I would really like Goodwin to get as upset as I was in that second half.
he shows stuff all interest in a winning result,

that second half was 2019 all over again bar the last minute or so.
I will have no hair if this happens again

Pathetic smile on his face at the end.  Could you imagine Roos doing that?

I didn’t get to see the game today. Do I bother watching a replay?

Haha watch the first quarter and stop. You would think we are a chance for top 4.

Watch the rest, you would think we are a chance for the spoon.

We are an ordinary football team and and ordinary football club. Once again, the people in a position to actually do something about raising the intensity when the opposition does the same (i.e. the players out on the ground) failed miserably.

I can't even be bothered looking but I'd love to know how many times this group has failed to kick a goal in the last quarter over the last few years. They just don't like the heat.

We look like sending North Melbourne a pick between 1 and 4 for Pickett which is great.

Our forward line is an absolute shambolic .  What use to be one of our great strengths has now been gutted and turned to [censored].

and the only one who gets it is too nervous to kick straight..

Stopped watching midway through the third. Could see where the game was heading happy to see we somehow won.

I cannot remember a team that can look like a top 4 team then a bottom two team in the space of a quarter.

Gary Lyon is also impossible to listen to, the constant negative comments about Melbourne (even when we were flying) is just so draining

Surprised there hasn't been more of a mention of our inability to keep the ball inside our forward half.  Who can remember us having repeat inside 50s after the first qtr and a bit?

I got used to no footy during lockdown. I kind of missed it, but it wasn't like I was chomping at the bit to see us back because the game against the Eagles was a painful reminder that we learnt nothing in the off-season and Goody clearly doesn't know what he's doing.

And here we are. Footy is back. My team just won and I'm sadder than I have been in the last 3 months because it's painfully obvious that we are a very, very average team.

I guess what I'm saying is that during lockdown my team was terrible but at least I couldn't see them be terrible and I could pretend they aren't, or at least it didn't matter (i.e. there are bigger things than footy etc.)

Sigh, tough times.

I need a drink.

I was rapt that we teased Carlton into thinking they were a chance.  Result never in doubt!

Thank you for the much-needed laugh.

That was pathetic, we need at least an eight goal lead to be comfortable.

The lack of composure in the front half still kills us, we stop when we should play-in and play-in when we should stop.

Tom McDonald is cooked.

Jake Melksham is cooked.

Goodwin has no idea what he’s doing.

Smith should never be in the back half again.

ANB was very good.

Hunt was very good.

Rivers is an absolute beauty.

Lever and May aren’t what we paid for.

Once Carlton worked out Gawn we were done.

Petraccca is a star.

Could have been worse Clint we could have lost.

Garry is spot on though.  He's sick of it like we all are.  What good does sugar coating it do?

I’ve got no idea what goodwins obsession with Smith is. He isn’t a footy player. May and lever were shocking. Mcdonald didn’t half a contest.

Hate to keep harping on it, but I cannot believe they sung the song without Max, especially as his first win as captain.

We're a team of individuals.

I have to say that I would have liked to have Omac in defence today. when we were winning the middle we had no problems but when that turned around we were in troble.

Had OMac played, we would have lost the game by half-time. Notice Jones' long bomb - taken off the field. It was useless and set up another Carlscum goal. TMac - as a static forward - ain't the answer, once again. We need him in his original position at CHB. As for poor JSmith, pop him in the forward line where he is free to roam. Rivers was impressive and Jackson, once settled, came on rather well. Bennell - a good, injury-free run using the ball well with teammates. Still sense some absolute stardom from him.

Nice to win, great start, team wore out rather quickly. Hunt is valuable.

What do you mean a chance ?

dead set certainties I would have thought !

Come back Frosty. All is forgiven.?

Sorry but putting down a team when they are 7 goals up for the sake of it and constantly running with it is not commentating. He is a grade A [censored].

Bottom 4 team, similar to Carltank. the coach is shizen and many of the players just take the foot of the gas too easily

42 up and win by a point Parrrrrk Me.

Can we trade both Mc Donald boys of to Gold Coast for a future Round 4 Pick!??

Gee I'm angry What have we actually learnt??

Shocking Win!!

Ask yourself this how many "Power' Sides would let opposition back into the game

Goodwins time is up! Get Ross Lyon In!!

It is so hard being a MFC supporter....

We showed the rest of the competition how to beat us.  Close check on Trac and Oliver, keep hitting Max hard.  Apply even a fraction of pressure - we are weak as stale urine.

Of the newbies, Bennell did OK but not a game breaker - 6/10

Jackson - will be better for the run 4/10

Rivers - looked very good on debut 8/10

I would expect plenty of changes for next week.  If we play that same squad, we are in trouble.  Too many poor performances after 1/4 time.

Let’s be honest, opposition players are chatting away and laughing with each other. It’s nothing more than a longer pre-season competition. Happy to have a win but meh.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
