Strange that a 2 second rev up to a couple of the boys was enough to get us the win but the Saints couldn't use the emotion of Spud's game to come out firing.

Sometimes the build up gets to you.

Think the Jim Stynes round 1 against Brisbane 2012

It's all a bit of good natured humour...don't take it too seriously crew.

Not sure if anyone else here watches their (hilarious) podcast but it was definitely a light hearted joke.

No thanks - I’d just about erased that shower of merde.

where our captain spends 30 minutes ragging on the media guy? far from hilarious

Gary cops a lot of crap from people but you can't deny his passion for the Dees. He is Melbourne through and through.

Or when we upset the Tigers dedication to Tommy Hafey after he passed away.

I know this is off-topic but I was hoping someone could help me with this.

Fox footy refer to Garry Lyon as a 5 time all-aus. However, looking at the All-Aus teams he seems to be mentioned only in 3 (93-95).

Even in this front bar episode below at the 1:40 mark, Garry says he was 5 time All-Aus, but you can see Andy Maher hold up three fingers and look embarrassed.

Could someone please explain?

There was no official All Aust. teams in 1989 1nd 1990.

Carnival AA teams ended in 1988,  and with foundation of the AFL from the VFL and state systems, resumed in 1991.

Just imagine if Gazza didn't [censored] his back, The Ox didn't do his knee and A Jakovich didn't all apart.

I bet we would have won a couple of flags in the mid to late 90's.

Yeah I don't think the build up is what lost us that game. We were just an awful team.

We sure were...nothing was going to inspire that team to a win.

...but your comment inspired an ironic laugh.

In a parallel universe where we weren't smashed by injuries to our elite talent this was our 1996-2000 forward line

HF      Lyon          Schwarz      Charles

F       Farmer       Jakovich     Robertson

With 1995 All Australian backman David Neitz holding the fort in the backline as the best CHB in the game.

Sure its unlikely we would have drafted Robertson with a forward line that good and he and Jako probably would have strangled each other....

@ox_5 has answered your initial question. Now for the 'elephant in the room'...I'm not sure if that blouse Gary is wearing belongs to his first wife or to Billy's.

Correct but there was still a team of the year?? chosen for those two years and is listed within the AFL media guide and website and are counted as making the AA team.

G Lyon made The Big V side in 1989 and 1990 so i call that all Australian years.

I hear you, but the Team of the Year concept is in no way an AA team when 18 of the players are Victorians and are playing in Victoria comp, sprinkled with several interstate recruits like kernahan. By that logic there are no other players in the Wafl Sanfl Tfl etc worthy of a guernsey which would most likely be implausible.

So its a VFL Team of the Year. Still a great honour though.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.

  • CASEY: Collingwood

It was freezing cold at Mission Whitten Stadium where only the brave came out in the rain to watch a game that turned out to be as miserable as the weather.
The Casey Demons secured their third consecutive victory, earning the four premiership points and credit for defeating a highly regarded Collingwood side, but achieved little else. Apart perhaps from setting the scene for Monday’s big game at the MCG and the Ice Challenge that precedes it.
Neither team showcased significant skill in the bleak and greasy conditions, at a location that was far from either’s home territory. Even the field umpires forgot where they were and experienced a challenging evening, but no further comment is necessary.
