Unless you are smiling like a coked up chipmunk every second you are on stage, such a photo is always possible,.  If his future is in question, wouldn’t you wait to catch such a shot? Hope @Lord Nev is on the money and he is locked away with us.

No but would find this astounding if true!

In addition to Jack there are a few FA's yet to make a call:  Crouch, Daniher, Cameron.  They are being linked to Port, Geelong, Brisbane, Collingwood

There is a school of thought that FA's don't ask to go or nominate their preferred club until that club is out of finals.

It looks like a domino needs to fall first eg on the basis that Geelong is the main suitor for Viney maybe they are waiting to see what Crouch does ( If Crouch goes to Geelong they don't take Viney).  Couch is also being linked to Port again.

If Jack is planning to stay it is hard to see what is stopping him from re-signing.  If he doesn't sign in the next week, I feel we may be in for a long wait.

I feel for him.  It must be a massive emotional tug-of-war.  Hopefully, he decides soon.

Word is, 5 year deal, locked in.

Jesus I hope this isn't true. 27, dodgy feet, can't play team first footy.... 5 years?

Let us hope the club isn't that stupid and learnt from their idiotic Harmes deal.

He finished 3rd in the B&F over Oliver and Gawn. I'm willing to say that this 'not team first' stuff is complete rubbish.

Perhaps he plays the role the club wants him to play, but when I see him bash and crash his own teammates and repeatedly get caught with ball in hand, it doesn't appear that he gels with the rest of the inside mids, and to me we play better when he isn't in the centre bounce.

Regardless, at his age and with his history of foot injuries, 5 years is far too many.

So he plays team first footy.

He's always been a battering ram .... it isn't his choice, it's how he plays. It's a blessing and a curse. If you said he may not complement our midfield, that's one thing, but saying he doesn't play team first footy because he doesn't have Oliver's in close hands and vision is rubbish.

Its actually laughable he finished ahead of Ed Langdon and as high as 3rd.

Langdon had a much more productive and team orientated year then Viney.

Jack Viney - 3rd in the B&F (2020); 3rd in the B&F (2019); 17th in B&F (2018; 10 games); 2nd in B&F (2017); 1st in B&F (2016); 2nd in B&F (2015); 2014 (11th; ); 2013 - best first year player (14th; 13 games). 8 seasons, 5 top 3 finishes.

Yeah, I'm ok with Jack playing another 5 years with the Demons.....

Jack would have finished like 8th this year should his name be anything other than Viney

Perhaps team first footy wasn't the right choice of words, but to me a player who gets in the way of his teammates and doesn't know his own limitations, is detrimental to his teammates. There is no doubt he goes hard and gives his all every week. I never doubt his desire or application, and never have. I have no problems if he stays, and I believe there is a role for him in the side, but I definitely do not rate him as highly as our coaches clearly do.

And I never commented on his skills. His skills are fine for the role he plays. I think he would be better suited to play in a midfield where he is the main and best clearance player. He isn't at Melbourne, and from the outside looking in, hasn't learnt to play second fiddle to Oliver.

From my perspective both Oliver and Langdon had better seasons and were more crucial to us winning the games we did. Coaches don't agree, and that is fine. They have their own matrix that we clearly don't see.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
