That for sure but more for a tiring Hibbo. Wouldn’t have let Greene near it today.

Still need to think about a good ball user.

Thought Hibberd was good, Greene only had 7 possies, l know he kicked 3 but one of those was a shocking decision by the umpire.

Greene is a terrific footballer, don’t think anyone could’ve done any better than The Pig

hibberd was fine on greene; he had 7 disposals and kicked 3 goals - he made his possessions count but barely got it and hibbo completely blanketed him

hunt was one of the the ONLY players working hard in the last quarter to try and keep us in the game; he was pinged because he got caught betwixt and between kicking for goal and setting up a teammate - it was both good (in that he wanted to do the 'team' thing) and bad (in that he didn't back himself in to kick the goal and as such got caught holding the ball)

that said...i want maynard as he perfectly suits our list and side's structure, has family history at the mfc

from all reports, cerra is definitely on the move - he is gonna command serious $$ for a player who has yet to really 'break out'

Great post ??

I only watched the 3rd quarter of the game Crows v Eagles but Tom Lynch from the Crows looked in good form. Back from injury, he played across half forward and took some good marks. Nice skills, kicked a smart goal and setup another. Hit targets. Given his 31, I think he’s a free agent and probably unlikely to get another contract with the crows.   Think he would add to our list and be very handy addition whilst we’re in the premiership window.  I’m usually not a big fan of such 30+ recruits, he might be one player to consider in the off season and not command big $ to stretch the salary cap. Just a thought.

his body has broken down repeatedly with soft tissue injuries in 2019-21 - i think he's more likely to retire than be picked up by another club

Adam Cerra from the Dockers, he is the player we need to compliment our Midfield, would offer Brayshaw and some pick swaps.  Dockers get an inside mid we get our outside mid.

Apparently to Tigers, though C. Wilson thinks not according to Age RFP.

Josh Kelly please.

weed likely to stay at the mfc according to the little paper

DEMONS AIM TO KEEP THEIR HOOKS IN WEIDEMAN

Melbourne remains confident key forward Sam Weideman wants to stay at the club for the long-term despite being pushed out of the senior side.

The agile goal kicker is out of contract at season’s end but has not yet flagged any plans to explore a move to a rival club at the end of the year.

The Demons have strong belief Weideman has a bright future at the club even though he has been leapfrogged by new recruit Ben Brown and remains behind Tom McDonald and Luke Jackson in the forward line pecking order.

He has been out of the team since the Round 13 loss to Collingwood but the Dees are content the contract discussions will lead to his signature even if he is yet to put pen to paper.

Collingwood would be a natural fit but does not have the salary cap room to accommodate Weideman, while Gold Coast is hunting another key forward and has put its first draft pick on the table to help secure a quality marking target.

Weideman, 25, has booted only three goals from five games this season and averaged eight disposals a match, having failed to grab his chance when he was in the senior side.

The average form means even if he did demand a release he would not command a considerable bounty in return at the trade table.

The Demons brought in Brown from North Melbourne and have been thrilled with McDonald’s output this year after failing to trade him last year.

The Demons have done an outstanding job tying up their priority targets this year re-signing stars Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca, Max Gawn and Christian Salem.

Anyone for Andrew Gaff?

Not sure he would leave and we'd have to get him at the right price and not pay overs

No way.  Last time we had a crack he said 'I am NOT going to the Dees'.  With that attitude Gaff can go stick his head up a dead bears posterior.  (And he is incredibly slow).

Paging Saty, paging Saty.

The Suns have put their first rounder on the table? What # is that?! Paging Jason Taylor to spin that into some sort of unbelievable outcome. Maybe he can turn Weid into Josh Kelly and a 2nd rounder in, Weid + change out. :mahoney2:

That is not correct, he was keen but we didn’t want to meet his wage demand and contract triggers

in terms of KPF he's not the type we need, BBB, Weid TMac and MBrown are all agile/high roaming tall types we ideally need a more stay at home pack marking monster who can hold off 3 blokes and still clunk it ie Hawkins/HMcKay

None of those exist aside from Hawkins and McKay

Perhaps Hawkin's relationship with Shannon Burns in the key in getting him across ?

Well, in fairness, most people would try to be incredibly slow if that was their allowed task. ?

I think the reality has to kick in. We are unlikely to have the players, trade picks or $$$ available for a Josh Kelly, Andrew Gaff, Adrian Cerra etc. (though Josh Kelly would be the perfect fit for our midfield).

Hibberd, Jetta, Lockhart, and to a lesser extent Hore, all out of contract; so I wonder if there's a half back in the pipeline somewhere? Clearly Bowey is starting to edge close to a game, but that seems a lot of one type to lose in one go.

Actually pretty surprised Hibberd hasn't been re-signed yet.

Maynard and Tucker would be two that I would look at if possible for half back positions. Dawson can play this role as well or as a winger but sounds like he doesn't want to leave.

I feel our midfield is still immature and lacking leadership. They may not be the exact type of players we need (inside mids) but I reckon Parker or Cunnington would be a great free agency acquisition on a two year contract, possibly on reduced coin with the lure of a potential premiership.

Get friendly with H McKay's agent, lay the groundwork, make sure we have cap space and have a red hot go at bringing him across when he hits free agency in 2 years time

Other than bringing Maynard in I can't see any high profile acquisitions this trade period

Hawks game wouldn't have helped Hibberd, he was terrible. He has played well in other games though. Pretty sure he will get another year. Hore plays a bit taller and Lockhart is a little more versatile, but obviously can't crack the team atm. A few will go no doubt.

I can see Bowey as our Caleb Daniel and I am keen on Deakyn Smith, who is more like Salem, but with extra aggression.

Don't know about Declase and Turner looks more a key back.

Petty doing ok and Tomlinson to return, so a good hbf could be looked at but we do have options.

I'm a big fan of both Delcase and Turner. Neither I would class as a half back though. Turner is a bit like Lever IMO, good insurance for him and potentially as he develops could become more of a 'key back' type like May potentially. Declase I could see developing into a wing option, but from what I've seen he's a real utility type with a bit of dash.

Bowey looks great too. Only a matter of time there.

My thinking was more that it seemed we had a few similar types out of contract and was wondering if there was something in that or just individual circumstances that happen to group together. Watch this space I guess.

If the Maynard move to us happens, a few will be let go.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
