham was very poor last year. However there has been a preseason and practice games in the meantime that we know little about. I read from a practice match a few weeks ago he applied himself well. He has enough good games under his belt to justify selection. But he should on notice. Work your [censored] off or you are out

Sparrow despite his pressure acts, simply did not involve himself in the game enough. Can’t have a bloke out there just chasing and not touching it

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
