LOL this is just complete rubbish.

in the first qtr i saw Sparrow, Jordon, ANB, Jones, Chandler and Spargo lined up as a direct opponent on Daniel at various times. the players rotate through the forward half these days, hardly no one lines up on a direct opponent for a whole qtr anymore. and even though players start lined up on each other from a centre bounce situation that doesn't mean much anyway, from there its all about keeping the structures and how you want to play instead.

the biggest problem we had with Daniel was our mids just couldn't get their hands on the ball enough to move it forward, so Daniel just did as he pleased instead of defending. i only saw Spargo on Daniel twice that first qtr and one was from a kick out and Spargo burnt him for pace running back inside the F50 but didn't get used.

if you were 'watching closely' i suggest you need to go to spec savers. seems your hatred of Spargo is making you blind.

Ok

1  I do  not HATE Spargo , how can you hate anyone that represents the MFC.

He has played more games than I have at elite! Nuff said.

2 I do not think he is soft as some on this site have commented

3 I stand by my initial piont. Spargo WAS Daniels direct opponent for most of the first quarter

4 Sorry to say, I just do not rate him as a footballer. In my view thats the only thing I'm rating!

5 I am not Blind, but perhaps partially deaf

If you're mute it shouldn't stop you writing training reports.

I'm certainly not pointing the finger at Ben. I appreciate his work last year during the covid period and thinks we as a supporter base are lucky to have him. He won me right over with his interview with Josh Mahoneh when he went hard at him. I will also say that he needs to ditch the Gus and Gawny podcast. It's evident to the eye that he gets bullied from both boys with Gus being the most vocal around this. It's actually a disgrace to watch considering Gus has has already experienced mental health dating spud Frawleys daughter. Both Max and Gus need to pull their heads in big time.

I'm not in the camp that's it's all just up to Ben. In a big organization that requires a lot of media attention Ben cannot simply be the one that's been left in this department.  Wasn't there another young blond girl that was involved last year as well during covid?

give me a spell, they're having a laugh with a mate of theirs who obviously wouldn't be on the podcast if he didn't like it. the worlds getting far too pc if u can't make a joke at ur mates expense on a podcast u run. don't like it? don't listen to it, simple really but it would be half the listening experience it is without all 3 of them taking it in turns to make light of a situation whatever it may be

Playing AFL footy at his size would show that he's definitely not soft.

In his first few seasons he struggled to stick a tackle and opposition players took advantage.

To his credit he's improved this area of his game.

I think he's a good natural footballer but at his size you need to be exceptional and I don't see him being this.

That's why I see him as a depth player.

Caitlin Nobes ?? Think she did some interviews. Anyway, here's Ben's latest for you Dazz.

Dazzle, for most of the 1st Quarter and I was watching closely, Spargo was Daniel's direct opponent. The amount of times Daniel mopped up and set of across Half back and launched attacks was telling. Spargo just seemed to be in no mans land.

Spot on. Spargo was consistently slaughtered and caught out of reach to his opponent, slow to get back to ground zero against Daniel and subsequently moved somewhere else.

Funny, but I was listening to some clips of that Amazon Prime thing they've been plugging lately where they followed different people in football last season.

It's probably good viewing but one thing that really annoyed the hell out of me was the incessant need to swear by the coaches...it was pretty juvenile really. It was like I'm a real man, I'm grown up and I really mean what I say and you've really got to listen to me because I'm using the F... word. Leon Cameron and Adam Simpson were the ones I heard in the clips...

It's so embarrassing and more so because I used to do it when I was coaching...I cringed listening to this stuff. It's exactly the male agro rubbish you're talking about and I did it.

Surely a coach can express his message clearly without...listen here, you know what they f...ing think about you, they think you are f...ing weak, just look at the f...ing s... in the media...are we going to f...ing take this or are we going to f...ing do something about it.

It's really childish and pathetic...surely we they can do better.

I've watched the first four episodes. And it is non stop f bombs, from everyone, but particularly the coaches.

In one short speech/spray (not on game day mind you) he must have said it 10 times in 2 minutes.

Hardwick, who just seems angry all the time, uses it a lot too.

Maybe like the prison system, we should ban "Spud" but because of over crowding, allow Richard back in.

I always think it says more about the user 'Bob'...I don't like it at all.

The Test was the same... maybe it’s a requirement as per the not so prim and proper Prime Primer.

Funny you should say that. I was just thinking that based on The Test Langer had the same angry, F bomb vibe as an AFL coach

That's a fair question.

I have previously (a few years back). Will consider doing so again.

I wrote an email to the club this morning and will post their reply.

By the by, in my email i acknowledged that there is a review of the game on the Casey page on the MFC website, which is a real positive:

Wow, that's a bit rough, I understand the Iranians and Americans  tried to cancel Baghdad without much success in the past, but not sure what I have done to peeve the Iraqi people?  I and my potato dwelling kin folk survived the Irish potato famine and will continue to prosper....

? forever haha

All The Goals are up on the club’s website. Beauty!

Frankly after 35 years as a member, most of which has been premium family at a high cost, I could not be more disinterested in the MFC at the moment.  Fatigued by too many false starts for anyone as a football supporter.

so far this year there has been sweet little to get enthused about and for the first time in 35 years I won’t  make a decision on membership until after the first 3 games.  I have had a gutful of the over promising and undelivering.

I doubt you are alone Soidee, if we lose the first three I will be close to the same.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
