I've always been a 'no changes'  kinda guy when you're winning.

With Jackson playing a really good "second ruck/forward" game the argument shouldn't be TMac for Jackson imho.  Jackson must stay as his round the ground work was solid and we need to keep his confidence riding high.  I'm very excited by him as a prospect but wasn't overly excited by selecting him last week thinking Brown deserved a chance.  My thinking was he's still too raw but he definitely proved me wrong!  Good lad.

If TMac gets in, it would only be for the Weid as a permanent forward.  Pretty easy decision as the Weid was great on the weekend and produced a far better game than 90% of TMacs last 18 months.

Can't see us playing all 3 so Tommy can run around in the midday show until his form forces selection.

Last time against the Lions I'm fairly certain May took Cameron and gave him a bit of a touch up.  Has the speed and plenty of physicality.  Certain this will happen again.

Lockhart will stay in, he's a work in progress but is tracking fine.

Milkshake isn't getting much of it, but I still think 10 of his touches are more dangerous then a couple more which say ANB/Jones/Sparrow might get.  As much as a I love AVB, he really needs to improve his kicking as it's horrendous at times.

Could Harmes go to Raynor? or does he go to McCluggage? I think Hibbo could match up well with Raynor though.

I'd guess Brayshaw does a soft tag on McCluggage, maybe they back others to come accross and support vs Raynor

Brayshaw out, sparrow in

James Jordon for mine is a much more like for like compared to Brayshaw / His Position.

Tom Sparrow is a small forward, Jordon is an inside/outside midfielder and I think he provides exactly what we're expecting Brayshaw to deliver, but isn't. Jordon was having good game after good game last year in the VFL.

Only change I would make is;

Out: Jackson
In: T-Mac

Purely for the maturity and bigger body.

IF there is to be a change it would be Melksham out and TMac in at CHF.  Play Jackson on the wing as a talk link up ala Nick Riewoldt/Richo. He has the athleticism. Can also give Maxy a chop out in the ruck.

Small / Medium forward.
He may play some midfield time, but he predominantly plays forward in the VFL and both senior games his played, he was forward with minimal chop out in the middle, his first goal was in the goal square against Port in the 1st quarter.

I wouldn't have thought Jackson would have the tank to play on the wing. I'd rather play him alongside Weideman deep forward and play Tom McDonald at CHF. One of Pickett, Bennell or vandenBerg has a rest for a week, probably Pickett, unless the sports science guys have some measurements we don't see which make it more obvious which one needs a rest prior to what we keep hearing will be a packed upcoming program. If it's vandenBerg, maybe Harmes plays on the wing which vandenBerg was sharing with others against the Hawks, and tries to keep McLuggage quiet at the same time.

Brisbane's wins have all been at the Gabba, which this game aint.

Don't forget that Brisbane play 2 genuine Rucks. Stef Martin and Oscar McInerney. So if we go Tmac for Jackson we have Tmac rucking against a much taller opponent. I also think:

  • Tmac was showing better signs against Gold coast before injured early (hes better used as the leading forward whose endurance can hurt the opposition (and it appears Weid is a lot better as the goal square quick lead out forward),
  • I think Jackson will lose in the ruck against McInerney, but can negate that by being better after the ball hits the ground,
  • I agree that Angus is hurting us playing on a wing and this week the coaches may tag Neale with Harmes. If they chose to do that, then that means that another mid has to move out of our normal rotation and i can't see Angus playing
  • I also wondered if Melksham is injured/carrying something? he looks slow/unable to move like normal (he still did his bullet kick, but i wonder if something is up with his body - maybe just been quieter of late).

I'd be happy with no changes, but could understand one change. I can't see Jones getting back in unless we get injuries.

No change for me, specifically I'd leave Tmac out. I think Weid was more effective as the main target this week than tmac has been all year and Jackson is more effective as a 2nd ruck and for a big guy does a lot of pressure acts when he doesn't have the ball in hand, i noticed quite a few times Gawn stayed back for the intercept mark while Jackson rucked in the fwd line. While they are both playing well I'm happy to wait and let Tmac push his way back in as I dont think there is room for him without one going out

I’m shirking selection this week. Who comes out for TMac is too hard a decision. It would be a very brave decision not to select him. I think he is going to be in.

Make no mistake though, the TMac question is the only one being asked. Melksham and Brayshaw aren’t going to be dropped for Jones or any of the kids, those suggestions are just laughable. The only player whose place in the side is tenuous is Lockhart, and they won’t make a pointless change like that after such a big win.

I agree especially now with the compressed fixtures we may need to rest LJ after a couple more games

No change for me, make Tommy Mc earn his spot back

Just find it amusing when players are put 'on notice' by supporters

Only the coaching staff know exactly what role AVB is being asked to play, seems to me to be a 'defender' across the middle of the ground

Hard to make changes after a win but we have a strange season.

We may need to manage a few players. Loved Jackson and Bennell but they may need to be rested. Both could come of the bench as impact players resting Max and Kossi.

id put TMac forward and include him in the rotation with a Jackson and Max.

Every player should be aware of the need to pressure opponents, I even saw Ollie chase and harass a couple of times instead of just jogging through the centre after doing his extraction job. I be inclined to rotate Bradshaw Ollie, Viney etc through the bench again using them as impact players.

The back line seemed pretty settled and maybe Rivers if anyone needed to be rested.

Langdon seems a beauty, ran all day pressured up forward and provided an outlet from defence.

Fritta works best as 3rd forward with Weid, TMac or Jackson.

its a great problem for Goodwin to have. Hope he can keep the confidence high. Just reminding players how much better they feel after a win than a loss should be an advantage.

I don't understand the 'unlove' for Melksham. We are not privy to what his role is, what the coaches want from him, and every possession he had was a winner. Get off his back.

Melksham, Hannan, and AvB aren’t getting huge numbers but I feel like most of the time those touches turn into something. The forward line has been working better than we’ve seen since 2018, I’m hesitant to be changing much about it but I can also see them trying to squeeze TMac into the team.

I think AvB may be being used as a defensive forward to bring heavy pressure, that sort of this was well and truly on display vs Hawthorn.

I can’t see how Tom gets in while LJ plays the game he did on the weekend.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
