Even if we finished in a ladder position to 'negotiate', we wouldn't have a true choice.  We'd nominate our preference and the the AFL would give us the slops and schedule the game at the worst possible time and venue for us.

Picket, cheer up, it’s not that bad surely. You could be dead.

We would be the team that finished on top of the Eagles but still had to go play them in Perth. Fly in Fly out mind you.

Its such a waste of a year.. there are the obvious losses to Sydney and Freo, who are not a bad side, but losses to Geelong by 3 points and the Lions by 4 points were probably the games that have cost us a finals spot.

The club needs to get really aggressive in the offseason, lose the dead weight, reinvigorate with some youth and a couple of good players. If they want to be a ruthless club, they go and make things happen.

That’s ridiculous really. Gabba will be preferred by the Vic clubs.
Week 1 should see

Power v cats - Adelaide Oval  Thurs night 7:10 CST 7:40AEST

Lions v Tigers - Gabba  Fri night 7:40AEST

Eagles v Dogs / Demons - Optus Stadium  Sat afternoon 4.30AEST  2.30WST

Pies v Saints - Gabba - Sat night 7:40AEST

Hard to see it as a waste of a year, when we finished 17th in 2019 and will most likely finish 8-10th in the cluster [censored] that is 2020.
How much inconsistency did we come into this year with?

Players that didn't/hardly played for MFC in 2019.

May
Tomlinson
Langdon
J. Smith
Brown
Jackson
Rivers
Pickett
Bennell
Vanders
Sparrow

Now how many of those have become a mainstay in this years team?
You turn all of those players into regular players and expect miracles?

Every AFL premiership side in... as long as I can remember. Have had one ingredient more obvious than any other, cohesion. The spine of the team have played between 50-100 games together. You can't keep chopping and changing and then expect results, doesn't happen that way.

Since the best we can do is finish 8th, we wouldn't get a home final so it's a moot point.

Anyway you look at it its been a waste, lost games we should have won, will very likely miss finals spot, wasted a year of Max Gawn dominance, Petracca having a career year and not capitalising losing members, member unrest more negative press than positive, Presidents getting involved, Coach on teh nose.. all could have been avoided had we not been the mentally week club that we are.

How you can frame it any other way im not sure.

Absolutely none of that correlates to the unintelligent line 'wasted year'.

You clearly prefer to look at things through a pessimistic glass, not a realistic one.

Mate The aim by all at the club was finals not bottom 8 thats realistic

That's called a goal, not a perspective.

No it’s not a waste, but it is a Failed year

We as a Club have to suck it up AND LEARN FROM IT, rather than walking away from it and/or blaming injuries

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
