Lifestyle, Geelong target players that want to live down the coast or a bit in land on farms.  In an article last week GWS took him to a fancy restaurant, the article said he would rather be on boat fishing.

You cant sell against a club that can offer that country/coast lifestyle to players that want it and let's face it after the past 12 months who wouldn't jump at a move to the coast

“I just love fishing mate... fishing for easy flags.”

Look forward to the first time Greene plays off against him.

Free agency is broken and there is no equality. It’s something that used to set AFL a part from rubbish sports like EPL, but now it’s broken and footy has never been worse.

Cats will win flag next year with Cameron up forward.

Free agency is working as intended. This is what the AFLPA wanted.

I have no issue with either Cameron or Geelong here, but the Free Agency thing clearly isn't doing as intended.

They still need to fit him into a salary cap and usually you have to pay a FA overs to bring them in. Other players will need to go out. I really don’t see what the problem is.

It’s good to see a STRUGGLING club like Geelong can land a gun forward to bolster their lineup.

That’s what happens when u play finals consistently and have a good culture and head coach.

Then there’s us.........................FFS Goodwin and co better get their [censored] together next season otherwise we are screwed AGAIN.

I don’t care about Geelong and Cameron. To hell with them.

We’re in good shape but face a critical trade period. Get Brown and Smith. Move TMac on whatever which way we can and bring in Voss as midfield coach. Pay overs if needs be.

The time is now.

RFA - compo would be pick nine.  Watch GWS match and go for two first rounders  - equal to what Geelong got for Tim Kelly.  Geelong have 3 of them. Geelong will have to get a few big contracts off the books to get this done.

The issue is they won’t have to pay overs. A lowly club would have to pay overs to land a star, where as a successful club like Geelong won’t have to - the player will take a pay cut to experience success. It’s happening more and more. These players make so much money that an extra few hundred thousand over a few years is negligible, they’ll just take less cash to experience success. Top clubs are propped up for lengthy periods. The struggling clubs struggle for lengthier periods.

The AFLPA got what they wanted. The game is worse for it.

I don't get the lifestyle argument with living in Geelong or along the coast on that side. Inless having the sun in your eyes both directions when traveling into the city constitutes 'lifestyle' then I hardly get the appeal.

The problem with free agency and the bigger clubs was recognised at least two years ago when Lynch went to the Tigers. Lots of talk then about handicapping the bigger clubs.Cannot recall how it was to be done. It might have been loss of draft picks or similar.

Something needs to change. You’ve got a team playing in the grand final with this seasons Coleman medalist... about to bring in a former Coleman medalist without even needing to use a draft pick.

Meanwhile we pay two first round picks for Jake Lever.

Aggressive, known goal kicker, free agent, will provide another big target inside 50 best mates with Tomlinson.

You'd have to ask the question re getting J Cameron. He'd be worth freeing up in the order of $1 million a season over 4 years as the sort of player that turns a couple of close losses into hard fought wins and then is the difference in finals. I wouldn't offer significant overs, but focus on what he could be part of at Melbourne and if that works, happy times.

Eagles midfield was talked up as close to perfect with the inclusion of Kelly for 2020.

Things don't always end up as the media predicts.

On paper they will look formidable with Hawkins and Cameron but footy isn't played on paper. He'd want to play with greater urgency than he did this season for them to be formidable

Did Geelong do the trade with Gold Coast where they got pick 11 this year for 27 and 64 last year just for this? Conveniently the Suns cannot trade concession picks any more, after Hocking gets his club what they would need.

The pay cut thing isn't universally true. Franklin got a massive contract to go to Sydney, for example.

I think the bigger issue is players coming from weaker clubs (e.g. not necessarily Franklin leaving Hawthorn).

Weaker clubs have to pay the minimum salary cap. Which means they have to spend big money on their good players.

Cameron's been at GWS since the start. He's presumably been well paid for many of those years where GWS were tripe.

If that's right, and he's already cashed up, it's no longer about money, it's about success. Ditto Lynch.

The minimum aspect to the salary cap makes sense, and provides equalisation in some respects, but this is an example of it providing the opposite.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
