He will be a bargain pick up for whoever gets him.

New coach and structure and he will do wonders!

I think he will probably be a bargain wherever he goes. IMO the best out-of-contract player we have. Just isnt working for him at present. At 196cm and 24(?) yrs old, his best is in front of him, but still may be a year off. I expect him to be in the ones at Adelaide and pushing into top 25 if at Pies. He is friends with Darcy Moore already and they may work together well.

Rapt with that.  I really want Oscar to find a new home.  He has more to offer.

The most likely outcome for Oscar is that one of the clubs will him as a delisted free agent.

Once his manager suggested that someone might pick him up as a DFA that was it.

Yes, and quite frankly any pick in the 50's onwards is next to useless for us.

I thought Oscar McDonald played a good game against Hawthorn earlier in the year and he definitely played some good games in 2018.

Sadly, his slow reactions, lack of strength in the contest, and continued turnovers made him a whipping boy here at the Demons.

AFL is a tough caper and you either sink or swim.

I would have to say I would prefer to keep his older brother Tom McDonald as a defender.

Played a (singular) good game v Hawks and the rest were poor. Very poor. Embarrassed by two youngsters in Georgiades (Port) and Mcinerney (Swans).  He has had years to prove himself.  Slow. Poor decisions.  Weak tackle and spoils.  Time for Oscar to checkout and see how he goes elsewhere.  We wish him the best.

I thought I heard Mahoney say that about Tom, not Oscar.

Thought the comments re: Oscar were around that he hasn't been offered a contract at this stage for next year (then me reading between the lines were that with Tom having to play back again, that it's likely that Oscar won't be re-signed).

Might have heard wrong, but pretty sure that was Tom he was talking about, not Oscar.

It definitely was. As 'The Chazz' mentioned below, contract looming for O.Mac, likely he won't receive.

Actual quote on Oscar:  “At this stage, we haven’t offered Oscar a contract…now that we’re getting some idea of what list sizes are going to be, we’ll have another discussion with Oscar"

Wish him well. Never thought he was as bad as many on here and think he would be handy at another team lacking tall defenders

Totally agree - would be surprised if there isn't a few interested teams and he is at least taken on as a rookie.

Oscar is an unassuming bloke, who probably underrates his football worth. He has his flaws (don't we all!), but he gave it everything and should be respected as a man and as a footballer who made it to the elite level. Hope he gets another chance, and if not, finds a rewarding life post football.

Played 81 games which puts him equal 212th out of 1,358 players who played one or more games for the club. That puts him in the top 16% of all players. It's even better than that if you then add in all the players who were on the list but never played even one game.

He should be proud of what he's achieved.

Thanks for wearing the red and blue with pride, Oscar.

Really hope someone takes him as a DFA.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
