We need to win this one or it's getting very close to goodbye finals.

Unfortunately, my totally despondent and bitter self just does not see it happening!

Last week's side could only manage an under 14's score. What has changed?

This season has been [censored] up but that doesn't account for the fact that two problems that continually plague us remain. These are - The inability to play 4 ( even shortened) quarters of decent footy and the inability to turn inside 50's into scores.

How or why is it going to change today?

Bah! I'm so depressed, I can't even be bothered giving the maid a jolly good thrashing.

Hey Uncle, if you drop the drawbridge over the croc infested moat, I could be persuaded to drop on over and share a beverage or 5 with you and we can analyse the game then report on Demonland!? Then for afters you could show me your Im sure amazing man cave, complete with every extra sublety and "Must have" item! Hows that for a once in a lifetime offer???

The general standard of play this year has been horrible. We are not off to a good start, but wouldnt we all love to be heading to the G in the next hour or so to through our usual footy day routines. As they say, it is more than a game. Go dees.

I thought Cats, GCS Game entertaining.

Re today, I'm not sure we can beat an out of form Tiges outfit, not confident at all!

We should win because right now Rich is worse than us and are distracted by hubs.

But they will probably beat us with their usual strategies of:

  1.  spreading quickly from the contest to get goals out the back because our mids/defenders take attacking positions and can't man-up of get back to goal square fast enough.
  2.  an extra marking player in defence.  Salutary to remember that in last year's ANZAC Eve game the Brownlow votes were  3. N.Vlastuin (RIC), 2. K.Lambert (RIC), 1. B.Houli (RIC)

If either of those happen today and we don't have counter tactics ready then we have learnt nothing in the last 12 months.

Lynch and Reiwoldt won’t get much of it today. Not a day for big key forward by the sound of it and May was pretty good spoiling against the Cats.
Our expertise of bombing aimlessly into F50 might actually pay off today.
Hoping Kozzie gets on the end of a few.

I mean, the last time we played Richmond in the wet, Riewoldt certainly didn't get a hold of it.

Oh wait, that's right, he kicked 6

Fair point, but he’s in HORRIBLE form this year. Looks set for retirement and is worse than even TMac for us!

We’re a chance today due to the weather and their poor form. Anyone here thinking we could contend and make finals is probably dreaming at this point. We are miles off it and have a long road ahead of us again. So frustrating!

How very delightful of you picket, to invite yourself to my humble abode.

However, and I'm trying to be gentle here, Romsey is a rather exclusive locale. Ruffians like your goodself would be barely  allowed within the postcode much less the genteel confines of The Manor.

Issue is, Richmond is playing bad, when they turn it around and find some form, Riewoldt will look a lot better.

Doesn't matter if Melbourne play well or bad, T-Mac looks bad and has a turning circle like the Titanic.

Mobile fwd line might help us in the wet.

there I thought of something positive to say!

Oh right.

So based on this flawless logic Reidwoldt will kick six again today.

Goodwin has to put it all on the line today.
A win today puts us in the pack

if we play like we have been (Dysfunctional Forward Line) then i think we will know that Goody can only coach one way

The Club needs a win today.

Who knows what will happen, but pretty clueless comment to say they won't have impact because of conditions.

You don’t do irony very well do you.

Just saw a dude wearing a Demons windbreaker at the Ainslie shops.

I'm taking that as an omen that Vanders (The Pride of Ainslie) will have a big game: strong grabs, good ball use, and some crunching tackles.

Also, on the walk home an old fella said "G'day digger." I'm not exactly sure how that relates to the Dees and omens but I'll continue trying to find a link.

Dees by two goals.

someone please tell me where our goals are going to come from?

this side on paper is an absolute worry....

Also still amazed that AVB is getting a game - he has to perform today or do something that impacts the team

I'm putting the targets on AVB and Melk today, big game for these two

only problem is that there hasn't been much by way of rain today, nor does there look to be much coming in the next hour or so (going by the radar)

Our defence actually does a good job keeping opposition from getting big scores.

Our midfield is getting plenty of ball.

So, fix 2 things and we win.

  1. Stop the dysfunctional handball patterns through the midfield and the horrendous decision making that is the final act of those patterns
  2. Don't feed the Richmond defence intercept marking and spoiling.

Just watch Bachar Houli run and rebound out of defence time and time again without an opponent!

Don't understand the positivity re: wet weather. Despite our 'chaos' ball style, we are shocking in the wet, and Richmond have always been a good wet weather side.

We're more likely to not score a goal than win.

shouldn'tt' matter anyways - winning is the more important thing

can we do that? who knows...

I think we'll get exposed on speed today

Exactly.

Round 20 last year, we were even with Richmond at half time. Then as soon the rain came down we fell to pieces and Richmond dominated.

I can’t recall us winning a genuine wet weather game in years.

We’re all- rounders - hopeless whether it’s wet or dry.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
