Or perhaps the fact that Goodwin wanted Yze to join last year when Jennings left but couldn't get him because of contract, shows that Goodwin knows its an area he needs expert support and is thrilled to have him on board.

If Yze helps us succeed it just proves Goodwin was right to try and get him last year!

Goodwin's position this time last year and now are chalk and cheese as we all know.

He now effectively has until the mid season bye next year and if unsuccessful Yze will be given the remainder of the year to see what he can do.

Another performance like  2020 won't and shouldn't be tolerated.

If by chance Goodwin is successful Yze will be into the next available senior coaching position which is probably North at the end of 2022 with a possibility of Adelaide or the Hawks.

Interestingly there's only 9 months or so between them age-wise. 43-44.

yet I would value Yze's near decade under Clarkson and insdie the hawks machine (with fagan as well) as far more valuable than Goody's time at the Bombers and with us under Roos.

If Yze can build on the CV with a successful stint helping Dees into finals, he will be the enxt in line for elsewhere .

Good luck to him.

Who are Brisbane assistant coaches?? How many AFL games did they play along with Fagan???

FIIK ?

All we need now is for Cam Bruce to join (from the blues after spending time with the hawks) to complement Yze and Green and we'll have an awesome forward line that can kick a sausage from almost anywhere

Whilst I like his appointment from a talent point of view, the fact we are already looking at getting in new assistants basically states that Goodwin isn't going anywhere and for that reason alone, I hate this appointment!

Goodwin was never going anywhere.

Wonder how Goodwin will cope with that clear signal?

Well I hope he appreciates the support.
Ooooooozzze is rumored to be a bit of a “match day expert” which would be a very valuable link in the chain.

Oooooozzz .... Love this appointment ... just for kicking skills alone !

fritsch will be slotting goals left foot on the run , along the boundary line blindfolded next year !!!!

While I'm rolling... anyone who feels impelled to comment on a Coq au head post needs help!

Compelled? (Sorry, just finished marking university assessments and couldn't stop myself).

Also, you're probably right. Despite my many years on this site, his tomfoolery is new and novel to me.

It was entertaining to begin with but the whole having a crack at dead blokes routine took some of the gloss off.

2021 prediction? Our field kicking to improve through the roof, the only way we will go to the next level.

Of course with some shrewd trading.

This is something I’ve been advocating for a couple of years now, so it pleases me greatly.

He’ll be head coach in 2022.

Before then, let's have a Worsfold situation where the nominal head coach cuts oranges and the assistant does the heavy lifting

Targeted for his Hawthorn IP no doubt. He knows all the drills, all the methods of Clarko. Very valuable.

Hopefully, and I'm sure he is, Goodwin open to listening and learning from the Yze.

Well that worked out well, didn’t it.
And what did the Chief Pharmacist add to the oranges? Valium?

How do we know he ticks all the boxes?

Some of us remember his highly reliable skills and onfield leadership - provided in an unusual abundance in a rather 'wanting' time for the MFC. We who acknowledge were so interested in the Ooze that we followed his progress and rapid rise at Whoreform, providing a talented list great tutelage and thoughtfulness that he became Clarkson's right hand man, if not, a little bit of the leftie, as well.

Yze is the bloke to solve the Goodwin shortcomings. I'd like Jordan Lewis in there, as well. I think the two of these blokes could be a partnership made in Heaven for the Club. The subsequent release of Goodwin from the Club would be a very good thing and I, for one, hope that the Board consider this scenario. We have the talents to go far ... to not recruit too heavily or with desperation.  Onfield development and skills development is everything ... leadership and respected recognition from the players is a 'must achieve maxim' for the Club in this disappointing time. Carna far king Dees!

I've got the funny feeling that the situation you allude to was pre-Worsfold and just may have involved a golden haired idol who was in over his head.

Ooze will ease him in with Hawthorn IP for Dummies:

  • when a team scores a lot of goals in row against you, try to stop them doing it
  • when your guys have the ball, have them try to kick it to another one of your guys

Landmark stuff which could prove very useful.

I hope he teaches him how to get the umpires to accept invitations for morning coffee as well.

Clarko’s 2020 year without good players was interesting.

impel

verb
past tense: impelled; past participle: impelled
  1. drive, force, or urge (someone) to do something.

I was hoping to get away with my application of the verb, but compelled would be a better choice.

First off this is a great appointed, forgetting that he’s a favourite son of the club he has lots of runs on the board as an assistant to the best coach of the decade.

The fact that he is a favourite son who gave us some great memories just adds an element of romanticism to it that warms the heart after a frustrating year.

With all the chatter about what this means for Goody there’s a couple of different schools of thought. For me the way I look at it is this: entering into a season where it was always finals or bust for Simon we have managed to get him the assistance of one of the highest rated assistant coaches in the game. It minimises the excuses for Simon and he should be stoked to have someone of Adem’s quality on board.

The other way to look at it is this: the club isn’t confident in Simon’s ability to lead the team and is putting a succession plan in place in advance with Yze potentially taking over mid-late next year if results go poorly.

It for now can we just not enjoy have Oooooooooooooze back at the club?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
