Granted there's not bad ideas in brainstorming, but if there was... this'd be it.

He doesn't have the temperament to coach.
Coaching is an obsession and vocation.  They sacrifice so much and Garry has never been interested in any way shape or form to make those lifestyle sacrifices.  Which is fair enough, not many would be willing to do that (including me).

He has also been out of the game for a very, very long time.  Outside of the International Rules Series, he hasn't been involved in a coaching capacity at any level (as far as I'm aware.). It is a completely different sport and world to the one he working in 22 years ago.

That is so right SWYL    Sheedy would have been  good not just for the players also helping to pick certain kind of footballers in the Drafts.

He had something to offer.

Unfortunately Garry didn't like him otherwise we had him I believe....... Just for a few years would have done,  

 We would have picked some better and tougher players .  

I'll always defend Garry and I don't have the hatred for him that many MFC fans have for 'destroying' our club but I don't agree that he is the man to take us to the promised land and honestly I don't think he would be keen.

We have had numerous opportunities over the years, but appointing First Time Coaches is easier, and they behave themselves

Lyon then spoke to Malthouse. Mick had already confirmed that he was taking time off coaching (this was in 2011 after he finished up at the pies) and instead was looking at going into the media. It was there that Malthouse Apparently gave a glowing and raving endorsement about one of his young and up and coming assistant coaches in Mark Neeld.

After the Dees missed out on their targeted experience men, they then changed their direction and interviewed the likes of Brendan McCartney, Alan Richardson and Mark Neeld.

The rest is history as they say. 

All I will say is Garry Lyon tried what every melbourne supporter wanted at the time and that was go for the experienced coach we needed. Unfortunately we just ran out of options it seems. I dont blame Garry for the Neeld [censored] up. 

My mail Dazzle is Garry never actually spoke to Ross  he did all the talking with Ned Kelly who was trying to negotiate an extension with St Kilda.

Ned was blindsided by Ross and I believe Garry's approach to Ned was just before Lyon had started seriously talking to Freo

Yeah it could be the case @Pennant St Dee. It's obvious though that Ross was doing all this without even his own management knowing.

Another obvious thing was that Ross Lyon was definitely on the list of high priority. Makes you wonder if we had snagged one of Clarkson or Lyon at the time what our club would look like know.

So many what ifs.

Really feel for you all back in Victoria at this time,  when the team performs like that.

At least I have my boys both playing juniors on Sundays and we can go and watch Ammos games every Saturday.

Although tonight’s performance is as Garry says, he will forever be remembered for bringing in Neeld. To begin a complete deestroyation of the MFC. That’s some sort of legacy, Garry.

Pathetic from the Demon Army. Absolutely pathetic. Why make it personal if you agree with his comments in this situation? It just smacks of settling old scores.

And the time before that it was the late Dean Bailey (R.I.P.) over Kevin Sheedy.  Albeit he wasn't the only one making the decision it was this group think decision that ultimately then lead to the Mark Neeld decision.

It wasn't Jimmy's position to ask for help.

I actually blame the board for the position we found ourselves in.

Jimmy should not have held the Presidency when ill and they should never have allowed him to bring Garry in.

It should never have come to this.

As for CS and the rest, well that was the old boys club at work.

Garry was key to this as he was key to Bailey's sacking...don't think he wasn't wielding influence not only in the media but behind the scenes.

As for him coaching.

Give me a break...he can sit in the media and throw the odd grenade.

Hes a media man and always has been since he retired from footy.     Great player though. Too bad his back gave out when he was at his peak, would have kicked 600+ career goals if not for that.

I'm not sure he would be the answer. Maybe but I reckon we lack ruthlessness in all areas. That's why we have been so shizen for so long!

no way we get him , PLEASE NO , Garry is all about Garry , everything he has done to help MFC has gone backwards, do not get him to help even pick a coach , let alone coach.  i could honestly say I would leave the MFC, and thats saying something , Ive been here for 50 odd years and came close but always loved and been somehow involved, its in my blood and always drawn me back! sick I know.

Whoever writes tweets are never held to account. We don't even know who wrote this. It could have been a 15 year old with no idea. Just had a few spare moments to vent some poison. Who's in charge of that account? They should be ashamed.

The people who run the Dee Army are fantastic people who put in an incredible amount of time, effort and money into what they do. They, and some of the more 'senior' cheer squad members, are among the most 'salt of the Earth' type supporters you could meet and from what I know would not be happy with this kind of thing.

In saying that, some of the younger members have shown some appalling behaviour online and I would not be surprised at all if it was one of them who is either in charge of the twitter or posted that specific tweet. Very surprised it's still up.

Yes, in no way was I criticizing the cheer squad members who do a fantastic job. All respect to them. It's this social media aspect which always seems to get out of hand and ends up being negative and harmful instead of fun.
