Both travelled in an Uber then Sidebottom travelled to a covid unauthorised Collingwood staff member.  sidebottom-dunn-in-covid-hot-water-after-drinks-with-howe

On the basis of Spargo got two weeks as he was the senior player Sidebottom should also get two weeks.  However:  "...it's believed rigorous negotiations continue between the AFL and Collingwood".

No prizes for guessing if some 'mitigating' circumstances are discovered.

But Sidebottom is vice-captain.  He should get extra simply on the basis of poor leadership.

Could be just happening all over the joint.......

I love it that Collingwood are negotiating with the AFL. Surely for such breaches there is a prescribed penalty and the club has a hearing but the penalty is determined based on the breach and associated penalty not a negotiated outcome.

Compare that to mfc rather meek reaction for Spargo "The AFL investigators agreed with the club that Spargo's punishment should be greater than Pickett's, given he was both the senior player and the one who asked Pickett to come with him.  two-demons-set-to-be-suspended-for-breaking-afl-s-covid-19-protocols

imv, that Spargo wasn't playing isn't relevant; it sets a precedent.  Can't believe we asked for a higher penalty.  Go figure.   Manoney and co need to take a leaf from Eddie's negotiating book.

Eddie is on the phone to Dan Andrews for advice on spinning the indefensible.

off 360 they said they caught an uber to drink beers with Howe.  then sidebottom visited Wells (Club employee but not part of the hub)

no wiggle room there, catching an uber is premeditated and deliberate

When I heard this I straightaway thought it was DeGoey. Just the obvious target. But seriously I thought Sidebottom was smarter and had more brains.

Also again they are in an uber. Why? They both drive. Who knows who has been in that uber previously.

And collingwood are in negotiations. Take your punishment and be done with it. Gill don't be swayed by Ed.

When EFC couldn't wriggle out of their charge of "bringing the game into disrepute" (in the doping saga), they got to negotiate their penalty with the AFL.

Some people who've gone before our courts wouldn't mind that kind of justice. "M'lud, my client has been found guilty and according to statute, he has to serve a minimum of 5 years, but he would really prefer to serve six months suspended." Judge: "Hmmm ... it's a fair point ..."

Nothing new for the AFL to find ways to play favorites. Christ, the miracle would be is if they stopped finding ways to play favourites.

I can imagine this "negotiation".
Eddie: I'LL GO ON THE AIRWAVES EVERY DAY TEARING STRIPS OFF YOU
Gil: But Eddie ...
Eddie: DON'T YOU EDDIE ME, I'LL MAKE SURE THERE ARE ENTIRE EPISODES OF MILLIONAIRE WHERE EVERY QUESTION IS ABOUT HOW TERRIBLE THE AFL IS
Gil: Oh all right Eddie ... you're frightening me ... you win ...
Eddie: We're all mates here

I can understand Dunn and Sidebottom having a couple of beers with Howe given his injury and with Dunn recovering from bad knee injuries. It is also strange times when we are deriding players for catching an Uber rather than driving after some beers, but what they did puts the league at risk so should have a penalty.

Re Spargo and the MFC accepting the penalty, I haven't problem with this as it becomes a distraction given he was foolish and deserved two weeks and wouldn't be cracking into the team anyway with AVB, Hannan, HB, Jones and ANB ahead of him. Eddie can carry on all he likes, it doesn't have any impact on our pursuit of our next flag.

It’s a tough one.
they would have been in trouble as well if they had driven cars.

Went to see a mate whose season is over with a couple of 6 packs and got an Uber

It’s not often I sympathise with those at the Filth, but this is a very odd year.

It gets easier by the day to see this whole season coming apart at the seams.

After the negotiations Sidebottom received a stern warning and Collingwood received a priority pick.

I agree they are either guilty or not guilty. There is no "in between" or "negotiation scenario"  Typical Eddie and the colliwobbles.

In these tough Covid times it’s  great there’s s a steady hand on the tiller running the AFL. Thanks Eddie.

The plot thickens. Allegedly picked up by police and driven home. No arrest was made.  Over to you again Eddie ...

Surely he can't find a way to squirm his way out of this one...

How can we take this season seriously if players clearly don't?

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
