I'll assume that Aemond is an anagram... Daemon? Good get for originality if so. Just as well I know Latin to get it. Agree with your assessment in that we need to find out sooner rather than later.

No actually the name relates to something else. I like your way of thinking though too clever for me. Yep 3 years is about right for some players to step up. If they don’t new players will come through

I look at the forward line and shake my head. Spoon written all over it.

I think it's  safe to swap TMac and Baker.  Not sure why they bother naming it like that.  Then it looks fine to me.

Sure it will be better with B.Brown and Pickett in but it's OK.

Oliver just posted a photo of himself at Gosch’s Paddock from this morning. He was clearly training with the leftover group of players. I accept that he is being managed.

Why if managed would he be training with the leftovers at all??. He should STILL be training with the main group I would have thought. A few weeks out from round 1 and he is beimg managed?? Nup not buying that!

Our back lines are looking strong and so attacking, with Hunt Rivers and Lever across the half back line... I love it.
Mid field depth and new talent on display Viney, Brayshaw and Oliver all out but immanent. Vanders is back and playing for his spot, he needs to be on, brutal and effective if he wants to play Round 1. Jones another playing for his next gig... it’s a great across the middle,, and Maxy, Our captain, just signed for another four and looks to be in imposing form... is good.

And then we have our forward line... ok.
right.

should be an interesting game, and I actually don’t mind it if our mids have learnt to better connect. I imagine Maxy will spend bigger chunks up forward if Luke can hold his own in the ruck.

Should be a cracking game, and I’m liking what we’ve got once Ben Brown and Weid return. The pieces are all there.

OK  not a terrible team, some interesting selections to watch.

BUT  that's the question how do we watch it, if we do not have foxtel or whatever  3 hours away from Melbourne,

can I still watch it   ??

Have looked but no real clues    anyone,   please.........

the way i'm reading it,

bowey in for jetta at HT/3qrt & laurie for jones at same time

vanders in from the get go due to no oliver, viney, gus. the correct way to use him in the squad he's not a best 22 player - full stop. keen to see sparrow, jj, harmes from the get go

petty to swap out for tomlinson or to give may/lever a rest as someone on the last page suggested

bedford might get a quarter late for chandler/anb

i really hope mcdonald isn't playing wing and we're playing small ball in the forward line. u still need to structure up around a tall who isn't a second year player @ goodwin

So Lockhart for Salem? I reckon Bowey gets that chance. He’s a better like for like fit.

McDonald was set to play wing in the preseason but he’ll play CHF tomorrow. It’s a giveaway that Baker has the magnet swap with him. My feeling is they have a template they send in to the AFL and they had Tommy lined up for wing earlier in the summer on a test run and they haven’t bothered moving him.

yep lockhart for salem but pushes hunt and riv to the highest spots and plays as a more lockdown type but i think they really want to draw that attacking side of his game out. he's a good kick i think pretty precise for short 15-30m hit ups into the corridor and to break down a compact defense (even tho that doesn't happen anymore )

Anyone heading to Whitten oval for the early game? Might just make the trip to see Gus and a few others run around.

I’m 3 mins down the road, so might pop in for a look.

A half forward line of Jones/Baker/ANB has the stench of a premiership written all over it

I think that we might find Baker swapping roles with T. Mac with Petty also spending time at CHF.

It may have been a main group training. Do they usually train a day before a match? I wouldn’t have thought so. I’m just going by Oliver’s Instagram feed

I can see that happening. But just seeing Jones, Baker/Tmac & ANB for a half forward line in our last hit before the season begins, is not very encouraging. All 4 players are pretty close to not even being on an AFL list. Can't do much about injuries i suppose.

Baker does have some pretty good evasive skills.

His speed can also bring some pressure to the oppositions halfbacks.

I don’t think it is such a bad thing to try.

T. Mac is made for the wing with his endurance. Hope his field kicking has improved.

Petty is the obvious back up for CHF.

It will be interesting to see were they start and finish.

Why would Goody be playing mind games with the dogs or the spectators?

Are you suggesting he’s been disciplined/suspended by the club?

A bit disappointing we can’t see ALL of the “big 3” in action today - Gawn, Trac, Oliver.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
