Demon Disciple 12,538 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 I know there is a lot of love on here for Salem (his first half of the year was good, but he fell away poorly). When is the heat going to start turning onto him? He's another who needs to have a big pre-season. Time to get fit Salo. 2 Quote

Agree. However Clarkson generally won’t play guys in the back half with his foot skills and decision making. Quote

Are you joking about Salem? Had a very consistent year. I definitely wouldn't say his form fell away poorly. The team lost 7 straight to end the season. I don't think we're in a position to start nitpicking at our best players. If so we may as well start discussing Clayton's incredible ability to win the ball but do little with his possession... 1 Quote

We should also be discussing a replacement for Hibberd and Salem taking the game on more and becoming more attacking. 2 Quote

picket fence 18,190 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 If Frost goes it will be yet another HUGE Blunder by our Football Dept...... BUT given previous History, why would anyone be surprised?? Just watch this one really bite us on the RRRRSEE! 1 Quote

trout 385 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 I would prefer to be keeping Frost but not going to lose sleep over him going. As soon as the club got linked to Keath about 3/4qtrs of the way through the season and Frost didn’t have a contract I thought he might be moved on at seasons end. I think if the club wanted to keep Frost that both parties could easily find middle ground to get it done. But I think it’s pretty clear the club don’t want him. Quote

It is MFC telling Frost he’s not wanted. In any workplace, once you are not wanted, you might as well go elsewhere. Disappointing. Quote
Its Time for Another 4,306 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Will be an interesting negotiation with Hawthorn. We want your pick 30. What for a player you think so little of you didn’t even make him an offer. We reply he started at the $650k you’re offering him and wouldn’t budge that’s what he’s worth. Etc etc Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) I read through the Top 10 B&F at all the clubs. Frost is probably the only top 10 player not being retained or offered a contract. It’s madness. Pace. Strength. Tackling. Spoils. Shutdown. Clearly had an excellent year. Played all 22 games. Fit. Key defender with abilities not easy to find. Sure he has a few clangers. So did quite a few others. He gets the footy. He needs coaching. We have 9 coaches. Surely one must be able to solve this small puzzle. That’s why Clarko will back himself. Frost and May would be an excellent backline pair. Lever to be the 3rd tall as he did at the Crows. That works. Lever struggles as a key defender. Surely Omcd is not the answer. Had a shocker of a year after so many gifted games. No pace. No strength. Safe 15 metre sideways passes. It cannot be footy. It must be $$$. We must be clearing room for Tomlinson and potentially Elliott. (Assume Lewis $$ goes to fit in Langdon). That’s the only thinking. To not even offer a contract but let him look elsewhere. As I have said, if your employer doesn’t want you, you have to look elsewhere. Lots of confused supporters. Lots of confused ex-player footy media experts. Its a bizarre decision that really only Goody knows the reason. Edited October 6, 2019 by spirit of norm smith Y 2 Quote

And yes he finished top 10 (just) in the B&F. But given he was one of a remarkably few players who played every game you'd be shocked if he didn't. In fact if he was as good as what so many are suggesting he should have finished top 5. But have people forgotten he couldn't get in to the team until half way though 2018? An on your point that really only Goody knows the reason they are open to trading him, leaving aside the fact that all in the FD would know, you are by and large correct. It is safe to assume Goody has other information informing the decision - for instance perhaps Frost is not following team rules or as Deanox suggests he is not suited to the zone defence or is too unpredictable to his teammates and so makes defensive systems hard to implement. I was dead against trading Watts. But i said at the time (and since) that i respected Goody's right to make the decision. The club never revealed the full reasoning for that decision but it was an accepted fact on DL that it was to do with cultural reasons and/or he didn't go in hard enough. Who knows if that is true. Which is sort of the point. Whatever the case just as with the Frost scenario they had their own rationale, reasoning and information informing the decision, which fans are not privy to. 1 red eye 1 blue eye 771 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 Have to agree Norm, showed genuine improvement this year and had me looking forward to another potential click up in trajectory. How can anyone say he's reached his peak? He improved, logically he can improve further. He made some genuinely strong and exciting plays. The only reason you would move him on is, as has been suggested he refuses to or just cannot adhere to the roll given? I dunno, I thought your game plan can and should evolve from the talent you have at your disposal. He has talent, harness it and create a team that isn't from some rigid idea! 1 Quote
Leoncelli_36 2,264 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 I was firmly against trading Frost, until I took the time last week to watch the replays of some of our games this year. For all his dash and speed, his possessions never actually amount to anything. He does not create play, he hinders it. He takes off and has no idea what he is going to do with the ball. There were so many moments when I was watching the replays that I could remember myself saying 'farrrrk Frosty, what are you doing'. These brain fade moments lead to opposition scores far far too often. I think a lot of supporters love him, because he has a go and gives his all, BUT he isn't playing smart football most of the time and costs us dearly at crucial times. If he goes, he goes. He is replaceable. 4 Quote

Players 'roll up' the ground. When Frost intercepts, he takes off and no player ahead of him has time to make it to position. His kicking is sheizen anyway. Quote

My understanding he was told to take the game on but give the ball off to the first option - ie don't try to be too fancy. In that regard he has mostly stuck to the plan. He has been used to take on the Buddy's or Danihers in the past but perhaps may is now that option and so the uses for Frosty are more limited. I read somewhere that Tomlinson is being touted as a winger but for mine Frosty could play that role quite well. Certainly better than Jones or Lewis like we did in 2019! Quote
Redleg 42,181 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 We now have at least $500k a year in the kitty, since Elliott passed on us. 1 Quote

Redleg 42,181 Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Just now, Wiseblood said: Will we look elsewhere for another small forward, or potentially put that into upping the offer for Frost? We have clearly made our decision on Frost. I think we will look at other small forwards or ball carriers like Murray. I still think we need another key forward if only for a couple of years while we improve Weid and find another to help him and Tom. I am starting to think about Jenkins who can play that second ruck role and is big and mobile and can kick straight. He might be ok for a year or two to help out. Of course if something better is available, forget him. 2 Quote
