In case you didn't see my post on the other TMac thread. About five weeks ago, I made a post saying the Pies might be into Tom. I had heard this. The fact that there is still interest from them, suggests that the interest may be legit. I'm pretty sure they also mentioned him playing down back.

Question. I'm confused by this notion that clubs would be scared off by his salary. A club brings him in and they would negotiate a new contract, right? Maybe we pay a portion to satisfy all parties as best as possible - but failing that he stays at Melbourne as an outsider and doesn't get a game. I know this isn't ideal for us - but if he's grumpy and wants out he can take a pay-cut. Like employment decisions normal people have to make.

Plus, it can’t be a very pleasant work environment for him. He’s under-performing and on a big contract. The other players are bound to be resentful towards him. Professional pride has to play a part as well. He seems like an honourable sort and I can’t imagine he’s happy collecting a big pay check and not pulling his weight.

I hope he’s realistic with his wage demands.  For everybody’s sake he needs to leave the MFC.

Not sure some on here understand the haircut we will take if T Mac leaves.

IMO he should go but we will probably end up paying around $200k per year of his salary for the next two years. Anything under $200k would be a win for us.

Note it is a Sam McLure article  and of late I hav this feeling his scoops are straight form managers looking to stimulate interest. I hope he hasn't become a mouthy piece for a manager looking for a better deal but could explain how a scoop could go off the boil and suddenly come to life again. Just look at Rama ringing every club trying to find a home and a long term contract for Ben Brown.

This is a horrible time of year all around with deceit the second language of the AFL.

It seems such a sharp U-turn from just a week ago when he was slimming down to win his spot back, that I tend to agree.

Brown, or another forward (are there any on the table?) must on their way to us.

Reckon we were playing games there.

No pruess and no tmac, we better have another tall ready to go in our back pockets. Wouldn't be against flipping tmac and may forward and back respectively whee games need it to get the best out of the talent we have

Perhaps Thomas coming to us and we end up paying the difference? They get something, we get something?

Yeah, we do so well out of these deals with Collingwood.  Remember Kennedy and Lumumber?

That said - I'd take Mihocek.

I have only really heard Barrett say we’re after Brown. Has anyone else linked us to him?
Would make sense that we move  Tmac on if we get Brown.

I know this is off topic but the Fox Footy article has a mention of something that makes me roll my eyes every time. They claim this great victory that Howe was turned from forward into defender. When he left us he was playing in the exact role he's doing at the Pies but when he left they said, "you are a forward and we will play you there". Sure enough he goes to the forward line and is useless, they switch him to defence and say, "jeez Bucks is a genius moving Howe to defence!" Anyway, mini rant over.

With Tom there was be a hint of sadness about him leaving, he was pivotal to our 2018 Finals run and provided one of my favourite moments in recent Dees history with his winning goal agains the Eagles in 2017. I confess I was actually a little happy when I heard a few weeks ago that the word was he was staying and setting himself to get leaner and closer to his 2018 body shape (apparently he bulked up to match the gorilla style defender and improve his contested marking).

But it does also seem like there's a fracture in the relationship between club and player, he's been taken over by Wied and LJ, and in the games he's played he has shown little to give us confidence of a return to form. It could well be that a change of club could be a good thing for him, and moving him on will free up our salary cap.

It's sad, but I hope whatever happens (stays or goes) the Dees fans treat him with the respect he's earned over his years with us. Certainly the garbage that has been said about Oscar would understandably make him want to get out of here.

Love it....

“Maybe he’s destined to return to the backline. I’m not sure where Collingwood see him fitting in but they recruited Jeremy Howe as a forward and turned him into one of the great defenders of the last five or six years.”

Almost fell off my chair with laughter reading this.

Forgot about Mihocek! That would make sense if we don't get Brown. Also we already have a mascot named after him!

Didn't Peter Moore win a Brownlow with us? Henry Coles went around alright.

Both are perennial underperformers who are over rated by the support base?

On a serious note, Brown vs TMac?How much different was Brown's 2020 form from Tom's? Can all Brown's fall be blamed on others? Can all Tom's fall be blamed on him?

You make a good point though Bro . . . Dawes was a big time bust (as was virtually everything in this era at the Deez) as was Johnny Dellamata and Phil Carmen. We somewhat got them back though . . . happy to have off-loaded Dunn to them.

It may just be hear say but I have heard we may be signing Shaun Mckernan on a two year deal.
Replaces Preuss and also another forward option.
No official mail on this but thought it would be good to discuss.

Welcome to Demonland Shaun, a great first post it must be said! ?

Though in all seriousness I also mentioned in another post that Shaun may be worth looking at as a DFA purely as ruck cover. Though I think 2 years would be a bit rich, surely 1 would do.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
