1 posession in the first half against the worst team in the afl on form. "but but but but but it's his pressure" lol

See someone. Help is available.

Had the crucial involvement in at least 2 goals

- the left foot kick to Hunt
- a handball out to space for another of the running goals

Don't worry about the stats, when we get a midfield with vision and reliable contested forwards he'll be right as rain.

if you put me on the ground for 2 hours I'm sure I'd do something also.

When you get to the point where you remember one or two pieces of play that's when you know they've been quiet.

Don’t know about you guys but I am hoping Serong tears it apart tomorrow and rips Bulldogs a new one like he did to us.

Playing half forward, you wouldn't get near it.

For 3/4's Essendon couldn't get a touch in the corridor. They were forced wide and slow. Koz was a huge part of that, whilst creating goals and unrewarded running. Look at the Tracc kick to Oliver in the centre where he stupidly played on and get caught holding - Pickett's streaming through half forward in a mile of space.

The focus on possessions is missing all the good he does.

I really don’t understand what more people want Pickett to do as a 19 year old playing a difficult, very reliant role, in arguably the least consistent forward line in the comp.

Rankine plays a similar role, went MUCH higher in the draft, is a year older, and has been very inconsistent in his first year.

Give him another preseason and some more time to understand what his team mates are going to do ball in hand, and he could be anything.

And, for the record, if the alternative was an inside midfielder then that’s the last thing we need.

He is there to kick goals and create forward pressure.  He hasn't had 1 chase down tackle all year has he. Or are you satisfied with the illusion of pressure without actually laying any tackles?

and his goal kicking skills have been pretty [censored] so far anyway. I'd like to see more skills from him.

I started a whole thread on 'Pickett's statless high light reel' but it is definitely an issue just how little he is getting the ball.  He was pretty unlucky several times today with people kicking to him over, wide and short and when he was outnumbered by taller opponents.

I feel a little bit like we've recruited a small forward and we're trying to fit them into a medium forward role.

All that frantic energy is getting dissipated around the ground instead of being turned into that handful of moments of something from nothing that clearly Pickett is destined for.  Five years from now, with experience and fitness, he can wander the ground with composure and poise, but it is mistake to expect him to be so much now when we actually have a real, current, need for him to be the kid he is.

I thought he had a very good chase down tackle today. The days of Aaron Davey style 30m run downs are largely over. It's going from opponent to opponent in tight, without over pursuing that is important and he's looked as good as anyone.

The ability to tap the ball on, gather and hit up Hunt on his left was sublime skill.

In front of goal he's been dreadful. 7 goals 13 that should be at least 10 goals 10 even with missing some easy ones.

But Pickett's so often sprinting in with the kick from a half forward position and we love putting multiple talls or marking targets like Fritsch deep so we can not be out marked. We could go to have Pickett at the feet of Weid and he'd kick more goals. Or we could find kicks capable of hitting up the half forwards inside 50 rather than always going deep as well. There's a lot of ways to get his goals up that aren't his fault.

Yes, you look happy.

And that something would be standing next to your opponent and whinging for the entire afternoon.

Well at least we all know where Kozzy is living rent-free

give the kid a break, first year playing senior football away from home, very keen to make his mark and kick goals. He gets the ball and is rushing his kicking but he will get better in time. 7goals 13 points is twenty shots on goal and a few score assists as well.  He could easily double that number of shots on goal in the next couple of years.

Considering your tiresome campaign this season against anyone who dared question Oliver's place in the side, I would hope you take some of your own advice and front up when the penny drops and you realise you are wrong re Pickett and the value he adds.

I won't be holding my breath.

This is such nonsense.  What you'd do is you'd shut yourself.  And all of us can remember pieces of play from Petracca, for example, from games right through the year.  Some of those games, just one piece of play, if that's what you meant to be saying.

Do you really think that "chase down tackles" are a good measure of his performance?

A chase down tackle occurs when an opposition has the ball in space and is caught unaware without talk from his team mates. If that happens once a game it looks spectacular.

"Perceived" pressure is crazy important. Rushed disposals and decisions, turnovers, creating opportunities for others to tackle and disposess.

Yep, the next Rhys Palmer

The award means little. Rowell is clearly the biggest rising star in the game

Serong is a very handy player and just looks like a natural footballer. Can't say I'm too upset with pickett and rivers though, both will be fantastic players if they work their asses off. Both have great talent but are quite raw

I admittedly can’t be bothered trailing through the thread to get the explanation, we traded Pickett for our future 1st rounder (ie upcoming first rounder) didn’t we?

Well there you have it. Hogan named Rising Star (ahead of Cripps) for 2015.

We traded pick 8 (Serong) to Freo for pick 10 (Pickett) and Pick 32 (Rivers)

Difference here is that Cripps still got votes

Cheers, for me since we got both Rivers and Pickett I’m pretty comfortable with the trade. Pickett’s biggest issue for me is his finishing, got himself into good spots plenty of times but failed to put it through the big sticks.

Are Jackson, Rivers & Pickett still eligible next year?

Jackson and Rivers are but Pickett isn’t.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
