Agree plus we went over LATE the night before and had crap preparation. As Pates mentioned we stayed with WCoast for 3 qtrs and only lost by 4 and a bit goals. Some of you people just love getting stuck into the club and do not stop to think what a poor situation we were in round one. This 2 teams playing is not relevant. They were at home in a weird situation which would have been a benefit compared to us getting in late and not the normal interstate preparation. Maybe if WCoast is the professional side as ET mentioned then FOLLOW them in lieu of the Dees.

Let's see what the next couple of rounds (whenever played) bring before going over the top.

C’mon Pates. That is such a Melbourne answer. Yes the Eagles blew us away in the 1st Quarter, when the game was hot and then did enough to keep their lead. 
For such a strong and Televised preseason we showed nothing, 

Both teams would have felt very weird running out onto an empty Stadium.

To be honest, we had our chances in the first 11 minutes and probably dominated play. We allowed them 5 goals in 4.5 minutes. I’ve rewatched the rd 1 game and while I concede we made some errors, wasting our scoring opportunities was what hurt the most. The game was fairly even in general play

But the object of the game is to score. 
i think Goodwin forgets that aspect far too much.

This is an accurate assessment IMO.

The concerning aspect for me from the game was however that the poor forward half conversion rate (inside 50s and accuracy in front of goal) appeared not to have been fixed over the pre-season.

2018 we started poorly and had everyone write us off as going nowhere for the year after the Hawthorn loss.  Then to this day 2 years ago we came up against a resurgent Carlton who were starting to find some competitiveness and everyone was smelling a dangerous game that the Melbourne of old would likely loose against aside that on paper it shouldn't loose to - we then proceeded to blow them away by 108 odd points.

Whilst I would have much prefered to be round 1 winners for once, I'm not loosing my [censored] over it like some people are here.  It's a long season and I recon we will go ok.

Totally agree Ron. Mitch Brown did little to improve our forward line. TMac was lost at sea again. Too many mids blowing opportunities to goal. It is definitely an area on which we need to improve. It's the same problem we have had for the last few years.

He can't kick the goals for them. He can structure the side to provide opportunities. We had those and the execution failed us.

It would be interesting to analyse the comments in this thread with those in the various "Would a Premiership Matter in 2020" threads to see who is saying the Premiership doesn't count this year while being profoundly concerned about finishing last.

The execution has been poor for 2-3 years

i think the Senior Coach can take some blame for it

How anyone can base anything on round one in Perth and still be bitter is so far beyond me as a human being. Even with years exposed to this website and the eternal disappointment of being a Demons fan, like really?

Put your money on Adelaide they are ****house. Gold Coast will probably win it they are a few years away from being competitive.

Why are we favourites for the spoon?   ARE WE  TANKING. ?   If not then l expect to be in it for a long way with happy days ahead.

There is plenty of upside and we need to have faith lets just hang in there and just maybe they see the light.

Adelaide or GC to take the spoon this year.

However, if Goodwin can’t improve our inside 50 efficiency and maximising the most out of our talented players, then we’re a sneaky chance at 21-1.

We are mid-range for pretty much every futures bet, including the flag, most (and least) wins, top 8, top 4 etc. Not even close to being "favourites" for the spoon at every major outlet I've seen, nor have they "firmed" in any market, let alone the wooden spoon.

 

So maybe the market is saying: The MFC has the personnel and potential but lacks the coaching and strategies to have a really good season?

Gold Coast will be getting the first 2 picks and a the mid range pick , no way they will not be aiming for that 

special mention to crows for a chance 

maybe , and hope so Carlton will be there

It was just so disappointing to see the same mistakes as last year and the same game plan.

    UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

    Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft.     Demonland Trackwatchers ventured down to Gosch's Paddock for the final week of training for the 1st to 4th Years until they are joined by the rest of the senior squad for Preseason Training Camp in Mansfield next week.
