Will it effect their 'destination club' status 'Red'???

If I were a player I would have 2nd thoughts.

It could.

Don't think his team mates or prospective recruits would like a 5 year to go contract just ignored.

Adam Treloar shouldn't have to pay the price for the Pies irresponsible recruitment of Dayne Beams on big $$ the Pies knew about Beams challenges when they recruited him. now pushing this guy out the door because of the cap squeeze that's created is a horrible look.

hard to imagine any decent young player thinking their contract would be respected by the Pies after this

Sad, feel for him.?

Hope he gets a chance at another club?

If not he stays and gets paid for 5 years or leaves/retires and gets paid anyway.

and clubs and fans want loyalty?  this is outrageous if true.  if he wanted to leave at this stage of his contract, a club would usually decline such a request.  so he should just say he is happy and doesn't want to move.

so disrespectful for a quality player and from what I can tell from AFL360 etc, a quality young man

Wait for the Hawks to swoop in and grab him on the cheap

If I was Treloar, I wouldn't be interested in Hawthorn. I'd be trying to get to Richmond (if that bridge hasn't been burnt) or even Carlton.

If he was wanting to stay in Victoria, why would we not target him?

He's a gun midfielder with pace who can kick goals. His field kicking isn't the best, but he's still a very very good midfielder. He puts on good defensive pressure (rated elite, ave 5 tackles a game across his career), links up well around the ground (rated elite, ave 16 uncontested possessions a game across career), can win hard ball (rated elite, 5 clearances, 10 contested possessions) and elite for metres gained (ave just under 350).
Pies would pay 200k of his salary, he's 27 years old and in his prime. Because they've publicly spat the dummy, he'll cost less in draft picks than he normally would've. Midfield of Petracca, Oliver, Treloar, Viney, Langdon, Smith, Brayshaw looks very good!

1 goal in 10 games this year. Hamstring injuries in a speed player. Makes me concerned about Aaron Davey like decline. He’d cost our future first which bans us from trading future 2nd and 3rds for Ben Brown et al

But most of all I think we might have only 1 more big ticket recruit in our cap if we want to keep our core. If a players not perfect and will cost upwards of 700k that’s a lot of opportunity cost. I want a ticket in the Merrett and Kelly free agency sweep stakes

I’m definitely making a call. If the Filthy pies pay some $ from his contract. He’d be a good fit, even as a goal kicking half forward or mid. A 3 year deal only.

Even if the Pies pay $200k that still leaves $700K for a club to find to pay him.

If you pick up a player with that sort of financial poison pill attached, how to we find the money to pay Gawn, Oliver and Jackson next year to extend their contracts?

We can’t afford a big 5 year contract.
would be bery irresponsible

We would lose Tracc and Oliver going forward

Pleasant to see other clubs with salary cap problems due to long contracts.

Will be interesting to see if the power clubs move to maximum three year deals.

The Buddy deal made long contracts seem smart with the ever growing media money and its accompanying increase in the salary cap. Not anymore.

I'm pretty sure the rule is that as the player is still contracted, his current club has to either honour that contract, find a suitable party that would be willing to take on the remainder of that contract, and if not, they will have to make up the short fall.

So basically, Collingwood have screwed themsevles with this one, and it's bloody magnificent.  And Adam will receive the money he was promised.

That said, we're in the same boat with Tom Mc by all reports, although we're not taking pot shots at him before any potential trade has been done.

Yep. We have no way of looking at Treloar. Would be a disaster

Wouldn’t surprise me if Collingwood has sounded out Melbourne on Treloar with Oliver in their sights e.g. Treloar + 1st rounder + cover a large chunk of Treloar’s contract for Clayton. They cover a deficiency in their midfield that way and then clear future space in our cap to fit in Brown.

We pay around 700k to extend Jack Viney...i would think Treloar would be worth it if we could get him for around the same $$$...he is much more value to a team the type of player he is.

Sorry George , I didn’t know he was on that sort of $$. Holy cow. I’m not buying at that price. I thought he was a $500k a year type. No wonder pies are being “grand prix” ,  but screw them. They did the deal

His contract is $900k per annum for the next 5 years.  The $200 k subsidy Coll are offering is only for year 1.  Then we have a $900k burden on our sal cap for a player who might struggle to get a game in a few years.

I admire Treloar's courage and his outlook on life but I don't think he is an option for us.  As you say let Coll sort out their own mess.

I really hope this burns Collingwood. What young player would trust them to honour their contract commitments given how this is playing out?

I agree with your assessment of Treloar but the price is huge and I'm not sure we can afford it. I think we need to spend what money we have retaining our current A-graders and improving other areas of the ground.

The unknown I suppose is how badly Collingwood want his salary off their books. They're not short of cash. If they're utterly desperate, maybe they'll agree to pay a significant portion of his salary. I doubt it though, as I suspect there's another club out there that is prepared to put down significant cap space for Treloar (Carlton, if they hadn't already committed to Saad/Williams, would be one, surely).

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
