Going by the photos, progress clearly has been made. There are now orange flags and poles erected in the sand. Construction is flying along, seemingly at a similar pace as the Monash.

I haven't been keeping up with the news, or this thread, but was there any verdict yet on where they were going to build the club HQ?

Last I recall there was some talk about it being on/around carpark E on the city side of AAMI....  🤢🤮

Sadly as cold as the grave JTR. Zero news. 

Turf being laid down at Goschs as we speak. Will upload a couple of images after my bike ride if I can make the files small enough for the DL site. 

If anyone has any tips on how to get some pics from my iphone down to the minuscule 25kb allowed to upload onto this site I can add a couple of pics of the grass being laid.

Email the photo to yourself from your iPhone, and after hitting "Send" you should get a dialogue box which gives options to reduce the size(mb's) of the photo.  Once you receive it yourself...then use it to post.

Sending it via SMS to yourself will reduce it's size too

Hmm so turf being laid and not sewn by seed. Tif Tuf or kikuyu my guess. Though the sandy base may indicate some type of zoysia or tall fescue

Thanks guys. Whatever I do I can only get it down to around 36kb and I've tried on the lightroom app as well. Never mind. They should have it all grassed by next week I imagine.

you can always place them on a picture sharing site for free (can't remember the names atm)

then in demonland either use copy image (right click on external image then paste) or just provide a link

This is harder than finding a home base.

I think you'll find the trick is to delete older content you've uploaded to the site. Go to your profile and delete anything you don't have an emotional attachment too (hard I know given this is a footy fansite).

TifTuf is a type of hybrid Bermuda (couch), that is harder wearing and requires less watering than standard couch. Kikuyu is probably the most aggressive growing grass type there is (good for self repairing from wear). These 2 are recommended as having a soil base (generally a sandy loam), zoysias are recommended as having a pure sand base and fescues can establish in that type of subsoil as well.

But what about the piping? Will they adopt a Donnelly nut-spacing and crack system rim-riding grip configuration using a field of half-C sprats and brass-fitted nickel slits with bracketed caps and splay-flexed brace columns vent dampers to dampening hatch depths of of one-half meter from the damper crown to the spurve plinths? I think you've confused the football surface with the more rigid demands of the farnarkle ground.

All very well, but it's imperative the you first utilise reverse omnick stromulators. The triple overhead cam versions with rudder control  interlockers work best. Others may use a tap.

Of course this used to be standard practice until someone discovered lead in the patch-hamplers. So now it's back to work experience kids using hoses.

Drove by this morning and they had rolled out grass on half the ground at this stage

Guess that Mid/Late May Date seems on target.

I'd be shocked if its kikuyu.  That's very common around the bush leagues and rural locations like where I am in Mildura as its tough and grows back quickly but it goes very dormant in the cooler weather.  I don't think any AFL/VFL teams would use kikuyu and for the cost of this project, they'd be wanting the best of the best - and rightfully so.

Our town has just spent around $40m on a new sports precinct with a very flash basketball stadium and a few footy ovals.  I thought the oval would just be moving some loam around and rolling out some turf but was shocked by the amount of design work, prep, soil decisions, drainage etc were involved.  Was amazing (and bloody costly) seeing it all come together.

It's great seeing the photos (big thank you) but looking at them I'd be be shocked if we were training on it this year.  The turf up here once laid took months to settle and ours was laid coming into summer in the one of the best growing areas in the country with how stupidly hot it gets up here.

I don't know if we plan on training on it this season or not but I'd hope we don't risk players training on turf rolled out that hasn't taken yet.

The MCG and Docklands use eclipse stabilised turf, so wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what we’re going for. Which means we could be training back at Gosch’s very soon.

My dear old grandfather was very familiar with turf.  He smoked about 30 of them a day.
