Where have they put the money? I work at Deakin and the ground is ok, the change rooms are tiny and have no facilities in them that are worthy of a local club let alone an AFL club.

Sorry I had misinterpreted the initial post.

There is no reason for Deakin Burwood to buy the Mt Scopus site.

I walk there regularly and have for years. There are minimal students on campus today.

Post covid even less as lectures and tutorials are all on-line.

Deakin had a mad building programme in place pre-Covid, and now there are whole buildings which have nobody..nobody inside.

It is a situation all universities are facing, but the last thing they need to be doing is buying more land.

I know they were making offers on properties around the back pre Covid...I guess a lot has changed since.

it would only be an interim move. if caulfield comes off it will be 2-3 year project to complete.

With the AFL purchasing Waverley Park off Hawthorn Football Club earlier this year, Richmond is seriously contemplating renting it off the League to move both football programs to train in Mulgrave from October 2026 onwards until the Swinburne Centre – which will maintain its naming rights once the redevelopment is complete – is ready.

“Waverley Park is a live option for us. With the AFL purchasing that now, we have certainly put a stake in the ground with that. We have multiple options, but that is certainly a live option,” Dunne said.

My fear is we will never get out of there ... sub standard facilities forever!

It would be more acceptable if it accompanied an announcement and a commitment, by all stakeholders, to Caulfield.

Meanwhile, Eddie's Collingwood ride the coat tails of the TA, government $millions,extension into the neighbouring AAMI, Gosch, MCG precinct.

With Gosch's now in demand from Tennis and the Pies, we should keep the pressure on for Caulfield, by staying until it is ready to move to.

What is the relevance of being closer to Casey, when players don’t go from Waverley to Casey, but rather from their homes to Casey?

Don’t like the sounds of this.

Why are we talking about Deakin when the site is right next to Monash Uni? Surely their sports science people can use our buildings from time to time and whack a Monash logo on somewhere, it can be sold as an educational site and help MRC with their debt issues.

I could not agree more.

Casey is a class facility now. AAMI suits the players.

I don’t see why this needs changing unless Caulfield isn’t coming to fruition?

We should be putting 100% of our resources and effort in to Caulfield, not 50/50 Caulfield/Waverley.
