My namesake Andrew Lamprill.

In my work fantasy footy leagues my teams were named “Ghost of [insert obscure or mediocre Demon here]” and I changed the player each year.

Ghost of Weetra

Ghost of Pesch

Ghost of Hopgood

And of course Ghost of Lamprill.

A Richmond supporter I worked with says “Ghost of Lamprill, what’s that about?” and I went on to explain how he was a pretty ordinary player for Melbourne in the early 90s without being that complimentary about Lamprill’s ability, and he goes “Oh yeah, I know Andrew well. He’s a family friend, we used to go camping together.”. It was a touch awkward.

In honour of Goodwin, my footy tipping name this year is “Hit out - Clearance - ???? - Success”.

Lamprill kicked the winning goal on debut vs Geelong in round 2 1992 in the game that opened the Great Southern Stand from memory.

Another player who kicked a winning goal on debut was Stephen Tingay in round 1 1989 vs Fitzroy.

As I recall, Stinga came on for the first time in the last quarter (interchange but no rotation in those days) and kicked the winning goal with his first kick.

Checking AFLtables.com Lamprill also had one kick for one goal that day. I can't remember if he actually kicked the winning goal but I do remember the goal it was a snap from the boundary line about 40 out. Great goal.

I always thought I remembered Tingays game winning goal as a snap from the boundary about 40 out in the members side pocket at the Punt Road end but watching a copy of the replay a couple of years ago it was a slight snap directly in front about 35 out at the City End! Maybe I was getting it confused with the Lamprill goal all this time? (I was only 7 in 1989)

I watched the start of the 1993 round 11 game vs Collingwood last night. We towelled them up, Jakovich put on a show kicking 8 or 9 goals including a soccer style celebration pulling his jumper over his head and we smashed the Pies from the first bounce kicking the first 6 or so goals.

And amongst all that an obscure Demon Scott Simister was making his debut

Have the Rugolo brothers been mentioned, Frank and Joe? Short careers at the end of the last century if I remember correctly.

The Rugolo family had/have a large panel beating business on Mt Alexander Road  Ascot Vale.

The Ritterman twins, Henry and Michael. I remembered the names but had to check with Demonwiki whether they had even played any senior games. Turns out Henry played 23, while Michael didn't play any.

This could lead to an even more obscure sub-thread: Jewish MFC footballers. Add Ezra Poyas and...anyone else?

Add Trevor Korn. All played with AJAX in the ammos.

Brett Bailey - kicked the winning goal in the 1987 night grand final defeat of the bombers. Left foot snap from the forward pocket.

Great Bloke Bails and a sensational Cricketer Batsmen and Fielder!

With the Queen's birthday (April 21) coming up, it would be remiss to leave out Scott Chisholm, who is (according to Scott) related to the British Royal Family.

Excuse me if the Prince has already been listed.

How about Henry Ritterman, late 60’s or early 70’s   Rover also with Ajax but still follows Melbourne,

and Dave Kelly. His name I think. Ruckman played about only small number of games about 1973.

If you know these two  either could have played and only they would have known who was there,  identical.  I was once snubbed by Henry by not speaking to me at the cricket, except of course it was Michael and I had not met Michael. I think I kept that "grudge" for 6 months,

Will not forget that time, cos i knew they were twins.  long time ago now.

They may still look the same but their playing styles were noticeably different on the field..

Michael played in the centre (when there was such a position) and was a runner in perpetual motion pushing the ball forward for the whole game.

Henry played more as a forward/utility who was also a runner but like taking speccies and kicking goals.

Both were great amateur footballers.

Maintaining the even more obscure sub-thread: Jewish Ex-Demons footballers, Derek and Rick Feldmann.

Returning to the very obscure Gentile Ex-Demons footballers thread... Laurie Queay played two games in 1972 (probably off the bench). Unfortunately 'Tiger' Ridley and the match committee were unimpressed, he never played for the firsts again. Pretty decent footballer in his day for a school now prominent in recent AFL drafts.

I don't think they qualify under this heading, not the number of games played.

Those players on the MFC site weren't very obscure.

Agreed JJC, not wishing to obfuscate matters further, but according to Webster's obscure (of people) is defined as "not attracting attention, not known to people at large" Oxford somewhat elucidates by suggesting... those unknown to fame, whereas an online dictionary  reports "not discovered or known about".

On the question of the Feldmanns' ancestory, (even more obscure sub-thread: Jewish MFC footballers). WE were pondering placement of a question mark after their nomination. Our research indicates possible Prussian or Ashkenazi origins for the Feldmann name. We have also purportedly tracked Derek to northern climes. Where he may reside (well at least until recently) as a manager of a timeshare holiday resort.?

Anyway the bubblegum card depicts Derek with some other 'obscure' Ex- Demons.

Greg Parke was so obscure in the late 60s/early 70s that they couldn't even spell his name correctly on the bubblegum card.

(Was not really obscure at all. Wonderful contested mark. Less said about the kicking, the better).

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

    RAIN CHECK by Whispering Jack

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds. After a slow start in the opening term when they failed to take advantage of the breeze, it appeared that the Demons had decided
