Demonland 74,333 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Surprised (or not) that this is not all over social media. I only found this story. Would have thought the video would be all over the place. Not even the usual suspects are spotlighting this. I guess the AFL don’t want a landslide winner not eligible. 1 Quote
adonski 13,236 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Could Bradbury the finals and a Brownlow medalist Quote

Elwood 3184 1,365 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 His name’s Neale, not Neal-Bullen. They won’t look at it or they will find a way to rariinalise their way out of it. 3 Quote
DubDee 26,667 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Was not a sling. His arms were mostly free and contact fell on his shoulder mostly. not suspension worthy imo 8 Quote

I’m not suggesting he be suspended but it needs to be looked at and it will be brushed under the carpet. If this exact incident was involving Oskar Baker it would be looked at. No question. 2 1 Quote

Cheap Seats 3,310 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Guaranteed to get the good guy rule. Nothing to see here. Only low end players get suspensions/book thrown at them. Quote
Dr. Gonzo 24,468 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 He didn't sling which is how they'll rationalise not giving him anything. Could be deemed a dangerous tackle though (think Kozzies ones against the Lions earlier this year) and get a fine, honestly it's probably not worthy of anything but no doubt the AFL would look after their favourites especially those in Brownlow / finals contention. Go the Biff 3,474 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Nothing to see here. Free kick for holding the man and move on. Arms weren't pinned and if Blakey is too goofy to use his free arms to break his fall, that's on him. 1 Quote
darkhorse72 1,943 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Not a sling, it looks like simple momentum carrying them both forward, and the swan hit his head. Quote

Who's this ... Brisbane versus ... looks a bit like Sydney? I'll look it up later ... oooh. Ooooh. That looks bad. That's weeks. Who's that number 9? ... 7 Jarrod Berry ... 8 Ely Smith ... 9 Lachie Neale ...... Lachie Neale? Brownlow favourite? Better look at that again. Oh no ... the bloke's not hospitalised. It can't be too bad. You can't put a star out of the game just because he deserves a suspension. Okay, next one...." 1 Quote
Gawndy the Great 9,011 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 (edited) He has got to go for that. Free arm or not . Edited September 13, 2020 by CYB Quote
Mazer Rackham 14,971 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 So what is it about a sling tackle that makes it problematic? Is is because of the potential to cause head injuries? Why then would this tackle be different? Neale is trying to slam the guy into the ground as hard as he can. Either the head is sacrosanct or it isn't. 1 Quote
low flying Robbo 979 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Looks bad but not enough in it. If he was knocked out it would be different 1 Quote

I agree. My point is that even if it was a sling and even if he was knocked unconscious he still would get off. Not all players are treated equally. Especially if they are outright favourite to win the Brownlow. 2 Quote
Deeminion 412 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Just been through Twitter, Facebook & Instagram this morning and there is not one reporter and only 2 media outlets posts talking about this. The silence is very strange. The media are usually vultures here. One must wonder if there is a directive been sent out here. Or maybe there’s nothing in it. Quote
Brenno 295 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 There is absolutely nothing in it. Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,677 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Give him a $1000 fine for rough play. And move on. But agree it’s one that a lesser player would be worried about. Neale is red hot favourite and probably will win by 6-7 votes Quote
Tony Tea 2,816 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 "Brownlow Medal favourite" - there's your get-out clause right there. 2 1 Quote

Redleg 42,142 Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Not a sling tackle. No concussion. Stayed on the ground. Arms not pinned. Didn't drive his head into the ground, but rather momentum took them both forward. Actually an everyday tackle. Correct decision. 4 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 No sling, but still pretty poor given the ball was out ages ago. Should've been holding the ball, clear prior. Blakey's a little bigger but it's another skinny kid mixing it with the big boys and not doing a good job of protecting himself either. Tacklers, players and umpires all have to do better to prevent nasty tackles. Quote
daisycutter 30,004 Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 (edited) i just wish they'd stop using the term "sling tackle" because the discussion then just devolves into the technicalities of what constitutes a "sling tackle" (i.e. one arm pinned, two arms pinned, double action sling etc) which avoids discussing inherent danger and risk. the issue is simply one of a dangerous tackle which endangers the head, basically where the played is slammed with excessive force to the ground not saying this one was or wasn't but deserved discussion and mro review. i'd probably have given a fine to send a message, because it certainly was on the border Edited September 16, 2020 by daisycutter 1 1 Quote
