Update for the Petty and Fritsch contract extensions.

image.png.61adbaee8767f684334e075b3fe0c272.png

The Petty extension is until 2025 when he will be an RFA.  At the end of Fritsch's contract in 2026 he will be an FA.

No change to our list or draft position since the last update.

This has been an amazingly small list turnover, almost all 'forced' changes:  Jones and Jetta retired, Vandenberg going on to a new career, Nietschke had a long term injury, Bradtke (I think) had no more years left as a rookie.  So only true delisting were one from the senior list (Hore) and two from the rookie list (Lockhart and Declase).

A very stable list, one which just won a Premiership!

I’m the same, family were all Bummer supporters and I sure they would be into him: as would Andrew McGrath from his old school.
So, must keep!

Just so you know Adem Yze was a very keen Dons  man. However he finished his playing days as a one club player. 271 games.

I don't think Salem is going anywhere any time soon. However,  Interesting to see what Oliver is thinking. Hope he signs. Soon!

It is a must that we resign Oliver and Weid, although Salem does not concern me as much.He is reasonably consistent without starring.

Absolutely

Depending upon Where Salo plays I am tipping he might almost be an A grader at this years end. That would/may alter his price to outside suitors but really I would expect him to be offered a fair contract for a 3/4 year term by the Dees, and to accept it. Probably in the $5/6/700, 000 per annum or $2mill Or near for 3 years perhaps.

Main reason I believe he will improve Again to another level  ( like Trac) is that his last few games in 2020 He played   with much greater urgency and Actually at a faster level Covering  more Ground more in the centre and half forward lines. If he is played on wing or half forward his impact will benefit his skill and impact on our teams form improvement.

I am aware some D/L ers are critical of ChristIan but urge them to look at his late form in '20 and also stop being critical because he was involved in the 2 Draft Roos decision  with Kelly and Tyson in the early teens.

Salo has plenty of skills that many other older players  in our list would be eternally grateful for. He is critical because of his versatility and hope he goes forward or wing to influence our conversion in 2021.

Lol Andrew McGrath? You do realise Salem was a good few years older then McGrath..

Andrew McGrath is going to play absolute 0% in whether Salem goes to the bombers or not, 0.

No link whatsoever except that they went to the same school.

Update for Lever and Gawn extension to 2024 and 2025 respectively.

image.png.84140d128c0335b1b07ffc858ecd82f6.png

Now for the ones we all want to see:  Oliver and Salem!  And I would add Weideman.

Thanks to @whatwhatsaywhatfor his pick up of Lever details.

FWIW, I agree with you that those 3 are the only MUST keeps on the 21 column. Of the rookies JJ will be uplifted and possibly Chandler and Bradtke should be kept.

You could have 8-10 changes from those 2 lists ending this year, which to me demonstrates great list management, with most players you want to retain still contracted beyond this year.

it's not really great list management really, the competition average every single season is 8 per team add in the shrinking list and it's just standard procedure

You missed my point, which was that the blokes we might move on, are all in their last contracted year, meaning no need to pay out their contracts.

In other words it could be a salary cap disaster, if the blokes you didn’t want, are all on longer contracts.

It wasn’t the number of players we might turn over, but rather that nearly all of them will be uncontracted at the end of the year.

Can now add Daw and D Smith to the rookie list.

Three players to focus on this year: Oliver, Salem, Weideman (in that order).

Very big years for Baker, Bedford, Lockhart, ANB, J Smith and vandenBerg. There are opportunities for each one to get into the 22 early in the season and take big steps towards a 2022 contract. But my expectations are not high for any of them except, maybe, ANB.

Latest update for Daw and Smyth

image.png.42688ee80166337db7737b7af031d232.png

We have a complete list: 36 senior players, 6 A- rookies and 1 B-rookie.

My understanding of the mid-season draft is that if there is a LTI a player can be selected to replace them.  So we can do that with Hore and Nietschke, if we choose, particularly if there is a player we like that missed out in the draft.

I thought Langdon was out of contract end of this year, if so he has to be a priority signing as well.

Maybe it’s just me but it feels like we have more best 22 players still unsigned this year than prior seasons(including James Jordan, ANB and Lockhart) usually it’s only the fringe and older players hoping for another year unsigned for next year and beyond at this point.  Even if we lock in Oliver I feel like we are going to loose a few we would rather not

Update for Oliver 2 year contract (and spelling of Smith's name)

@GarboI update this table based on info in the media at the time a contract is signed.  I notice footywire has Langdon's contract expiring this year which I highly doubt as he wouldn't have come on a two year contract.  Let me know if you have seen other info on his contract and I will update accordingly.  We may have a few extra players unsigned this year but I suggest not many are 'must keep'.

Thank you.

If Hibberd doesn't play much this year he may struggle to get a new contract.  Agree with others but the club may want to keep options open and offer 1 year in some cases.   I would probably put Jordon up there on priority signing especially as he is an RFA this year (due to being delisted then rookied last year) and depending on how he plays I would like to see Weideman continue with us but right now he wouldn't be a top priority.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
