In that article it says we offered a two year deal but the Dogs trumped us with a three year deal.

Feels like the Dean Kent trade from a few years ago.  I'm happy that we didn't offer three years as I don't believe his last few seasons warranted such an offer.

I do like Mitch but he has been treading water for a couple of years now (maybe injuries to blame). I would have offered a one year deal, at a pinch 2. Doggies come with 3 they must be keen. Fair enough to take that up. All the best Mitch.

Mitch played consistently in his first year 2017 and looked a ready made talent his second year 2018 missed some games however his game against Geelong in the finals he lit the MCG with a goal that will live  forever with most of us. He was a fair player that didn't realize his potential.

That is his claim for 15 minutes of fame    I would say the goal that sealed the game.

cannot believe we were actually gonna offer 2 even!

somehow we've managed to frustrate enough players that our necessary list turnover is coming  from all the fringe players wanting out instead of us telling them they're not required which is amusing and also extremely concerning.

theres no way he has played well enough to justify 2 more years, and if he was offered two what the hell are we offering hunt, spargo, hibbo and the rest of current OOCs!

3 years is bold, but he was at Footscray before coming to the Dees so the Dogs insiders would know plenty about him.

Hard to see him being any more regular in their best 22 than he is in ours.

For once agree Turner but I reckon Hunt and Spargo are worth keeping For 1 to see if improvement at least and Hibbo actually had quite a good season but age  Would limit it to one each year from now on.

Bitter sweet for me.

Sad to lose him as I feel he has X factor that we sorely need, however he’s hot and cold. Doesn’t impact games enough and injury prone.

Wish him well, but will miss him. The goal in the 2018 semi final is something I’ll never forget.

Sat next to his father in our 3 point win at Subiaco in 2017. Lovely fella.

Mitch was actually born in WA, Armadale Hospital.

Good Luck Mitch whatever happens, you will live on in Dees folklore forever with that Elimination final sealing goal

I like that our lesser-lights are bailing from the goodship MFC. Means to me that we have a pretty solid 22 and they can't see themselves getting much game-time in the future. Best of luck Mitch, Tomald and Braydon. Nice to have known ya.

I rate him and would like to have seen him tried at wing or HB but there must be reasons why the FD believe he wouldn't make it there.

in interviews he seems like a good guy, I hope he has a decent career at the Dogs, I think Beveridge is a very good mentor.

We'll get a future 4th for him.

My read on this, which could be wrong, is that we're not sure if Salem's contest game and ability to win ball himself is good enough to play mid. As we know, a lot easier to play the half back role than win your own ball in the middle.

I want him to utilise his kicking more than he does. If he ever pushes up to the 50m arc, he usually hits a leading target that results in a score. We need more of that from midfield. For this reason I think Fritsch and Melksham (if both are playing), should play high half forward, because their delivery is usually brilliant. Salem is another I'd like to try between centre wing and forward 50.

The inflexibility of the midfield is absolutely a problem, which is why I'd play Viney in the forward pocket and be open to trading Gus if we could land an A grader (Merrett).

I think if we land Saad he'll almost certainly move up the ground, but even without Saad, I'd like to see Rivers given more responsibility and even bring in Lockhart to play deeper and allow Rivers a bit of latitude to attack.

If Salem played on a wing, I think you'd have to try and stretch him defensively (as an opposition), but I think playing at half back for as long as he has, he's a lot better defensively these days and often wingers are a bit on the softer side by nature, so tackle and run hard and use your kicking to set up scoring chains and you'll be doing your job. I'd like to see it tried. (and I'm not claiming Salem is inherently soft at the contest)

If you let Salem get a look from just outside 50 he'll hit up a leading target or kick the goal himself. He could become a weapon.

Agree with your comments regarding Salem re the mid-field. Are we confident in taking that leap of faith ? Doesn't appear so. Also agree that there's an inflexibility within our mid-field. But do we actually need another 'A grade mid'  to fix it? Or just a capable player who also may have a point of difference? Someone with a bit more dynamism who can come into the middle from time to time.

Yeah, I'm happy enough with the addition of Smith and I'd like Phillips too. Otherwise, I'm happy with Salem playing off half back.

He's wanted by the club and was offered two years. I'd be wanting a swap of third round picks to bring us into the 30s. We already have a bunch of useless 4th round picks for this year - we can toss one of those in too if they're not all required for rookie upgrades.
