He will dominate sooner than most think. At least he can take a mark, more than most of our forwards have done for the past 10 years. Think he was just having an off day on his kicking. Sure he was kicking it better last year.

Such a fine line between Future Superstar & Dud. He got a few touches in the first 3 quarters. Then had a great breakout leading & marking final quarter but couldn’t finish his outstanding work. Had he kicked 3-4 like he should have we would all be having a different conversation. 
I reckon he will tear the competition apart sooner rather than later.

I get what you're saying. But my 'but' is that maybe he's got the potential to be a player who necessitates a rethink of traditional roles to fit: ruck/midfielder plus marking forward. A good ruck, but maybe not the dominant one in the competition; but a gun at ground level, getting the ball out; then a leading, marking forward who kicks goals. I'm thinking Nic Nat/Bud/Cripper. Yeah I'll take some flak for that, but I reckon there's something in it.... heft (eventually), spring, height, speed, agility....

Yes kicking was wayward but he had a real breakdown poor guy.
 

He is a future star and 99% of Dees fans can see that.

Agree with first sentence. Still has a young immature physique that will get knocked around in the contest. Needs to protect himself. And not be overused. Shoulders and knees the main area of concern.

The main thing I'm unsure of with Jackson is what's the best way to develop him. 

I reckon if he played CHB he'd pick up the drop of the ball easier by following a forward and would start to hold marks more consistently. I don't think he's a natural enough reader of the flight to become Harris Andrews or Aliir Aliir overnight but he'd be a menace to opposition forwards in that role.

If he played key forward at Casey he'd start kicking goals pretty quickly too I think. He'd get chances on the lead and he'd only have to jump anywhere near the ball to be clear of his opponents to mark or draw free kicks. 

Same goes if he rucked against VFL level opponents. He'd jump all over those guys and get a lot of the ball at ground level.

He looks physically and mentally up for the fight at AFL level so I'm not suggesting he does drop down a level but if he gets tired or really doesn't get his hands on the ball it's worth considering. Development isn't linear and the chance to go down a level, get the ball in your hands to work on using it and build some confidence isn't a bad thing.

We need to kick it where he can run and jump across a pack more than sit it high like we do for Gawn.

With his agility on the move, he'd make a good marking exponent in the heavy stuff by coming in from the side - either side - a re-incarnation of Royce the Hart. He lands just as well as Royce did; or, he may be able to run on for alternative disposal outcomes.

 

I would get him to focus on aspects of his game that need developing.  Ability to roll out of a contest and hit up a forward or to his advantage from outside 50.  Lead patterns.  Marking on a lead.  And obviously his kicking technique, albeit very early days here and might be fine with yesterday a bit of a blip.

Another 3 to 5 games, as per yesterday then assess.  Slight steady progression with a few hic ups to be expected....leave it alone steady as she goes.

Flat lining or regressing somewhat?  Give him a stint in the McGoos to work on these same aspects but under less pressure / more time & space to help him hone, fine tune and get the belief / confidence going.

Looks the goods for mine with a few more pre-seasons behind him.  Hoping the FD doesn't get ahead of itself leaving him in just through sheer stubborness potentially destroying his confidence early by refusing to do the latter through the McGoos for stints if needed.  One Mr Watts comes to mind here.

Very early for ‘Post of the Year’ but I think we may have found the winner!

 

Jackson is very mobile as a ruckman and key forward. His mobility gives both the big and small aspects of his game to both positions. A great advantage for the team.

An equal advantage is his 'footy smarts'. Tap ons, awareness, blocks etc. He is really shaping up as a very special player.

The draft of Jackson, Kossi and Rivers could set us up for some good seasons. If Bowey, and/or Laurie come up trumps their 'special' disposal could materially contribute to the team.

Jordan could also be a very special player.

Yes and like most tall kids, they're fair way off. It's no issue, but supporters will need to be patient.

anyone heard anything about Jacksons shoulder? he copped a knock on it in a contest and wasn't seen out there in the second quarter, then returned out there in the third with strapping on it. maybe just a sublux? didn't seem to bother him in the last qtr though.

I wonder why he exploded in the last quarter? Was it something that was said to him? If so, what and by whom? Or was it something self-motivated? We'll probably never know, but he was like a different player in the last quarter.

That mix of raw talent and inexperience.

Young players tend to come in  and out of games until they develop the mental strength, stamina, experience and confidence to be switched on from siren to siren.

This can be more apparent for players who aren’t paying on the ball.  Franklyn, Martin, Hodge, Ablett Jr, used to float in and out of the game.  Even Oliver and Petracca took time to find consistency.

There is a lot of sense in what I say. if we have to carry him while he learns to be a forward, we will lose too many games to make the finals. Daw is a better forward. Courtney is a better ruck and kicks goals. We have two Browns who are better forwards than Jackson. Weid is a better forward too. Would you hold these guys out for Jackson? I think Chandler would have been more useful last Saturday and he definitely will be against the Saints. Crawl back up your own hole, fool.
