I never call into radio stations & seldom listen but have caught his own talkback maybe twice in the last 3 weeks & am so going to listen on Monday …so biased against Melb…

To be fair to Dwayne Russell, he takes more talk back calls then  anyone else at Sen.

All commentators can be annoying at times, but Dwayne Russell is the only one I can't listen to. Horrendous Dees-hater, and has strong bias in most games he calls.

His comments re Jackson just go to show how stupid some people are. Does everyone remember Tom Hawkins first 3 seasons? And what about James Frawley's first 2 years - he was hopeless.

He also predicted that Port would defeat Geelong in the ‘07 grand final, so his record isn’t one to give much credence to.

Why not ? He after all played for Port  not sure if it was only SANFL or not.

Even Choco in hindsight said that he knew the Power were stuffed before the game, and that the only hope they had left was for him to try to mentally psych them out. Hence why he made those comments prior to the game where he said he was reserving space on the wall for their next club premiership photo.

Dwayne also played for Geelong, and he used his status as a former player at both clubs as the basis of his premise that Port would win.

I think what we've got to remember is that commentators these days are not journalist. The nature of radio and newspapers has changed. 24/7 - limited research, limited time for editorials but most importantly - the need for eyes on the screen or ears on the podcast.,

We are talking about pundits. Pundits to provide soundbites, for advertising dollars

And yep, they're human - for whatever Dwayne seemingly (worst name in the world and mine is pretty similar) has a bias against Melbourne.

If you can get your head around it  - there is a level of acceptance that at times, you need to wade through the bombardment of soundbites and you'll find your way to Mecca... (is that Demonland??)

Luke Jackson is only 19 in his second season. He could be anything but for the time being he plays in the ruck to free up Maxie and runs his opponents ragged. He shows quick and good decision making (handballs to advantage) and has a knack of anticipating and running hard to receive for easy goals. What a pleasure to watch.

It would not surprise me if he even ended up as a midfielder.

Yep. Far too good in traffic to be a forward only.

Can't stand Dwayne Russell and his hyperbolic vomit spew. Even disregarding his irrational hatred of the Dees, they guy is so damn annoying. I'm baffled how he is held in such high esteem by his fellow colleagues. Also, Dogga is gonna be a genuine superstar and one of the best Ruckman in the comp in the coming years, so yeah good call Dwayne. 👿

...and so it begins...

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/08/23/the-talented-teenager-fremantle-should-trade-every-draft-pick-for/

Hasleby believes the 19-year-old will be one of the stars of the league in a few seasons.

“If I’m Fremantle, I’m throwing everything at a key position player in Luke Jackson,” he told Sportsday WA.

“I’d be prepared to give up my whole draft for Luke Jackson.

“He’s the only player I would sell the shop for. Midfielders, other players, not interested. We’ve got that covered. We haven’t had two key forwards in the history of our team.

“I would give my whole draft this year for Luke Jackson because he could be the difference.

“I think in two to three years he’ll be the marquee player of the competition.”

Former Eagle Karl Langdon believes his old side should consider the same play for the West Australian teenager.

“If I was West Coast I would do the same thing. After Nathan Vardy, Bailey Williams is their next best and only developing tall. The next tallest is Harry Edwards,” Langdon said.

“West Coast don’t have anybody else.”

Jackson has already signed a contract extension with Melbourne through to the end of 2022.

After listening to Jackson on the Gus and Gawny podcast, I'd be extremely surprised if he ever left Melbourne.

Also, every team should be "throwing everything" at him. Kid is a freak.

i thought the same

sounds amazingly 'settled'

no doubt helped by having the likes of rivers and pickett come in at the same time and immediately all play together with great success from the get go

Was listening to SEN and Derwayne mentioned that Jackson won't make it as a ruck and the only way he'll carve a career in this league is if he's played exclusively as a key forward.

Is he jumping the gun?

Does he have a point?

Was Jackson that poor in his one game as starting ruck V's North and as a relief ruckman in his other 5 games?

Be interested to hear what you all think his best position will be.

Thought Russell was being a little too harsh on the back of a 200cm kid having a 6 game taste.

ADMIN EDIT:

Here is the actual audio.

ADDITIONAL ADMIN EDIT:

Found the call:

So who else feels like giving Dwayne a call?

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
