Pickett and Bedford are both young lads that need to learn senior footy, and no VFL this year which hurts development.

both are better options than most in our reserves, we went inside fifty 35 times.  and id say that 50% at least gave them no opportunity to apply pressure. if your basing selection on Mon night well there will be 14 changes.

Pickett will be good, he needs to be managed properly, its obvious his body isn't ready for full AFL seasons yet, but that comes down to coaching workloads.  Bedford needs a proper go, he has the skills and the pace. Spargo is an OK selection, but him and Hannon are both the same, they have one great game followed buy 2-3 poor ones. they get a 4-5 week crack, so why not Bedford instead?

this is spot on. everyone is quick to bash them both and call for their heads and refer to the stats but how many games did cyril or charlie cameron get 15+ disposals, A: not many. these two young lads are absolutely passing the eye test better than anyone else we've tried in their spots over the last two years.

In: Bennell

Bennell has the skills and touch we need to score more goals.

If the most unskilled club in the league can't fit in a highly talented (albeit not at peak fitness) player such as Bennell this week, then I suspect that club and player have unofficially parted ways.

The club needs to take a deep breath with selections, stop out smarting themselves and pick a best 22 on paper.

That means:

No Wagners, Bedfords, Bakers or ANB's. They are not good enough to take us anywhere.

No Preuss if Gawn is in the side. I thought Goodwin and Co get paid enough to realise that this hasn't worked in the 5 or 6 times they've played together. This is entry level selection that a 12 year old could see.

Get rid of Joel Smith. We have a 1-4 record when he's in the side and our defence doesn't seem to gel when he's in the side.

Play T Mac who is a professional goal kicker in a team that's crying out for one.

Play Lockhart or Jetta. We have been absolutely destroyed by small forwards this year.

Play Harmes if he's available and give him a big job.

Not fussed at all who they choose to select.

Vs St Kilda we had one of our worst looking teams of the year on paper, last week perhaps worse again.

In the St Kilda game we had a game plan and even with less talent on paper than Saints they stuck to the task and prevailed against all odds. (Thanks May/Petracca) but lesser lights also did what was asked/required of them.

Vs Sydney we expected to beat them and played accordingly.  We did not have a discernable game plan.

Vs Freo we had our worst team of year, on paper anyway.  Against the breeze we got lucky they did not kick straight in 1st qtr or it would have been all over.  It actually took us well into the last quarter before we scrapped the gameplan and went one on one.  Finally the players showed intensity.  We lost by not much.  Had we played man on man all day we would have won by 6 goals.

For this round and next, regardless of selection changes i would just like to see what this team can do man on man, without Simon's gameplan holding them back.  They are fit enough, apparently,    Release the shackles, let them loose.  My gut feeling is our players are not nearly as bad as we are seeing.  The gameplan is [censored] all of them up. New game plan, man on mon, have fun boys, lets end this season in style!

Have our media department [censored] the bed all of a sudden?

Absolutely nothing on how the reserves went or the weekly who's in line for selection article.

Amazing how its not only the players that go missing after a few losses..

Far out, dropping the skipper.   Desperate or ruthless?

Goodwin said our club should be more ruthless.

He need look no further than Leon Cameron to learn what a ruthless coach does.

The ball is in Goodwin's court to set the example of MFC ruthlessness, altho I fear it is too late to pull this season out of the fire.

Sends a clear message.  I would expect their whole team to come out breathing fire this week.

We choose not to drop Tom Mc for a season and a half, Melksham should have been dropped many times this year.  We tried to send a message last week by making 7 changes but did not drop the guys who deserved to be dropped.  Brayshaw/Harmes to name a few more of players that should have clearly been dropped at stages.

Cameron has sent out a wake up call and no one is safe.  Simon does not seem to have the balls to drop anyone but fringe players.  They might just roll us by 10 goals this week with bit of extra fire in the belly.  I would prefer they did not drop Coniglio.

This is a club or coach being ruthless.  No player is above the club.  Good luck Demons, come out ready for war!

Don't forget Morris also came out before GWS played Brisbane telling everyone that Cogs was dropped, he then was best on ground for them with 27 odd touches, maybe GWS feed Morris false info to fire him and their team up. I believe he's out when it's on the team sheet and he's not an emergency.

Which would be ridiculous.. guarantee if we let him go another side will grab him, Surely we will thought it might take a year to get confidence in his body. I would hope they give him another year and a pre season that is working on fitness and not rehabilitation.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
