Viney was not amongst the top vote getters in the players vote

This doesn't surprise me...

A bit of looking from the outside but also a little inside info.

Jack is a very focussed individual, he might lack a bit of empathy and understanding.

Wholistic leadership may not be a strong suit...

Time will tell.  May hasn't exactly covered himself in glory, but I'm more bullish about Lever's long term future with the club.

Yes. May needs to put the points on the board first, then he can shout every club member a beer. (about half his annual pay should cover it).

Lets be honest, not surprising at all. Only reason why he was captain was the likes of McCartney and Goodwin who elevated him straight away.

Now that the players have been given the opportunity to vote, this shows who they respect and look to as their leader.

Never have rated Viney as a leader. I look at Lever, May and Gawn and they stand for everything you need in a leader. Commendable and respected. Viney is not that.

I re read what you posted and suddenly realised what you had actually said. I originally posted that he still had time.

You wouldn't know if he was commendable or respected. However your comments and many others you have posted are definitely the antinomies of those qualities.

I think Gawn alone should be best.  No shame on Viney though.

1 Captain

1 Road to Travel

1 Goal to achieve

This is the right call for the Club as a whole. Max is a Leader. He shows it

Jack can still play an absolute pivotal role

But Max is the one.
his speeches at The B&F are always focused

Team mates will work with him

The number 11

Jimma will be proud

Spewed up on Tom Scully in China and now soul captain...

Its a big yes from me.

Should have been made captain then and there.

The Gawn yawn

If true really interested to see how Viney reacts and how much he applies himself

I hope he finds the hunger for the man and contest he had 3 season ago.

You can automatically put Jack in the All Australian side, the bull will bounce back in a big way.

Good. Jack hasn’t been angry for quite sometime.
when everything fell apart last year, Jack had no idea where to start. I don’t blame him for that, it isn’t his natural job

Lets be honest

OK

Typical Melbourne.

Viney too tough and hard to be capt of the club.

Never seen Viney shirk a contest; from Wojo to Stack.  Same can’t be said for Gawn round 1 2019.

Is this about a popularity contest within the club?  Is this about Viney setting the bar too high and being too honest?  Is this about the club trying to wipe the slate clean in relation to 2019?  Is this more about PR and media?  Is this our answer to the Grundy 7 year deal?

You're just a caricature of yourself now. Whatever the club did you would have had a crack. If they had've stuck with Viney or gone co-captains it would've been "typical conservative Melbourne, too scared to take a chance on someone who has a bit of character, too scared to back themselves in and admit they made a mistake appointing Viney as captain, still stuck in the old Hollywood Boulevard days etc etc"

Are you saying Gawn is soft?

He's one dimensional 'TGR'...a tough Captain like Selwood is renowned for his empathy with teammates.

I'm pretty sure Hodge would be similar.

Jack hasn't learned this, maybe he will, maybe he won't.

...he's also a very selfish player on the ground.

I can understand why he didn't get the player vote.

It was Goodwin's first mistake making the captains call on Viney.

I hope he doesn't repeat it by making him co captain.

Think how Mitchell was moved on for Hodge at Hawthorn and it didn't hurt them.

Let him learn...and be a better more team oriented player.

This is a chanel 7 report right. How do we know if true ?

Watch the game vs Adelaide in Darwin from last year, think it was in last quarter, in front of me Jack (who I am a huge fan of, and was in shock after) failed to contest a mark that he could have stopped but would have been belted, he may be tough as nails, but he, like pretty much all players, has shirked.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
