I had the misfortune of only being in Australia for the Richmond ANZAC eve loss and the following Hawthorn loss in 2018. Far and away our worst H&A losses for the the year. I can’t tell you the last actual win I have seen, I was in Melbourne to see the pre-season win against Adelaide this year.

On that Hawthorn loss in 2018, I believe (I could be wrong) that the club had a bout of gastro go through the playing group. They killed it in the 1st quarter but were completely bereft of energy after that.

I’m hoping to be around in Australia next year for the season, watch us return to a bottom 4, 5 wins or less team again. ☹️

I had 3 years overseas and came back to this for my first game.

I thought Reiwoldt had a lucky game

I thought Brad Miller was the new prototype forward.... heh heh heh.

I missed the 2004 - 2007 seasons entirely. Reading about our wild 2006 in week-old newspapers was still a little bit exciting. Gained access again in 2008. Perfect timing.

I'd go one further. What about our round 22 win vs Brisbane in 2017. 40 points up during the 4th qtr, took the foot off and allowed them to get within a kick before kicking the sealer. We then consequently lose to Collingwood and miss the 8 by .49%

My G.d you've missed the No 1

that's the 2018 Prelim Final.

Please don't  say you don't count it just like the Coach  and no review ??

Home and away losses. I agree the prelim is the worst defeat overall but it did come on the back of 2 phenomenal finals at the 'G

That in itself is part of our problem Consistent effort.

Admittedly we won 4 games in a row vs top opposition viz

Eagles away

Giants home

Cats elimination home

Hawks Semi home

but our last few games from Saints  loss was an inexcusable fade out to Cats st KP by 3 points

AND another embarrassing loss to Swans as our "system" fails to shine vs this Club ( as it had for 15 years!

About 2005 we were equal to bout 90 wins each and the last 25 meetings has netted about 3/4 wins mostly because the Swans  play a Systematic and honest brand of footy.

We vary and get tied up on their terms and have no Plan B to counteract.

Itd hurting us like we couldn't play Hawks for a long time.

We need to have a An AAnd a variation to play against some teams to give us an equal chance of victory.

I hate Trump with a passion, but one of his commonly used phrases sums up this thread "What a bunch of LOOoooSers".

Go on look to the past and wither in misery.

To me yes Thursday was disappointing, but far from totally disastrous.  I don't think we needed to win 5 from 5 to make finals.  Actually thought we were a 40/60 against the Saints and we got up, so we were actually ahead of the game somewhat.  It now just means we need to win 2, most probably 3 of our last 4 to make finals.

In my mind, GWS is the 8 point, must win game.  Further Sydney actually beat GWS a few weeks back, so should they just roll out the white flag as well?

While I'm annoyed about loosing to Sydney, it's not our season has hung off, so get over it.

I’m happy to hear some constructive comments but labelling people losers is just juvenile.

More juvenile than trying to rank the losses we have had under a particular coach.

Sorry, I was mistaken that this was actually a constructive thread.

How's this for a constructive comment then - STOP CRYING OVER SPILT MILK.

It's classic Melbourne to start a thread highlighting our recent losses under Goodwin.

What did you aim to achieve?

That was under Roos. Who we farewelled a week later with a 20 goal loss. Classic stuff.

I do rate this highly as a disappointing defeat though. I ended the afternoon by going the full Richmond on the Gold Coast with a chair in the Ponsford Stand.

Ah yes I forgot we were focusing on the Goodwin era.

Round 23, 2017 surely takes the cake.

What’s wrong with ranking losses? Where is the policy that says talking about losses is taboo? You’re free to give your opinion and I’m free to give mine.  Keep the name calling to yourself and in return I’ll keep it civil.

The point was to start a discussion. Have a debate, pass the time. That’s usually the point of fan forums. Unfortunately you get people who take on the role of moral arbiter or enforcer, who believe they know better than everyone else and try to get people to conform. People like you who talk about some “Melbourne Way”. All due respect Wiseblood, I don't have to explain to you or anyone why i make a comment. If you don’t like the thread don’t comment.

Yep. it was a beauty.

If F__king up was a Science then Goodwin would be in line for the Nobel Prize.

Bugger you guys.

Top five wins:

Elimination Final over Geelong.  Loved every minute.

Semi Final over the Hawks.  Just as sweet.

Rd 22 vs the Eagles in Perth.  Securing finals.

2017 Queens Birthday win against the Pies.  Watts kicks the sealer.

2017 win over the Eagles.  Tom Mac kicks the sealer.

Best thing ive read on Demonland for a long time - thank you

Why stop at five?

1. Round 23, 2017 vs Collingwood for obvious reasons

2. Round 2, 2019 vs Geelong - confirmation of everything I was worried about after the pre-season

3. Round 21, 2018 vs Sydney - had finals in our grasp and botched it. Fortunately wiped out by heroics the next week

4. Round 15, 2018 vs St Kilda - caving against a lowly team when there were serious finals implications

5. Round 4, 2018 vs Hawthorn - mitigated somewhat by belting a heap of sides a few weeks later

6. Round 19, 2017 vs North when we had a roaring wind in the last quarter and couldn't overturn a six point deficit.

7. Round 9, 2020 vs Port

8. Round 15, 2020 vs Sydney

9. Round 22, 2019 vs Sydney - a stench of death classic

10. Round 4, 2017 vs Freo - the day Cam McCarthy gave us the full Kingsley

Time for an update......

On top of my head

Collingwood 2017

Sydney 2018

Geelong 2018

Freo 2020

SYDNEY 2020

That's even before the flag.

  1. Vs Carlton, 2023 Semi

  2. Vs St Kilda, Round 20 2025

  3. Vs Collingwood, Round 23 2017

  4. Vs West Coast, Round 10 2024

  5. Vs North, Round 2 2025

Honourable mentions:

Vs Collingwood, 2023 QF

Vs Brisbane, 2022 Semi

Vs West Coast, 2018 Prelim

Vs Freo, Round 11 2022

Vs Freo, Round 12 2024

What a rubbish topic x2

Ditto JR what is this thread hoping to achieve aside from casting the net of negativity across the whole club? Forgetting all the magnificent wins we have enjoyed from 2016 when we finally started to emerge from the mire and from 2020 to mid 2024 when we were serious contenders.

If it's just H&A

  1. Round 20 2025 vs Saints (most embarrassing loss in my time)

  2. Round 23 2017 vs Pies

  3. Round 19 2018 vs Cats (The Tuohy goal after the siren)

  4. Round 12 2024 vs Freo (The massacre in Alice that started it all)

  5. Round 2 2025 vs North

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
