Would be a great get, would really compliment our side. Redleg was strongly calling for this a couple of years ago, if only the club saw it then, we'd have gotten him for a packet of Skittles back then.

Yes please.

Mobile, athletic, and a strong mark.

Played his first season as a defender, then went forward last year and kicked 44 goals.

Can also pinch hit in the ruck.

Massive upgrade on TMac

T Mac is contracted until end of 2022 on $600k plus (I guess). On a trade we might get some club willing to pay $300k.

That would make the net cost of contracting Finlayson around $800k minimum.

We have to get TMac back into some kind of form. In the meantime forget Finlayson (remarkably similar trajectory to TMac)

Viney for Saad is more realistic... Could even end up with change

T Mac is a real worry especially with the contract you mentioned. Needs to drop kg's and find some sort of mobility because he just looks so sapped of confidence and ability at the moment. Would much rather a 24 yr old on the same trajectory. He's had a down year Jeremy but he's also only kicked three goals less then Weid (15-18) for the season and is clearly not the number one option. I agree I don't think its realistic but would love to have him if the opportunity arose.

Where have you heard about Saad being available or wanting to leave? I thought he would be in Essendons top 5 most important players...

Saad has still not signed a contract. My guess it's a money/term issue

Isn't a true KPF.

Would be replacing Melksham as the lead up half forward with a good kick, but I think the way we play with speed and direct movement probably doesn't make that such an important role. We already have Fritsch as a medium forward and when Hannan is in form he's good in that role too. Plus Petracca should always be spending time close to goal.

As much as it would be nice to replace Melksham with a taller, faster, younger version I think it's probably not a high priority.

Finlayson - 196cm, 93kg.

Melksham - 185cm, 75kg.

Not sure if someone else has heat maps, but anecdotally Melksham spends most of his time 40-75 out, Finlayson not often beyond 45. Don't really agree they play in a similar way or fill similar roles.

Sheedy always said "you need a couple of cowboys in your side". I reckon Finyalson could be that for us in the forward line and would make Weid, Jacko, Fritsch etc walk taller. Obviously for the right price, wouldn't be putting a premium on him.

No for me forward line too tall. Jackson and Weideman are the way to go.

Why would he make them walk taller???

...hardly the enforcer type.

Didn't use the word enforcer, used the word cowboy.

Reckon he has a bit of mongrel about him. Showed that in the finals last year (aside from the GF where he was woeful).

We need more than two good key fwds. they are often injured.  So Weed and Jackson are not enough, esp as Jackson is a ruck option

I'd be keen esp as he is mobile

Height isn't really all that relevant. Melksham plays above his height as a strong mark when given space. Finlayson doesn't play to his height.

Melksham 3.3 marks, Finlayson 2.5
Melksham 1.1 M Inside 50, Finlayson 1.3

You're right that Melk is probably 35-70 on the heat maps, I checked on the AFL App. Finlayson a fair bit around that, plus more around the ground from rucking, and a little more deeper. Jeremy Cameron playing so much as a lead up CHF means Finlayson was often deeper but his best position is surely using his running and skills up the ground, he's not a contested marker. 0.7 contested marks per game. Weid, Fritsch and Jackson are more dangerous deep, if we added another tall to that mix it would be a guy who gets up to the wings.

He likes to play for free kicks and he likes doing silly things like patting blokes on the head or giving them a push and shove.

I don't think players like that do anything more than eventually grate on their team mates. We had Tommy Bugg who was an all time pest like that and it meant little when he couldn't get a kick.

If you're Toby Greene it's great, but he backs it up with play that lifts a side.

Weid and Jacko will suffice. Invest in speedsters.

We definitely need another forward.  I think Finlayson would compliment our forwards perfectly.

Don't mind it, depending on the cost. 3rd round or pick swaps. He's the 3rd tall getting 3rd defender. Gotta think years in advance.

I'd expect Jackson to play more onball as he gets more mature. Wouldn't mind seeing Jacko swapping with Gawn out of the goal square. 60/40 split.

Finlayson is 24 and a left footer. The one thing I like about him is his accuracy. Kicks far more goals than points.

My forward line in 2022, could use another tall.

Pickett Weid Bedford

Bennell Jackson Fritsch

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
