Man this just seems like chit show from the Pies... it's great isn't it. You'd think we would rather plonk that type of cash on one of Trac or Oli at there next negotiations not on a Trelor.

I found the obsessive compulsive line from Rendall as interesting, and that he thinks he can manage it on his own.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Collingwood has sounded out Melbourne on Treloar with Oliver in their sights e.g. Treloar + 1st rounder + cover a large chunk of Treloar’s contract for Clayton. They cover a deficiency in their midfield that way and then clear future space in our cap to fit in Brown.

I agree with your assessment of Treloar but the price is huge and I'm not sure we can afford it. I think we need to spend what money we have retaining our current A-graders and improving other areas of the ground.

The unknown I suppose is how badly Collingwood want his salary off their books. They're not short of cash. If they're utterly desperate, maybe they'll agree to pay a significant portion of his salary. I doubt it though, as I suspect there's another club out there that is prepared to put down significant cap space for Treloar (Carlton, if they hadn't already committed to Saad/Williams, would be one, surely).

How about they give us the Lexus Centre and we'll take on his entire contract?

This Treloar situation is a Mirror Image of what happened with Shane Woewodin. Contract is too long and too high.

Treloar is offloaded, or else 4-5 players are gone down the track. We had the same scenario in 2002..

I am not excusing The Filth at all, they should have seen this coming

But you can imagine the stress levels are going crazy right now at Filth Park

I really hope Treloar digs in. He signed the Contract that the Filth presented him

The Pies have doubled down with another shocking contract for Grundy (which is even worse). They have been lucky that they have had great academy and father son picks, plus ex Collingwood supporters who want to play for them for under market rates.

The Grundy Contract is another big part of it

Our Bummers connections make me think it's worth waiting to have a red hot go for Merrett next year.

7 years for a ruckman is just lol.

I remember their supporters celebrating when they signed him up.   He had a poor year too which is not a good sign at all for the Pies.

Interesting response from Max Laughton on the live trade chat today when asked about Treloar.

Hey DZ, you believe Ads is on his way out due to the relationship breakdown now beyond salvaging so who do you see having interest, cap space and the picks to offer? Really slim pickings - North rebuilding, Hawks the same, Dons $$ tied up elsewhere, Carlton no $$, Geelong no $$, Bulldogs no picks, Saints in same boat as Dogs. Give me your scenario.
 less
From a cap standpoint, the Pies are willing to pay some of his 2021 salary if it means getting him out the door and bringing a high-end pick in. I still think the Suns with Pick 5 would be the ideal scenario for the Pies, but the Suns may not have him in their long-term plans. I think the Dees are a watch this space with Adam if he wants to stay in Victoria and play for a big Vic club.

That is interesting given Kane Cornes was spruiking Treloar's fit at Melbourne this morning as well. Would be curious to know what Max's rationale is.  Just an outsiders view of how Treloar would fit at Melbourne, or based on something else?

Like others, struggle to see how we fit Treloar in the cap without shifting someone significant. Brayshaw the only one that's feasible, but still seems highly unlikely.

His contract is $900k per annum for the next 5 years.  The $200 k subsidy Coll are offering is only for year 1.  Then we have a $900k burden on our sal cap for a player who might struggle to get a game in a few years.

I admire Treloar's courage and his outlook on life but I don't think he is an option for us.  As you say let Coll sort out their own mess.

Collingwood are kidding themselves if that is their offer.

$300k supp for every year and even then the fifth year is hard to swallow.

How did they stuff up so badly?

It's far worse than us and Tom Mac

treloar seems like a really nice dude.. i haven't really seen any of the reports on his possible mental health issues, but why this has been made public is real yuck (unless its him disclosing it). wish him all the best. be happy to have him at the dees if the price was right. otherwise, maybe the kangas could finally get a decent signing?!

They messed up by giving Beams a LT offer which he still has two years on and doesn't play.  They have offered Grundy a 7yr deal on (reportedly) around $1m a year (which doesn't start until next year).  And who knows what other LT deals they have.

It looks like they expected the sal cap to increase forever and it would 'rescue' them.  Well covid snookered that plan.

With the Treloar deal they have virtually made him untradeable as it is unlikely anyone will take on his hefty contract for 5 years when he may not be fit enough to see it out.

Yes, the TMac contract is small fry $ and years in comparison.  And credit to the club and Tom that all parties are being very dignified about it.

Treloar has been (bravely) very open on his struggles with at times debilitating anxiety and the support his partner, Bucks & the Pies psychologist have provided him in managing his illness. On record as saying without the level and quality of support, he may not have remained in the game.

This may seem unfair, but on the face of it, North may not be the best environment for him right now.

If we don't get Brown, and the Filth pay some of Treloar's contract for next 2/3/4 years, it might be doable.

Heard on talkback (SEN) that Treloar wants to spend half each week in Qld; doubt any Melb club would touch that.

I don’t get it; both partners have demanding careers that are incompatible with living and family arrangements as well as a young baby. One has to take the sacrifice for the kids sake.

I would be keen were it not for his enormous salary cap demands, if the pies want to pay 200k for every year I’d consider it but even then it’s a massive chunk to put into a player that we have to ask, does he meet our needs? Plus there’s the draft pick(s) we have to hand over.

Pies have really screwed the pooch on this one and it’s time the AFL put in someone at their integrity unit to investigate (and sanction) clubs for acting this way. Roles reversed the pies hold him to his contract, but now that they don’t want him because of their own list management stuff ups they try to make it unworkable at the club? They should be docked points off their F/S, academy, draft positions (I’m still confused about how that works).

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
