POSTGAME: MS02 vs Hawthorn

Featured Replies

Great win a real team performance best players Tomlinson, Fritsch, Langdon, Viney, Lockhart. Hibberd had a better second half.

ROLLING BEST 22

B: JETTA, MAY, LOCKHART

HB: SALEM, LEVER, HARMES

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, TOMLINSON

HF: PICKETT, T.MCDONALD, JONES

F: MELKSHAM, BROWN, FRITSCH

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: BRAYSHAW, HIBBERD, NEAL-BULLEN, SPARGO

Vanders walking around the rooms in runners. No ice.
Literally no idea what this means. Just passing on what I’m seeing.

Bedford did some nice things and kicked a bloody nice goal.

Saw AVB walking off with both boots on so hopefully that’s a good sign.

Couldn't watch any of the game. A poster talked about how good defence looks.

What role did May have in this re organising etc. Same query for lever?

Thoughts?

Best I've seen a Demons back 6 look.

Just read the drop of the ball, defensive coordination, numbers at the contest, ball distribution (circulation) pressing high, the ball was falling into their laps.

Hawthorn had no method bring the ball into the f50, completely shut down.

Defensive setups looked vastly superior to last season. Hawks might have got out the back once in the entire game. Lockhart looks at home down back and for me he is best 22.

Bedford looked impressive from limited minutes, will certainly give Pickett a run for his money for that small forward role if not rd 1 early into the season

Ball movement infinitely better with Langdon and Tomlinson running the wings

Wouldnt mind 10 of Bayley Fritsch

Was great seeing May looking happy out there and the back 6 settled

Lockhart massively impressive down back, great composure with ball in hand and should make his way into the rd 1 side

As hard as it is being optimistic about this club at times, this preseason has been exceptional and the boys have set themselves up well for a good crack at the season. Will have nowhere to hide and no one to blame if this all goes belly up.

Go Dees!

I’d play Bedford before Spargo.

Very hard to know what to make of these games. our game plan doesn't look overly improved but we look fit.

Viney ? May finishing a game ?Fritsch?

WOW! Tomlinson and Langdon it is amazing to have two very talented ready made players extra experience to boost our stocks.

That is what you call depth.

Jackson,  Lockhart and Bedford   future  looked good for us.

Tomlinson & Langdon also both played almost 100% game time. That'll help everyone

Jack Viney led from the front. Great game. Cameron Rose=[censored] journalist.

That was an atrocious game of footy in terms of spectacle. I had to really focus to stay watching. But, some really good signs.

Tomlinson and Langdon add that missing link of outside run and ball delivery to our power at the contested ball. They were super impressive.

Jack Viney showed why he is not irrelevant or a liability. As did Nathan Jones, who could be a surprise influence across half forward. Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver, and Viney  make a formidable midfield if we can get a lot of games with them playing together. I forgot how good Clarry's hands are.

For a so-called "elite" kick, Steven May really worries me. Some absolute howlers tonight.

Our mid and small forwards look strong and we have a few to choose from. Our tall forwards looked lost and incompetent.

Hibberd looked OK later in the game, but was fumbly and mistake ridden for large parts of the game.

Clarko is a great coach. He reshuffled and screwed up our forward structure in the third.

It's all about lowering the eyes.

We can't really just on milkshake and Fritta either. We need Tmac and or Weid to be a focus for us.

Hope the xfactor of Kossie comes back in too

Impressed by Jackson, obviously he was outmuscled by a mature AFL player in Ceglar but he’s got some real class and great agility for a big man

It appeared that AVB was precautionary (and fingers crossed) however he was bog ordinary prior to coming off and would not be playing round 1 for mine. He needs some good solid time at VFL to find touch. Great to see our fitness show through again and our defensive set up work well all game, Oscar, Lever and Lockhart in particular-layer above my expectations. I cant have Hibberd, he is a liability and I would much prefer to see Omac, May and Lever with a rotation of Harmes, Salem, Lockhart and Jetta (who also looks a touch off the pace).

Forward set up leading into round 1 is the most intriguing.Fritsch is really an undersized full forward. With TMac playing higher and Weid not adding value when forward I would look to play Jackson as the second ruck, forward and take in an extra small. Particularly against fast sides on likely fast tracks in the first two rounds.

I reckon TMac looks better with Brown in the side (sample set of 1 game).

Bedford is a ripper.

I can’t see how my future poster child Sparrow gets into this side, which is a shame, and a great problem at the same time.

I don.t think your analysis will come come into play much.

Outmuscled. Pushed in the back illegally. Same same.

Yes agree a real rookie game but I liked what I saw. Regularly pushed in the back by Ceglar at throw ins I thought but he often got reinvolved at ground level. Will be interesting to see how the coaches decide to use him this season.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.
