Serious question - have we ever had a player like Harley Bennell on our list?

An injury-prone potential superstar?

We’ve only had about two dozen.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to see him play but he’s not Chris Judd.

No Bennell can actually kick.

MFCSS tempers any excitement. Even if he has six decent games we'll all be wondering if  a breakdown is just around the corner.

More likely a "decent' season and then we are forced to pay over the odds for a 3 year contract .... and we know what happens.

Let's hope for some joy

Why is it that your comments seem to me so likely to happen DJ?
oh I know history!

I see a fair bit of Michael Walters in the way this bloke moves, just even in the practice sessions.

MFC will need to be talking and backing up better than ever.

Travis was one of my all time favourite players.

That said, Bennell seems to be a different type of player. He’s more powerful for a start.

I understand Ron what you are trying to say but I don't think power is the thing.

Its smoothness almost a gliding and pace more similar to Andrew Macleod really.

I also really liked Travis and his skills and if Harley could give us 3/4 years of what Travis did we would be very privileged.

Perhaps  Travis could have even been a better player than even he was as he had Social issues that held him back physically and I believe mentally.

Again  another floored ( injured Players included) genius to join many of our Potential champs to join Schwartz Jakovich Hogan Charles Bamblett Wonnemarri Stephen Smith Glen Swann And mysterious departures of Pike and Martin.
Others Will add to this list no doubt.

Yep, I reckon that’s it - I can’t recall seeing another player like that in the red and the blue.

It’s a smoothness with authority and purpose - coupled with super silky skills.

Travis made time stand still when on song. His ability to swerve and thus find space followed by perfect delivery was something to watch.

[censored] it, lid is off! Time to unleash him goody! ❤?

Don't want to derail a thread on the best news story of year.

But TJ never played a bad final. I think he put his lifestyle choices on hold for the big games. He was a pleasure to watch when on song.

yeah, but he was only fit enough to play for a half at a time

that second and third quarter against the crows one year was unbelievable

he was completely out of puff in the last

He started on the bench for most of the first and ran out of puff in the last but in 2nd and 3rd he almost won us the final off his own boot.

I wish we had burgess back then.

If Burgess can get HB through to the end of the year. His blood should be bottled and an apprentice made to drink it and become a clone....

Hard to pick up all but he out smarted Motlop...burned off Duncan a couple of times then outsmarted  Enright.

When he played us at the 'G', he took us to pieces...didn't matter who we tried on him.

Then ask Bob Murphy how he cut them up one day.

I don't know what web site you think you're on, but this one is a fan forum for the Melbourne football club.

His final against St Kilda in 2006 wasn’t his best, but yes Travis was probably the best big game Demon player in my lifetime. He always stood up in finals and the big matches. He’s very underrated on these forums from what I’ve read. Yes, he could’ve had a better career, but it was still a good one where he lead the league for kicks, inside 50s and score assists for years on end. He was class.

Back on Bennell, he’s supremely talented and it’s exciting we might be seeing him in a red and blue so soon! He played part midfield and part forward in the practice match. Do we expect the same at AFL level or do we need to be cautious with midfield time?

Too bad he was not interested in being the best at his profession he could be. He could have been one of our greatest.

Harley is on 9 news tonight. He has been so newsworthy that he is now asking for appearance fees.

My humble opinion is that he js a cert for Saturday

Hhmmmm maybe just sign him (Burgess) up for another year or 10. I’m now concerned he’s not on the books after this year.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
