They can’t let their little darling off a week after changing the concussion rules to protect players because they’re concerned about player welfare.

Remember that May got a week for a bump and he wasn’t even moving. He has to get scrubbed.

Should have received weeks after the grand final for raising his forearm on Vlastuin.

They might give him a week  but Cats will appeal to try and have it overtuned.

As an aside, Danger (and family) have many influential mates in the media.

The rules were changed for exactly this type of scenario. No malice by danger but he knocked the guy out cold. That's as severe as it gets therefore has be 3 weeks

When deciding to bump, you have to keep all parts of the body away from the opponents head.

He rammed his head into the blokes nose and broke it, as well as causing concussion.

Why are they saying it wasn't intentional or with malice? It was a "Brixton kiss".

Geelong are a ruthless team. They hate being beaten, will try anything to unsettle the other side.

No sympathy should be shown. Intentional and went in to hurt Kelly.

I can’t see how the MRP can do anything but make a statement early in the season. If they do, and he gets at least three, he will have been backed over by the karma bus after the three card trick that  he and the crows pulled to get Jack Trengove suspended for three. And he played the next week! Sorry, my personal dislike for the man showing.

Danger should get 4, but will get 3.

I actually want him to play against us though, one of my favorite moments in football was seeing Dangerflog trudge off the MCG with his head down after the 2018 Elimination final.  I can't stand the [censored].

Agree with much that's been said. Elected to bump (and bumped late), broke Kelly's nose and concussed him. That's 3 to 4 weeks (4 if making a statement).

It iritates me listening to Chris Scott trying to jawbone the tribunal... Dangerfield "did everything he could to protect Kelly"

Complete rubbish! He didn't slow at all dropped the shoulder angling his body towards Kelly and bumped him late - and was clear the hit would be late so could have slowed or pulled out

Its time the AFL made an example of a 'name' player like Danger and not just the ANB's of the world.

In both cases the concussion occurred when the player's head hit the ground, after the infringement.  In both cases the optics were very bad.  In both cases the infringement was sent directly to the Tribunal.  ANB got 4 weeks.  Appeal rejected.

Commentators said at the time that if ANB was  'name' player he wouldn't get the same treatment.

Concussion is taken far more seriously now than as it should be.  Time for the AFL to set down the law.

wasn't anb given 3 weeks and because they protested it got bumped up to 4?

i can definitely see danger getting this downgraded to 1

nah .... he'll get off, and be given an award or a 'get out of gaol' card he can use later in the season.

luci, i think the head got hit twice. firstly by dangermouse's head the when hitting the turf. additionally he looked like he was unconscious before he hit the turf

All the more reason Danger should have the book thrown at him.  ANB got 4 weeks in a 17 week season.

Sorry Kev he DID NOT LEAD the tackle   with his head. That was the accidental part so no malice was intended.

Your comment re Brixton is entirely erroneous as many AFL  tackles and completely accidental collisions end up with head clashes with / without Blood/ etc or concussion.

As he Decided  to bump Like Williams of Carlton did and some damage  occurred then he has to defend the reason why he bumped as aggressively as he did ( That's Danger  always at top pace)

The differences in my opinion with Willisms  is that he DID NOT NEED  to bump was late and with less Damage occurring but we want to cut that out of our  game.

With  the Danger bump it's legal in the play but if he scores any head damage he has to accept the consequences but no malice intended!

And for that he may get 2/3 weeks but unlike Williams who did bump IMO with intent (malice) late and more "dangerously".

"MELBOURNE forward Alex Neal-Bullen has been rubbed out for four games, with the AFL Tribunal coming down hard on a sling tackle that concussed Adelaide youngster Will Hamill on Wednesday night.

Neal-Bullen pinned one of Hamill's arms while slinging him into the turf, with the first-year Crows player groggily coming from the field where he was unable to return to the game after suffering a concussion.

The incident was referred directly to the AFL Tribunal by the Match Review Officer, who deemed the impact of the tackle as 'severe' in a grading that normally determines a minimum penalty of a three-match ban."

So "severe" is a 3 week minimum.  ANB only pinned one arm and the player got up and walked off. Ask Kelly if he would have preferred the ANB tackle and result, to the one he suffered and we know the answer. As Lucifer's Hero said above ANB got 4 weeks in a 17 game season which equates to 5 games this year.

Dangerfield is an esteemed member of the AFL boys club. Can see him getting off the entire charge.

Even my cynical brain can't see him getting off entirely, but I'm prepared to bet he will get less than might be expected for many other players.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
