Anyone know why Rivers fell so low in the draft?

How many you taking ahead of him know?

There were a few flankers in the draft and he was just seen as another one. What may have been missed by recruiters who didn’t delve deeper, was that Riv had glandular fever making him miss the entire preseason. He expected to maybe earn a couple of games later in the season but played from round 1 onwards.

Dunno if this has been posted before, but this was our rankings for the draft (a fair bit of it covered unfortunately), as shown very brief in the To Hell & Back series. No idea if this is a week out from the draft, or months, so not sure how much movement would have occurred, but interesting to note we went against the grain with a few rankings - Noah Anderson ranked 5th, and McAsey 20th (taken pick 6 by Adelaide).

Interesting we rated Ryan Sparkes at Pick 36 ahead of some kids who were were drafted 1st and 2nd round draft.

Ryan Sparks is currently on the Casey Demons VFL list.

Sparks could still be a player. One to watch at Casey this year.

and the Riv ... one of JTs diamonds.  He is a good pick and has the skill, courage and intensity to be a 10+ year player.

My goodness we have a good one here, this  guy has it. If he stays fit, adds a bit more upper body weight (not much just a bit more holding power) he will be a star.

I loved this kid from the first 15 seconds of video I ever saw of him pre-draft. So wrapt we got him and even more excited to have him performing so well. I also love that his name is Rivers.

Cannot believe he lasted till our 3rd pick.

100% Nailed that draft. Jackson Kozzie and Rivers - 3 young jets that make you enjoy watching footy

I remember everybody wanted Young in the 2019 draft before Luke Jackson was picked and then we got the Young clone in Rivers but I think at the end of the day Rivers will be better than Young.

That draft has completely re-invigorated our side. We went all in and traded up the order, only to nail all 3 picks.

The body and courage of a 30 year old. Beast.

Spot on, I think having Lever and May as two main stays while also having the influence of Nev and Hibberd is really taking Rivers to the next level. That's 4 former AA's to learn from and Rivers is playing nothing like a teenager should, so selfless and brave.

Just finished the replay and Rivers was awesome.  Wait hes a teenager too like Kozzie and LJ?  What is going on!!!!!  They are playing like 200 game stars

Let's hope all 3 plays 200 games for the Dee's

From Mick Ablett.

Trent Rivers, I’d like to mention, is one of the most elite kicks in the draft. He’ll be a half back for a little while, but I think he can also fit into the midfield at some stage.

DD36. We loved Trent Rivers selection in the 2019 draft.  I think Mick Ablett was spot on in his thoughts.

Definitely Trent has an excellent 2021, playing all 25 games and cemented his spot.  His intensity, run, courage and skills are a great asset.

Rivers along with all our recent additions are tough skilled footballers that are mature beyond their years and are well balanced pleasant individuals. No Toby Greene antics, their parents must be very proud of them as are we.!!💕❤️💙

Has all of the traits of an elite mid, finding heaps more of the ball this year too.

His short kicking is a worry but would be covered up as a centre bounce mid rather than as a flanker.

Reminds me of Yeo with a bit less polish

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
