Just like Gaff and Judd came back to Melbourne and Lukosius and Rankine back to SA. If we overlook players because they might leave us one day we might as well pack it in.

Judd did come back to Melbourne.

Haha yeah fair call but not to MFC which is what I meant (in the context of Jackson returning to west coast cos of NicNat/Suma - who I think has been at Freo for some time anyway so not sure why it would matter)

Not sure here nothing against the Lad hope is great but we have Preuss on a 4 year deal & need pace like Young & we pick another ruck?

Was Jackson slow?

No so pace for his size is almost unique and his awareness team play and ability all was super quick.

Oh and Kozzie Pickett isn't half speedy either.

X factor selections with highlight reels and I reckon both will have some games in 2020.

Well done JT and team.

Exciting year ahead with such promise

Hope we get Sharp or Robertson at 28.

The kind of face you don't want to see winding down a car window to ask where you're headed while walking home late at night

Why dwell on the possibility of him returning..?

We just recruited three players all from interstate in Langdon, Tomlinson and Bennell...

swings and round about's

If we're a good club playing good footy he'll stay for the glory and good time that come with success. If he leaves, there will be a couple of awesome Victorian boys keen to come home...

Welcome to the mighty Demons Luke Jackson!

May the force be with you. ;)

You do realise Langdon and Tomlinson are from Victoria? Langdon in particular played TAC footy with Gus and Trac.

Guess he was just returning like so many others.

Melbourne has a supporter base of intellectuals, please try and keep the standard.

Yes I did realise that. Hence the “swings and round-abouta” comment.

I like the selection as it has an edge to it. Not only Dees fans, but footy fans from across the spectrum will be looking to see haow this pans out in the next few years. The kids looks to offer a fair bit of versatility and may well turn out to be the prototype of way that the role of ruck will evolve in the next generation.

Be good fun watching his development.

Welcome aboard the Dee train LJ

Think his team mate Jeremy Sharp or Trent Rivers may be joining him in red and blue with our next pick

Sharp seems to have a bit of Bernie Vince about him, but a bit quicker and with a bigger tank. Am I ballpark at all with that comparison, mate?

Exciting highlight package. Welcome Luke.

Wanted to see Bennell in the vacant 24 jumper initially, but with LJ as initials and seeing Jackson out of the goal square the 24 would look good on him.

I am torn between the two PSD. Leaning towards Sharp to be honest.

Certainly not the draft I watched last night !

They don't play their footy on draft night 58er.  There was no point anyone else bidding on Green after we passed and apparently the Blues only did so (plus Henry straight after) to garner some time to organise their live swaps to trade down.

How many 199cm rucks are there? Wouldn't this guy be more likely to be playing forward with the occasional forward ruck contest or punch hitting? How tall was Hogan?

Goodwin on SEN this morning said that Jackson could be the first genuine midfielder at 200 cm.  Makes sense.

Those with memory know my opinion on taking ruckmen early...

He looks to have something more about him that maybe he can play a role on a flank or a wing if he has the lungs.

Otherwise, see you in 2025... maybe...

I think this is the point of picking Jackson 'rpfc'.

We haven't recruited him purely was a ruckman.

Both good players but I think Sharp fills our needs more.

Rivers would be the more versatile defender but for mine Sharp is an underrated ball user and decision maker.  Watched him play seniors after the Championships and he stood out as the best player on the ground. Kick was penetrating off half back and wasn't phased by the greater pressure in the seniors with his decision making.

And yes AF he's bigger than Vince and a good athlete at Aquinas College. He wouldn't be as hard at it as Bernie

Spoke to someone last night who believes he's unlikely to get to us with the Cats pretty keen. They have been into him all year. He also expects Brissy to take Robertson who he knows Cats have also been monitoring

Remember the outrage when we recruited a fat draft bolter at pick 4 and everyone cried and bitched and moaned about him, and then he turned out to be a superstar?

Ah, good times!

Just goes to show that, while it's natural to have reservations, it's downright stupid to get angry about it.  These kids need time and they deserve to be given time from the supporter base before we knock the decision to draft them.

Funny as I remember it the other way with most on here being pretty happy that we beat the drug cheats to the big bodied mid with lightning hands.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
