AFL will use the “we didn’t get the medical report back in time” excuse again

It's really a disgrace how they bend over backwards not to suspend big name players. It's beyond time where the media should be calling them out on it.

"I've seen the (Hawkins) incident, what I will say is what I think in recent weeks in the AFL is moving away from suspensions.

"I agree with the AFL's approach, you want the best players out there playing so I'd hope there's consistency in that."

What I take from that is he’s happy for someone to clean him up come next weekend.

Seems that way doesn’t it.

Open the Floodgates....

Dangerfield is absolutely trying to influence the AFL.  UNBELIEVABLE ARROGANCE.

Hawkins deserves 2 weeks minimum.  Head high. Off the ball. Medium impact.

I am overseas at the moment and planned my trip around being home for the GF and watching the Dees win a flag - seriously what was I thinking??

Clearly, you're stark raving mad like all the rest of us.

Seriously, if you weren't, we'd think there was something wrong with you.

An aside

just turned on to watch the Storm who play in an hour and caught the last half of the NRL women's match.

Excellent quality. As a sport it it appears to be far more transferable quality wise between the genders.

1 week.  Doubtless will win no-risk appeal.  Staged.

In fairness to my mental state, my husband is a Pies supporter so there was no chance I can extend my holiday even if I want to. I have told him he can go home and I will linger in Italy a bit longer but he was not too impressed with that idea ???

EAD Hawkins. You might kick lots of goals but you’ve always been a staging and sniping piece of [censored].

Clearly I’m a fan.

That would explain a fair bit. What a double whammy. I have no such excuse, being the only football follower in my family. Locked in a prison of my own making. Which may be worse? Even contemplating that could drive me mad(der).

Hawkins should have been rubbed out for 4 to 6 with his record of brutality and shifty behind play incidents and i wouldn't have him at MFC either. This game was set up for Sooky and his team to win no matter what,  with the phone calls flying between the AFL and the cats saying things like.........how much off ball interference can we get away with, "Christo" and his (ex cat) mate, and then along comes dopey..

A pathetic umpiring performance wher the maggots had been instructed to not allow a Team to proceed further that had dared to make a laughing stock of the AFL.......no votes from me!!!!

Graded as intentional, high contact with a low impact

If it were a boxing match it would be a KO punch. Schofield was down for at least the full 10 count. Low impact is a joke.

I wonder if the lions got into the finals a year to early. So far they aren't really handling the start gws have got off to and when you see Hodgey kicking it out on the full it's not a great start.

I just wonder if the giants if they get through next week have the guts to apply the same tactics against the pies.

Dangerfield is happy for one of the ‘best’ players to clean him up.  So Lachie Neale is welcome to punch him in the face, without any recriminations.

Best quarter of footy I’ve watched all year. Had it all. Cameron is a dead set champ playing through the pain. I though he had busted his arm. Carn the bears!

toby is the ultimate villain. Love to hate him and wish we had him

Fabulous quarter... there's a few GWS players who don't like to work hard the other way too often.  Hard working teams who can maintain possession  reasonably well will find them out

No quarter given by either team....both playing socially unfriendly footy.

Robertson's little back slap on Whitfield right in the small of the back where he'd just taken a hit to put him down again.  Classic

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
