I tend to find that comments based onย 'body language'ย tend to be most akin to Rorschach tests.

Or mirrors ...

Ugh, I'm up in arms with all the amateur psychoanalysts on here...

If you seriously think you can judge someone from what you view in the false reality that is a press conference...consider

  • your own expectations
  • your own prejudices
  • your own experiences of how you were 'coached' and how that informs what coaches should behave like (and understand that you and your experiences are not the rest of your cohorts, let alone the rest of the population)
  • flip it on it's head. If Melbourne had made the 8 and met versions of your own expectations, you'd consider the bloke to be pretty relaxed considering the $hitstorm his personal life has been over the last year or so, whilst turning up to a high profile job...but just because we missed the 8...it MUST mean x, y, z...

also...me earlier.... "just leave Goodwin alone...sob"

No-ones claiming to be experts, rather, merely some observations on what we observed. And body language is an indicator of mood. Perhaps we see it differently, but to me he was as flat as a tack, and if so, that feeling is passed on to the others, staff and players.ย

You are just guessing

Been saying it for years....Goodwin is a fraud.

We have two members of the Board who played at the highest level, one who also worked as an assistant coach. We have two ex AFL coaches, one of whom won a premiership and both of whom also have extensive experience as assistants. We have one of the highest-ranked assistant coaches, not to mention other members of the FD who played AFL or who have been working in the AFL for years. Yet at the centre of all this, our head coach is a "fraud"?

Do you even think about what you write?

Every time. You should try it one day.

If posters are being this nasty and vicious towards Simon Goodwin before we've even played a game, one shudders to think what new level of vitriol they have in reserve if things don't go well this season.

Looked like a bloke happy the season is about to start to me. The only thing I would say is that he's starting to look like Dexter Morgan.

What rubbish, nasty and vicious ?ย

Vitriol?ย

Observations from a group of supporters that want toย see the team have success and be coached by a motivated switched on coach, hopefully Simon Goodwin. Thatโ€™s all.ย

His behaviour or presentation is not very reassuring. I hope I am wrong.ย

It's not just this thread, Ernest.ย  There have been some horrible things posted on this site about our coach.

Too many wannabe body language experts on this site.

Yep

Missed finals last year losing to two bottom sides

Missed finals in 2019 because errr pre-season surgeries

Missed finals in 2017ย because we couldn't beat 13th placed Collingwood in final round (not laying a tackle in hte first 20 mins they were so pumped up)

missed finals in 2016 losing to bottom placed Essendon and bottom 5ย Carlton

ย

He is an inspirational motivator. No doubt.

People forget what tiger supporters were saying about Hardwick at the end of 2016......

Part of footy and only more so with social media and supporter forums like this

We need someone who has energy and inspiration for his players. This bloke has neither.

I've often wondered if your moniker is based on the Chuck Berry song? I think there is a definite connection.

Wowwee I know weโ€™re wanting success but letโ€™s get into real season mode before slagging off the coach for his body language and ability to pronounceย words with โ€œrโ€s in them from a press call before rnd 1.ย
We [censored] and moan if he is rar rar and poo poo if he is passive ffs.

They're the ink blot tests that a psychiatrist may show you and ask you what you see. Link:ย Rorschach test - Wikipedia

In reality they're just blots of ink on a page with no meaning. Despite this, the patients will often see meaning in them,ย revealling more about the issues in the patient's head.

In other words, I find that comments about body language only really reveal the poster's issues, not the subject's.

Paul Simon's press conference was absolutely fine to me.ย  He was smiling, upbeat and positive.ย  From much the commentary here I was expecting a Rhyce Shaw 2020 performance.

On Brown: 'Back playing some form of footy between round 5 and round 7'ย

By round 7 Goodwin may be out of a job. I canโ€™t believe they picked up Daw because he was soon as way to replenish our lost talls, but even after kicking four goals, we hear that he isnโ€™t ready for selection and is a long term prospect. Goodwin must really not want to keep his job.ย

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
