It's funny the ol riddler, I jumped on this forum 3/4 years ago at end of season and saw the Riddler and thought to myself, "This is awesome! What a website! What verifiable scoops!'... and then he went AWOL... and here I am, still, bereft of any useful post and preseasons gossip :(

Riddler, if you are still out there under a pseudonym, please re-enage :) after all, it has been a pretty $hite 2020.

I remember waaaay back in the day there was a bloke who hung around these, and other, boards called 'chilli boy'.  He used to spout all sorts of outlandish gossip and some people used to eat it up, even though it was never, ever going to happen.

Those were the days!

That was a ripper thread. His talk about "landing a big fish" had a lot of us thinking of the use of a Gaff to pull one in

Was chilli boy also known as nudge a bit later? Or were they both just rumour posters. I can't remember if they were the same.

They used to make it interesting.

The Riddler was always a clear wannabe compared to these two.

None of their mail was as good as the trade breaker himself though....

Its seems like its either Carlton or Essendon for Saad.

What a pity.

Hope he gets to Carlton so they throw $800k to another B grader

Still plenty to play out, although outside of Bob Murphy, it seems that more people in the media are saying that he will be going elsewhere.

I'd say the tweet I posted above is rubbish from Sheahan and that he has just jumped on board a few other rumours to look as though he is 'in the know'.

This rumour has had more twists and turns than one you would find on Demonland:

They have pulled out the cheque book and hopefully put a hole in there salary cap.

Saad pretty astutely called them out. Ultimately sounds like he wanted the security of a longer term deal. With others already leaving, there was money there, as well as a need to avoid having too many walk out.

or Merrett fingers crossed.?

Bit disappointing that we haven't been mentioned as a club that's right into Saad. Exactly the type of player we need.

Blues adding Saad and Williams will guarantee them a top 8 spot. Two good hard running options that will make an immediate impact straight away.

Take 2 first Draft picks or a wad of cash out of the equation and we’re just not an attractive club for a player or another club to deal with.

$2.75 - $3 million over five years for Saad (in exchange for a first round pick) and $850,000 a year for Williams, they’re all yours Carlton.

That's about 15% of the Blues cap in two half back flankers!

Add in 900K for Martin and big money for McGovern and they will be cap trouble soon.

you dont sell the farm for half backs. unless their game plan is to purely score from counter attacks/HB. they need 2-3 more solid midfielders.

we need to keep cap space for a goal scoring fwd and for our guns (Trac etc) as they come into the big contract years

It might depend on how they set up to play. If they go down the GWS route with Cripps as the bull in the middle, those two guys off the back of the square, they could play a run and gun game.

They feel like they're a year or so behind us, but I don't think they have the midfield. I like their spine though.

Their midfield, outside of Cripps, is pretty poor, and Murphy is pretty close to retiring as well.  Cripps had a relatively average year by his standards and its because the opposition can target him every week and know that there isn't a whole lot else to deal with.

Williams and Saad won't change that.

williams is being brought in by the blues to play midfield alongside cripps

it's a risk as he's never really played the role other than cameos, but andrew russell is one of the best fitness head honchos in football so they're obviously backing themselves in to get williams cherry ripe for the role

Why do you think Saad is worth? Definitely around the range for what is being offered.  As for Williams he will be on a bigger contract year 1 but evens itself out after that.  Don’t get sucked into what the media say, they are just guessing

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
