Picket, a follow up question.

Do you still think our forward line is too small?

Our defensive zone clearly holding up: each of OMac, Lever and May have taken intercept marks and ended scoring chains.

Gawn utterly dominant. Petracca going to another level. Jackson looks markedly better than his first game. Bennell keeping involved. Pickett getting some reward for effort. Weideman competing in the air, so important for us. Midfield doing well at CPs and clearances.

+20 CPs, +5 CMs, +4 marks inside 50, +5 clearances, +6 tackles (despite being +31 in disposals), and +18 inside 50s. Could argue we should be more than 5 goals in front but I'll take it.

We can improve, still, on our inside 50s and we're still turning it over a bit through the middle, but compare our turnover rate today to the Richmond game.

Great half Dees! At least our second best quarter of footy this year. Completely smashing the contested ball and running our butts off. Weid looks powerful, Jackson is impressing. Hannan looks fully back now and offers so much without the ball. Salem' s kicking is back, Petracca is a colossus and Gawn is just taking the pi55. It's just all coming together!

Burgoyne is playing like the end has come.

Love our tackling.Love the defensive pressure.

Still too panicky in attack.

This is one of the best performances I’ve seen in ages. I know it’s only hawthorn, but we’re all over them. Outmarking them, out hand balling them. Its usually happens to us.

Great word. Don’t turn this into another Carlton game please.

Careful. He’ll ask for another rule change/interpretation

Geez this half time commentary is all about how bad the hawks are.

Nothing about our hard running and pressure.

Nice to see, even after a good quarter, we have supporters watching the game  for mistakes only and noting them down

The main aim seems to be get it forward any way, trap it in, expect some scrubby kicks and handball, but follow up has been excellent

Lever in his HT interview mentioned that we have to keep playing to win, rather than playing to not lose. Surely thinking about the Carlton second half. Let's hope we've learned some lessons from that game.

Like I said pre game the big problem with the hawks and cats game plan is if they fall behind by 3-4 goals the plan is useless

If we can play like this for the 2nd half I’ll be wrapped. But being a melb supporter there is always a bit of anxiety about what we will do.

Weid just keep smashing those packs, bringing the smaller blokes into it.

Great selections by Goodwin. Jackson’s mobility and marking has been great.
Kozzi is very comfortable at this level

So far so good. Lets go on and belt them to high heaven.

Yes, will be interesting to see how we come out after half time.

Wipe the scoreboard and start again Dees.

Would hope the players aren't getting ahead of themselves as we are! We coughed up a 42 point lead to Carlton and we know we're prone to goalless quarters and lapses in our play.

Can always rely on you for a negative comment even when we are playing so well

I understand that, I just prefer it’s not used in that way... just call him a dumb f*%#er, which is probably more appropriate anyway ?

Never give credit where credit is due. The mantra of the commentators who like to whip a lame horse.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
