Will that thug Michael Long’s nephew go for that head hit on Macrae?
Headhunting in the genes!

His uncle nearly killed troy simmonds, I've detested him ever since.  The hit today looked bad but wasnt much damage done, he'll probably get a fine.

Spot on mate. The Filth were treated like Leppers this week and they made it a challenge.
we would have complained

there is the difference in attitude.
How many finals series have the filth played since 1964?

They always front up...

Remarkable game by the Pies unfortunately they made the Finals and we didn't . They are mentally much tougher than we are and l don't like to say it however that  it is a fact.   The proof is in the pudding they beat the WCE in a final  as underdogs when it counted.

I hope our guys understand what it takes  to play finals .

As much as l hate them tonight l admire there urgency and want. It was hard earned.

As much as I hate to say it geelong must beat the pies next week because if the pies get through I fear they will beat brisbane and nothing would make me feel more ill if the pies get into a gf from 8th spot.

I've got a confession. I dislike Geelong more than Collingwood.

I don't hate Collingwood so much.
Just their supporters.

I share your views Dees189227. I just can't cop Collingwood, it's non-negotiable and they are the no.1 team that needs to exit the finals prontissimo.

Yeah, I don’t really get the consistent ‘watching these games we are a mile off’. I really don’t think we are.

Agree we are not, but our forward line has not functioned properly for 2 years. We let the ball walts out of our F50 without any sustained pressure whatsoever.

I would offer Mihochek a 4 year deal on 600k a year, tackles, chases, takes pack marks, Good conversion rate, big tank and splits packs.

Worth every cent.

They always competed though

we fell apart

Cat performance very Melbourne like -

Intensity, but missed chances

forward kicks 5 points

reject Motlop kicks 3 goals from 3 kicks

Hope Weid saw King’s game for Saints.

Seriously happy to watch Eagles and their fans cop it at Boo factory.

Better structure and system for WC but pies still found a away to win.

Made most of their chances - never gave in

love seeing the west coast get beat in Perth and their feral supporters losing their minds.

Ditto. Would have enjoyed more images of the crowd leaving though for a thorough gloat. First time I can remember not minding seeing the Pies win.

Very obvious We lack quality forwards who can create a contest, take a Mark & keep the ball in the fwd line. All the finals teams have them who are ours??? No question we get the ball into our fwd 50 enough times

Are you telling me all those Collingwood supporters live in Perth? Something fishy going on here. Looks like people smugglers were busy this week getting certain groups across multiple borders. Or did they arrive via boats.

Yep, there are heaps in Perth...

If, but’s and maybes but we ain’t and it’s our own fault we aren’t playing finals at the end of the day.

Agree but cannot help thinking the only reason Collingwood made it is because we stuffed up in Cairns. As the final season finished they are the team we should have replaced in the final 8. So if Collingwood go on in October it is our fault!! The horror

If we replaced Collingwood in the 8 West Coast would’ve beaten us by 10 goals

Carins was bad for us in challenging scheduling circumstances.

But what really cost us were two games we let slip earlier in the season that would have got us into finals:

  • Geelong where we experimented with one tall fwd being a sluggish TMac.  It didn't work.  We lost by a few points.
  • Bulldogs.  We played them off long breaks (7 days and before that 6 days) after 3 good wins and we were terrible.  We gave them our spot in the finals that day.

Win either of those and we would have been 7th playing the saints yesterday who we could have beaten.  And play the pies next week, another winnable game to make a prelim vs Brisbane.

But for the ifs and buts we were 9th.   Oh, what might have been...

Just to note: we beat both Collingwood and St Kilda recently. The stuffed non-shot at goal by Tomlinson against Geelong and who knows????

Not making excuses. Simply expressing admiration for the people who run the Collingwood Football Club and who always fight tooth and nail to get the best deal for the team.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
