For the last four days every time someone said Preuss my brain went 'former North player, now a back-up only here, can't get a game, but expect to get a good effort from him' and gave me the result 'Pederson'. All this time I've been wondering 'why do people think Pederson can out-body Grundy?'  I was also really shocked to discover the ol' Pedo is just 25.

Meanwhile, I've been looking over the teams sheets and it seems to me Collingwood have an amazing number of players in that 189-192cm height range, across all lines.  The Bate-Dunn-Newton black hole of yesteryear. It is as if they are just trying to bring in a army of Pendlebury-clones, but it just isn't working.

Would have loved to see Jackson out there, mostly up forward, because he's got a significant height advantage over most oft heir defenders and a massive agility advantage over Moore.  Thinking of that, don't be surprised if Preuss spends a lot of time plonked forward to force them to put Moore on him, while McDonald goes to ruck-tagging Grundy and Weideman gets given maximum space to lead out while Fritsch does his long-pocket leads.

They've got nobody who can handle Pickett, too.  John Noble?

Im calling this the season defining and maybe Coach defining MFC BLOWTORCH DAY

In order of importance the heat is on the following

1 Blowtorch ... Every single player brings a 4 quarter effort, plays their role and importantly we don't waste opportunities by kicking points instead of goals. Weeds must kick crunch goals and so too Fritsch, who misses some easy ones as well.

2 Blowtorches ... The following players who MUST lift... Melksham, Jones , Vanders, Harmes, Spargo, T Mac, ( yep get that they both  played well last week ) but must sustain it, 

3 Blowtorches ... Goody, . Two wins against meek opposition will mean jack sheeeet if he can't manufacture a win and get his matchups right and win a game against a tired Collingwood with some good players out. Very good  teams cover champion players like Max, so time to step up.

I'm surprised the Pies are favourites here. It was evens until the sides were announced so I guess Gawn/Jacko out and their cast of ins swings it in their favour

I was hoping to back them at over $2 to at least make some money if we lose, we should win this one but everyone knows how that goes with us.

Pendles is a handy in but is he 100% ? In any case our midfield is hot atm and will give the filth plenty to worry about in itself.

Once again, clean and considered entry to our forwards will be key.  Hopefully Spargo will play have a repeat role in that. That, along with Tmac raising a gallop and finding some form would seal the deal.

My great hope would be that the  " grandson of a Collingwood legend" kicks a big bag and makes Eddie weep.

What I want to see is a real 4 quarter crack, nothing like the Port effort. If we do the result will take care of itself.

Get the ball into the hands of Pickett and Spargo up around half forward and we will get some quality ball inside 50.

Weather will be fine I think. Forecast had been showers all day with a storm later in the arvo. But we only had a bit of rain this morning, and it looks like we might get that little storm now. And then it should be dry the rest of the day.

I’m all chips in emotionally today for a Dees win. High risk, high reward. 
This year was going to be my 5yo girls’ first real game at the G; for obvious reasons this won’t happen. So I’ve earmarked today’s high-stakes match against the Filth as our ‘going to the footy day’. Shortly we will construct the ‘Demons Train’ out of 3 cardboard boxes to emulate catching the train to Jolimont. The girls have their footy jumpers on already and colour coordinated outfits. They even made little scarves out of tissue ribbons for their cuddly toys. 
My darling partner, who had no interest in footy, will be the ‘pie lady’, kindly providing home made beef & mushroom pies and pork & sage sausage rolls for dinner at half time. Bless. 
The kids are blindly confident, nothing less than victory could create emotional turmoil right on bed time. Or elation. I am confident, not blindly, rather knowing that we have the goods to win today and I’ll tuck the girls in tonight with a smile knowing we’ve beaten the Old Enemy! 
 

My emotional contingency in the event of defeat will be the comfort of pies and snag rolls in my tummy! 
 

PS: my old man (Grandpa) is a Filth supporter, adding to the pressure...

Maynard and Crisp.  Sounds like two cops from a 1970s detective series like Starsky and Hutch. 
 

They are key players in the Pies backline.  They are both in my fantasy footy team and score highly.  They are both tough and hard to be beaten. Maynard especially loves the physical stuff. They are very skilled plus they are good at defensive rebounds with their kicking efficiency and metres gained being very high.  But one thing is that they always kick in their preferred left boot. They never use their right, indeed like most left footers they’d feather run or baulk to get in their left. 
 

Goodwin will need to consider how we score from our midsized forwards.  Maynard on Fritsch. Crisp on Melksham.  I’d love to see Vandenburg used on Crisp (or Maynard) as a defensive type forward to stop his 20 possessions and high rebound game.

I'd play Melksham and Viney on both of them. Make them accountable. I reckon Maynard is a bit of a faux tough guy and if you pressure him with ball in hand, he'll turn it over.
