Even with the addition of Sally Freeman to our board (giving us two female members) we still don't meet the 40% quota requirement to ensure funding.  With an 8 person board we need at least 3.

but 3 is only 37.5%, luci........and you know what bureaucrats are like

I am beginning to believe we will not have any news in the life of this parliament!

We also won a flag from Goschs and Casey so it is of small consequence to me now in this half of the decade.

Sounds like a plan LH, 7 is probably enough anyway. It is well known that women can do multiple tasks at the same time. So a board of 7, with 4 men and  3 women will do what 5 men and 3  women would accomplish anyway.

Surely one or more of the guys could choose, on any day required, to "identify as female" and that would do the trick!

Not too far off the tangential topic but I would like to see each club being able to employ two non male coaches outside the soft salary cap.

The position level would need to be fixed at a minimum which reflects available candidates but at a level that avoids tokenism.

In yesterdays Hun there was a story of Richmond's new plan to spend $65 million on a redevelopment of the Punt road ground. Under ground parking the works it looks impressive.

From that we can be sure they are not leaving Punt road and you can bet there will be a government contribution.

Will that be announced  before anything for the MFC?

I believe we are looking at the facility being built for the Women's World Cup, the State Government will build it and pay for it and we will take it over when the World Cup finishes in 2023.

It may well be where car park F currently is, if not very close to that.

That's the plan.

Questions - is that in the Olympic Park precinct, and what time of year is the Women’s World Cup? (Soccer, I presume).

This was my hope however WC starts 20 July 2023 in 19 months time. That’s probably barely enough time to build it if they started now but there will be a long process that has to be gone through before they can even start. First all stakeholders have to agree to it. This obviously hasn’t happened yet. Then it has to go through a whole planning process starting with Public consultation because it is public land. Before then going through the planning approval. All of that would normally take a year or more. Unfortunately can’t see it happening in time for WC.

Presumably the word "improvements" is missing from this sentence, just before "made to existing fencing and lighting". If not, I don't think it's actually English.

"In conjunction with the Victorian Government, Melbourne and Olympic Parks and the AFL, Gosch’s Paddock will be resurfaced and enlarged to MCG sized length and Marvel Stadium sized width and made to existing fencing and lighting."

This thread has been going so long that now that the upgrade is finally happening our longings have now moved onto something more akin to Optus stadium, we are human after all and Premiers.!!!!

Perty mentioned in an interview recently that he'd seen the designs, so maybe it's all already gone through, just we have to allow the WWC to have their moment before the next stage is announced....

Rode past Gosch’s this morning as part of my new year’s resolution to get back in the saddle and lose some kilos. The good news is the works are due to be completed in May this year. Hopefully training gets relocated there from its current interstate location out at Casey!

I rode over to the tennis centre and heard someone hitting balls on the practice courts on Swan Street so stopped to have a peek through the fence. A young Chinese woman was hitting up with a not so young male coach and she had very powerful ground stokes. But my eye was drawn to the male coach and the way he was so effortlessly hitting the ball, just a joy to watch and strong on both sides, hardly mis hitting a ball. The more I looked the more familiar he became, it was Pat Cash. He is 56 but from a distance he looks just as fit as when he was at his peak. His student’s name escapes me but she is ranked number 34 in the world.

OMG, so we had zero input into the design/function of the place even though we will be the permanent occupants. Brilliant!

Beggars can't be choosers?

I think AAMI Park is only hosting 6 WWC games, so I am sure the facility is being designed with both the WWC and the MFC in mind.

If the Government funds the build and we just pay for the refit I think we have done well.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti
