He’s looked off the pace a number of weeks now, sadly not a surprise.

Serious? I must be watching a different game to you because I think he's been exceptional so far.

Biggest difference in change that I've noticed is he's not playing the rugby scrum style he's been doing the last few years. He's keeping it simple and playing a good selfless game and actually getting his teammates involved.

His game against Richmond was the best he's played since 2018 finals.

He's a huge loss and on the weekend it certainly showed.

On a somewhat positive note, Brukie and Burgo have said on their podcast that 6 months is plenty long enough for an ACL. Neither is sure why in the AFL a year is taken for granted. Other sports, 6 months.

Very few other sports are "360 degree" sports like AFL

Sad news for Tommo, has been a key part of the back 6 this year, and cannot be underestimated in allowing May and Lever to play the roles that we need of them.

That said I think between Hibberd, Petty and TMac we have options for covering him.

Guess Daw as well, signed for Cover for a few key positions and we're currently without Hore/Tomlinson all season and Smith for another 8 or so, so Majak finds himself closer to the team as a defender than a forward.

No not at all, i just think more technology should be put into the AFL boot. I think it is sadly lacking compared to other areas

Good move signing Majak.
he will be needed at some stage...

Bugger. I guess we all suspected it but it still disappoints you when it's confirmed.

Poor Adam, I hope the boys get around him and lift his spirits. He knows this team is onto a good thing and npw he won't be a part of it.

Look forward to having him back next year.

From an article on the MFC site -

“Meanwhile, Richardson has provided an update on Jack Viney, who was a late out of Sunday’s game with a toe complaint.

The 27-year-old will be sidelined for approximately two to three weeks, after reporting some lingering soreness in his toe.

“Pleasingly there is no fracture and we have caught the hotspot in Jack’s toe extremely early,” Richardson said.

“Jack will be on a modified training program for the next couple of weeks and we are confident that this is a minor setback for him.

“We will monitor how Jack responds to the rehab plan with the aim for him to return in the next 2-3 weeks.”

Good comments SWYL. It’s illustrative that you use the word ‘boot’. Boots, in my opinion would give more protection especially to the ankle.

AFL players wear sprinting footwear. My guess is that their pace is not improved markedly.

If I was him at 28, in this squad in this year. I would roll the dice on a synthetic LARS ligament and potentially be back playing in 6 weeks.

Rather than go traditional and be back next year. Can always go down that road if the LARS fails.

Too many foot issues happen nowadays Deef. We need to be proactive

Jack Viney is going to have this problem for the rest of his career

So how do we get the best out of him and minimise the time he spends on the sidelines?

Interesting, I’d forgotten about those.

I would be very surprised if Darren Burgess hasn't considered this. He's the best in the business so surely something as obvious as customised footwear has not been over-looked.

Looks like this hot spot was picked up as part of regular scanning which means a quicker recovery. I'm sure Burgo is keeping a close eye on Jack and will manage him in line with best practice.

In Burgo I trust.

I am hoping you’re right.
We looked a different side completely with Jack out of the middle

But it is something that has bugged me since The Docklands opened in 2000

Foot issues....

Top of the problem pile

I don’t understand why we rushed to give him 5 years when he has so many ongoing foot issues.
There is no doubt he’s an important part of our team and we are worse off defensively in clearances when he isn’t playing. But he hasn’t had an injury free season for a long long time, and that doesn’t appear to be changing.
It’s a real concern that he can’t get over the foot problems.

?we didn’t rush to give him 5 years, he was out on contract and being courted by other teams.  The bloke has a 2 week injury, it’s not exactly a catastrophe.

Jack Viney hotspot in foot. 2-3 weeks.

Just announced on Fox Footy..

And we signed him for 5 years with known previous foot/ ankle issues. Even if its not related its a very worrying sign IMV

Seems like that quick fix treatment has been moved right away from of late?

They are very much out of vogue. Upsetting for Tommo, but I’d go down the normal graft acl route. Get his recovery right and his knee will be as good as new.

I think there a few instances where it is the right choice.

Afl player in a contract year late in career - better to be playing than not.

Bloke like Tommo here injured at a [censored] time when a deep finals run (in professional footy) it looking ominous.

Mid forties lady who still wants to play with kids and go for the week at the snow but can't commit to 12 months rehab.

Outside of those particular circumstances - would not touch it.

Not saying he will  or for his longer life physical health he shoould.... But deep runs at this level are why you play the game. I'd have a long hard look at the option in his shoes
