gary buckenera on polec's value:

Polec is an interesting situation. He’s on a good contract so that complicates things. If I was list manager I would want to keep him. But if Rhyce Shaw wants him out and a club is willing to pay his whole wage, then the Kangaroos will basically trade him for nothing. In other words, a salary dump. If the Kangaroos still pay some of his wage, then a pick around 40 would be a decent deal. This is how poor list decisions hurt.

This may be why we are happy to move Preuss on for relatively little, instead of driving a bargain. It becomes Preuss + 40 for Polac + 39 + the salary.

If North are getting rid of Polec because of salary cap issues they are in SERIOUS trouble. I assume their list manager has been sacked by now

Another not quite right, like Brown why after 12 months do North want him out. Both players have big dollar contracts You would think the only North will get rid of them is if they pay part of their salaries. A bit like when We wanted Watts out.

North is toxic at the moment.  We are in a position to benefit from a fire sale with him and possibly Brown. They are not wanted anyway. Opportunities like these rarely occur in AFL when it's because a club is imploding. I assume we are doing due diligence (quickly) and hope we're not inventing reasons to not pursue.

Best of luck to Rhyce Shaw. Thought his last few media performances showed very alarming signs. Copped a bit of criticism too, form those who should've known better given their closeness to Danny Frawley...

Where have we indicated Preuss will be traded for "relatively little"?

Hopefully not let's get a player or high 3 or low2 fir him.

Why should we roll over on Pruess? He is a desired ruckman with 2 years to go on his deal, why would we settle for F all?

Sorry, I wasn't saying we had said that. I was saying it's why we might be happy to do so.

We could drive a real hard bargain based on 2 year contract and get nowhere. If we were demanding more than anyone would offer, then this wouldnt be public.

So it is possible that we decided to accept a more reasonable compensation to make sure he moves, so that we can improve our overall list position.

If Preuss leaving for a slightly lower pick than we think he is worth allows us to improve ourlist position overall, then why would we play hardball on principal and miss out?

North need to go for a hard rebuild so they need to get rid of players that are not a culture fit and/or can give them early picks.

They've got Cunnington, Ziebel, Goldstein and Tarrant so they are not lacking mature leaders.

It's the mother of black holes, but they have some promising youth. It's going to be a tough grind at a bad time to be down.

Seems North have addressed the rumours on Rhyce Shaw that have been eluded to in the thread

"We have been acutely aware of speculation regarding our head coach, but we have not been in a position to say anything as we are respecting the wishes of Rhyce and his family. Rhyce has asked for some time and space away from football and we have provided him support during this period. We thank the media for their ongoing cooperation and trust they understand we can’t make further comment at this time."

And nor should he. North are in for a world of hurt these next few years, and whatever mental ailments Rhyce has, the stress of being head coach would no doubt exacerbate such problems.

They replaced their list manager late November 2019, Glenn Luff is now their list manager, he was high up at Champion Data.

LOL at Polec being dropped after Round 8... where he received Brownlow votes!

From 12 September 2019, our old mate Barry was around the traps at the time!:

The Roos have also said they will part ways with list manager Michael McMahon, and other recruiting staff in Barry Prendergast and Nick Byrne will also depart.

16 contests possessions (most of anyone on the ground) and 6 tackles would suggest he worked harder than most others and wasn't kick chasing. He was sent to play on Cripps and absolutely smashed him (25 disposals (16 contested) and a goal vs 16 disposals (8 contested)). The point is Polec was held to different standards at North for whatever reason and made into a scapegoat. He was dropped for a performance that was so good the umpires gave him votes in a losing side.

I'd have him in red and blue as he'd improve us on-field and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Those things aren't mutually exclusive. You can win contested possessions whilst also costing your team defensively.

Ah no worries. I'll see myself out then!

Couldnt agree more. Should have finished his career at North but was no doubt sold a now atrocious plan for the club and has been unfairly made to shoulder some of the onfield blame. Polec is never going to be the balanced defensive player on the wing, but somebody who can actually kick and hit them through the big sticks goes a long way to improving our list.

Don't think he ends up at the Dees due to his salary, but I think the knocks on his behaviour are way off the mark. Understandable to make those assumptions given he's looking at a 4th club, however went to Port from Brissy to live back in SA. Was lured out of Port as they didnt want to pay him a larger contract, and his move to the roos just hasnt worked due the monumental amount of issues that surround that club.

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
