Will need to win all three from here to give us a chance, cant seeing us passing the giants. Season all over.

Praying there is a performance clause which allows us to sack goody for two consecutive [censored] seasons the guy is [censored] clueless.

Even if we win our last 3 including beating the Giants, we still need to finish with a higher % than them and they play Adelaide next week and could easily pick up 15-20% there.

Damn it all to hell.

Lol... They would literally need to win 164-0 to "easily pick up 20%"

If we get to 10 we might pass Collingwood (who will need to beat either Port or Brisbane to get to 10) or St Kilda (who will need to beat either West Coast or GWS).

10 should get us finals. 9 almost certainly won't.

Either way.... No chance we are winning all three.

Either way its not worth being embarrassed week 1 of the finals and papering over coaching and list cracks in this club , I think making finals we’ll be far too easily satisfied just like the players

If we can't beat that Swans team we don't deserve to play finals.

time to have a look at the reasons why our list isn't playing anywhere near it's potential and why the gap between our best and worst is wider than any other team in the comp

and why we're still dealing with the same issues we were in 2017

Yes there is a good argument that making finals and being bundled out would be counter productive with this playing group who seem too content with the odd win and good performce only to trash the good work and praise a few games later with a cruising, lacklustre performance when the heat is on. Too easily satisfied with their efforts, where is the leadership demanding a higher level of performance?

Agreed.

Finishing 9th and 10th will give this mob a bit of fire in the belly. At least this year we were motivated enough to jump up the ladder a fair bit which is something to hold our hats on. But as you said, we're too far easily satisfied and get way ahead of ourselves.

We can somehow make finals with 9 wins if Saints cop beltings to West Coast and GWS and have a narrow win over Hawthorn, meanwhile we have big wins over Freo and Essendon. And ofcourse Dogs don't beat WC on Sunday. But it's a massive long shot.

Last night stuffed our season and confirmed that we're not a finals side. End of story.

Unsure whether we can take the next step next year under Goodwin.

Yesterday we virtually had a double chance of making the 8 as 7th and 8th spots were up for grabs.   Now we will most likely be 9th.

Had we won we would now be 7th ahead of the Saints on %.  By losing we have virtually handed one of those spots to the Saints or the Giants who are a game and % ahead of us.

Now there is one spot available, probably 8th.  We can still get there but I expect Saints and Giants to take 7th and 8th.

That loss did untold damage to our finals hope and how far we might go in the finals.  Make it to 8th and we meet Eagles or Tigers in the first Elim.  A win would have probably got us to 7th thereby playing Pies in the first final.

Yes, this is all conjecture but we coughed up a double chance of making the 8 and winning a final.

Heartbreaking.

Had a dream last night that we won the next two but lost to the bombers and held 7th spot going into the final round. We are jumping for joy as a club because GWS are in 9th saints are in 8th and they play each other in the final game of the season.... The club sends out purchasing finals tickets information a day prematurely as the saints and giants play in a draw in the final game of the home and away season, both surpassing us in points knocking us out.

That would be the most Melbourne thing ever....

We are still a shadow of the team we were in 2018 and will only be making up the numbers if we fall in.

The only chance is to find that fire and fierce desire again.

Wasn't finals a non-negotiable for Goody, as part of the plan?

I still think we CAN make the finals, as we have the talent and CAN play, when we want to, but given our spotty record over the last million years I almost don't want us to, as I vividly remember the last finals game we technically attended.

If we don't make finals, is that it for Goody?

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
