No news on Petty is good news?

Well we can sit with baited breadth until the casey game this evenng coz we probably won't have the chance to see the sides before then.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Vanders back playing for Ainslie next year. I think this is the last year of his three year deal with us and his body just doesn't seem to be able to stand up to the rigours of AFL football any more unfortunately which is a shame.

Mitch Brown not playing for Casey. Mystery injury?

I can't see him on any lists but I'm pretty sure Mitch Brown was injured at training after the Hawthorn game. Might be on one of Burgo's updates for that week.

Watching the game last night, did anyone else's ears [censored] up when, during one of the quarter breaks, one commentator stated that Harmes was having his first game back following his skateboard injury

Back after the round one game, the MFC stated the following:

"JAMES Harmes will miss the next six weeks of footy after injuring his wrist during Melbourne’s Round 1 win against Fremantle.

The midfielder sustained a knock just after half time on Saturday afternoon, but managed to play out the game without too much concern.

Harmes then had an x-ray, which showed nothing untoward, with only an MRI later confirming a crack in his scaphoid. He will be sidelined until at least Round 7".

I wonder which story is correct?

EDIT - my bad -just reheard what Ben Dixon said at 3/4 time. He said "scaphoid" injury, not "skateboard" injury. I'm having my ears tested today.

Vanders has played 47 games in 6 years. 19 games in the last 4 years. Injuries have really hurt his potential as a tough skilled half forward-mid.  But I remain hopeful that this year, he might be valuable come the second half of the year.  He definitely brings higher physical edge to the team when he’s in the team.

Cats got a massive advantage last year with the shorter quarters and hardly traveling in the second part of the fixture.

And having one of the biggest home ground advantages for eons.

Jack Viney hotspot in foot. 2-3 weeks.

Just announced on Fox Footy..

Hopefully scans show it’s not an ACL.

Likely to be out even if cleared of major damage.

Who replace him? How do we set up our back 6?

Shocking.

Looks bad given his distress.

Petty is probably next in.

Terrible news if true, things were going to well weren't they.

Footy gods like us don't they.

McDonald is playing 3rd tall it looks.  Tomlinson out - Weiderman in

Petty is next in line. He should come in otherwise whats the point having him on the list

Not quite but shades of 2004 with the injuries hitting us as we reach the top.

Any more news on Brown?

Smith down at VFL level is not good either.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
